April showers and blue noses?

Thursday, May 05, 2011

April is in the books, the snow is FINALLY all gone and things are going good. Finally feeling a stride start to come along and feel good out to 10 miles.

I'm doing a half marathon with a few family members this month. I am really excited and grateful to be able to participate.

I feel very blessed and so very thankful for everything in my life right now. My faith keeps me going in this hectic life and hectic world.
The Lord is my salvation and grace he gives me.

Thanks for checking in on me!

Marching through March!

Thursday, March 17, 2011

The month is half ways gone, as is the snow in these parts. I have been running through it all in low gear (and sometimes 4 wheel drive) and enjoying it
-It has been a loooooong winter with lots of snow.

I am feeling healthier than I have been in awhile and have had some good luck with my back holding out. I have a few more pounds to take off, which will help as well.

With spring around the corner, I am looking at getting my group of PKD runners out on the roads and raising some funds for the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation.

Some are a bit scared or intimidating by the thought of running, but I'll make it fun and they'll look at it differently after the first run I believe.

Looking forward to getting the road bike back out on the road soon. Still too much snow in the woods for the mountain bike!

Doing a half marathon with my sister and step-brother in May. It will my bros' first ever run! He's lost over 40lbs already in training and is loving the running.
My sister is in awesome shape and just finished her first marathon a few months back and is putting me to shame with all the running events she enters!

Loving that the family is getting into with me, it's such an experience to run with family in an event. Looking forward to the season ahead, God willing.

Peace my friends.
Thanks for checking in on me.

I have only had the opportunity to run two races with family. The first year, it was me and my bro. The second year, there were five of us. It was so much fun! I love that you are running with your family too.

We have way too much snow here yet to think about bikes! But I hope you get yours out soon.

February made me shiver...

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

Lots and lots of snow here in Nova Scotia this winter. We have been getting hit at least weekly with a storm. Today, another 10-15cm is coming down. It's been bitter cold as well.

I was out for a run on Sunday for 7 miles. It was s bit slushy and slippery but it was nice. I live in the country so wildlife is abundant and makes for a pleasant run usually. I ran today again (Tuesday) for 6 miles. A nice rolling hill run through the country side along the ocean. There is a light snow falling and the view was just amazing with the blanket of snow over the ground and trees.
I felt so blessed to be able to be out there running and enjoying it like I was.

I have started training for a half marathon in May. I am going to run it with my sister, brother and sister-in-law. I am really excited for this one, it should be a great time. There is a lot of time to get ready so I am going to train smart, have fun with it and be ready and un-injured come May. (God willing)

I found out recently my back issues aren't going away. More not so welcoming news regarding my bad back that I won't get into. Owe well, what do yah do but go on. I have adapted my workouts and added much more stretching into my routine. As well, I have been eating more organic foods and more herbal remidies related to inflamation. The show must go on I say. If it was up to the Doctors I'd be eating pills and laying on the couch but I've been down that road and its not what works for me.

The winter hasn't been kind to my belly, as my back has kept me from being as active as I normally am in winter. I have some work to do! It's ok though, I have Spark People on my side and am confident my plan and efforts will pay off.

Stay tuned...

Thanks for stopping by!

The world is covered in snow eh.... wow, lots everywhere.
Andf yes, New England gets it before here but most of the same so you feel me there eh!?
Cass, good to hear from ya, thanks for stopping by, hope you are well.

I followed behind the snow plow on my run today. That plow driver has seen me out a few times in some crazy weather.
He just honks his horn and shakes his head at me like I am nuts. (sometimes I wonder myself)

Good times again today for 5 miles. Time for a hot chocolate and a hot tub to get the chill out.

Winter has been pretty rough here in New England too ! Basically, whatever storm you guys get usually has to pass over us first. Needless to say, most of my outdoor exercise has been in the form of shoveling !!! We're already had 71 inches of snow and winter isn't over yet !! ARGGHHH !!!

Good luck training for your half !!

I love my country runs too, and know just what you're talking about :) I'm sorry to hear of your back issues - its smart to give yourself lots of training time to get up to the HM distance for May. Running it with that much family will be a blast.

In the cold November rain...

Saturday, November 27, 2010

He trudges on with reckless abandon through the cold November rain. As his heart rate rises and he chases after something and runs towards an end that is never there. But he continues on anyways, developing inner strength and becomng ever-immune to the harshness of the environment that surrounds him. The worries he carries get left behind with every forward step. He must continue on for it is all he knows. There is only one way, and that is forward. Where this road will end, he does not know, all he knows is that he must follow it...

- Life is short, limits are over-rated, and pain is just weakness leaving the body.
