May - Spring has finally sprung

Monday, May 27, 2013

It has been a long cold old winter in these parts. The older I get the longer winter seems to be! :)
Running is starting to come along and I have registered for a marathon in October with my sister. I hope I can stay injury free while ramping up my milage. So far so good. 8 miler on Sunday felt good.
Start chasing your dreams today, as tomorrow may never come.
Life is short, limits are over-rated and pain is just weakness leaving the body!

It has been a long winter and spring has not been eager to make an appearance. Good luck with your training in preparation for October.

I know how you can't wait to start your dreams. I have to start very small, but tomorrow morning, I take my first walk in a week. Then, it will happen daily from there. Some people who have been very successful on Spark started out very small in their exercise, but with consistency, things started to happen. I', hoping to be one of them. Good luck to you also. February: 10K never hurt so good...

Saturday, February 09, 2013

This month started out cold like last month, but I was determined not to have any excuses when I evaluated myself at month's end. Sticky to my agenda, I ventured off for a 10K run in -29 temps.
I was confident in the winter running gear I have, and even put on an extra layer of shirts.
Still with the wind blowing the way it was, it was enough to get up under my outer layer.
When I was on the way back, I could feel my stomach and chest starting to sting. I stopped once and made sure I was all tucked in shirtswise underneath, and I was so I hurried for home.

Once I got back home and took of my clothes I could see my stomach and up to my chest was aweful red, kinda like a bad sunburn. I got in the hottub right away and got my temperature regulated.
It turns out, I have what they call Frostnip or Frostburn. Not quite as bad as it could have been, so lucky there I am.
The nurse I spoke with told me I'd have to watch that area now in the future because it will be extra sensitive. Other than that, I'll be ok.
There is a fine line between determination and stupidity and this instance I may have crossed that line.
Be determined, but be smart about it. You can move forward if you are injured.

Thanks for stopping by!

January 2013. It's cold EH!?

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

It's been very cold here in Nova Scotia, Canada this past month. Almost too cold to get out for some exercise....ALMOST. ;)
Poper attire when running or exercising outdoors is very important. Always dress in layers. It keeps you warmer, plus you can take things off if you start getting too warm.

I had an OK month. A few ups and downs but still moving in the right direction, FORWARD.
I have my weight room all re-organized and new running gear, new runners. At least I look the part eh>?
I was kinda just going through the motions this month, no real excitement or drive. I need some motivation, or some ideas to get me out of this rut.
Looking forward to February as my month to get cracking in multiple aspects of my life and things that need to get accomplished. I am looking forward to getting some weeks of running strung together.
Off to a good start that could be better. Stay tuned next month!
Thanks for checkin in on me. :)

Understand what you mean about "almost too cold to get outside". I don't have the stamina for the outside that you seemed to have developed, but I don't mind the snow shoveling - in moderation.

Thanks for the post.

Ending 2012

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

The end of a very testing year for me. Dealing with the loss of my best friend and then my daughter took a lot out of me and my soul. I have been re-building that fire inside of me, that passion for things I have lost. It's going to take time.
I spent about month and a half in the backwoods enjoying the camp and the wilderness. I talked with God a lot.
There are times in life where you need to go to that place and re-group, re-ground, re-energize your soul. This was one of them, and it sure did help.
I have come to realize that you just don't get over some things, you just get through them.

I feel that 2013 is going to be a good year. I am motivated and inspired by the people that love and support me. I want to make them proud and get back in the races and have fun.
For now, I am taking it one day at a time, one step at a time.

Thanks for checking in on me. I hope you all are having a wonderful holidays.

September to remember

Wednesday, October 03, 2012

Well, the month of September was interesting. I found out I have Diverticulitis after having multiple infections in my lymph nodes and intestinal tract. Good news is, I'll be ok as long as I stick to a certain diet.
I took 2 weeks off exercise to rest up and take the antibiotics. I had zero energy but got out on some runs and nature hikes. Perhaps I should have rested longer...

I didn't lose any weight over the past 4 weeks either. With being ill, I did not eat as much as I should have and not being active as I wished may have been the reason?..
October will be better. I am feeling so much better, my diet has been adjusted and I have my running shoes back on. Stay tuned for Octoberfest! ;)
