Weigh-In (Week 1) :: Time for a reset

emoticon Down 2 pounds.

Starting Weight: 229.8
Last Week's Weight: 229.8
Current Weight 227.8
Total Loss: 2.0 pounds.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Since I've officially set a weight loss goal for myself, and announced it to the whole world on my blog, I figured it was time to officially reset my mentality. First up, the new goal:

I want to lose 30 pounds by the end of 2012.

Doesn't sound like much, but with how much I've been struggling over the past two years, it will be a huge triumph to succeed. I desperately want to be under 200 pounds. That's been my goal from day one.

I'm feeling a little bit like an idiot for starting and stopping so many times. I just didn't feel like my last "go of it" was really with full commitment. I want to start fresh and really, REALLY go at this again. I'm so sick of worrying about my stupid weight. I want it to be over!

So here is my plan (for now, I reserve the right to change it at any time):

Track my food daily.
Eat between 1800-2000 high-quality calories a day.
Drink 4 liters of water daily.
Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies daily.
Limit added sugar to less than 30 grams per day.

Monday: 30 minutes interval cardio, lower body and core strength
Tuesday: 30 minutes interval cardio, upper body strength
Wednesday: Rest day
Thursday: Super, crazy intense cardio and strength interval workout (yet to be determined!)
Friday: Rest day
Saturday: 30 minutes interval cardio, lower body and core strength
Sunday: 30 minutes interval cardio, upper body strength

Write a weekly blog post on SparkPeople recounting all the emotional “goo” for the week.
Spend Sunday evening preparing for a healthy week by cooking food, planning workouts, etc.
Browse motivational stories and blogs one day a week.

And also, since I'm resetting, it's time to reset my milestones and rewards. Here they are:

M I L E S T O N E # 1
224.8 pounds
5 pounds lost
REWARD: Day of pampering

M I L E S T O N E # 2

Let's do this!

Well, dear Cassie, after I have read your whole Blog now, I also read your Anytime Health Column and as this was also completed, I have been looking forward to your weekly Sparkposts - where are they? :D I don't want to annoy you and hope that the only reason you didn't write the last weeks is, that you are having no emotional "goo" at the moment ;)

I stepped on the scale today and have to join the next chapter of weightloss too :) Reanimating my Spark-account was the first step into the right direction.

Looking forward hearing from you! Greetings from Germany!

I've missed you and am so glad to see you back here on SP! I like that you are restarting your goals in all areas. I found that by joining a challenge and setting my other goals via teams that I am more accountable.
You can do this, and yes, as Hannahscloudy says, turn it all around to a positive. I made a contract with myself that I've typed up and taped inside of the bathroom medicine cabinet. It sure helps on those days when I feel like things just aren't going my way.
But things are going your way - you are back here!

Good Morning! Food for thought, keep what you may like and throw the rest. emoticon

I'm feeling a little bit like an idiot for starting and stopping so many times. I just didn't feel like my last "go of it" was really with full commitment. I want to start fresh and really, REALLY go at this again. I'm so sick of worrying about my stupid weight. I want it to be over!

When I think or write similar thoughts, the Book says how would you support/encourage a friend with these thoughts.. (THIS HAS IMPACTED MY WHOLE DAY, life style change, and how I feel about myself.)

POSSIBLE EXAMPLE: (SELF TALK) - Sunshine, you have done so much for yourself. emoticon You are NOT an idiot, please let go feelings you have attached to what you see as little failures, don't worry about your weight! EVERYTHING, you have thought felt, experienced, has gotten you to this point in your life right now!! Your ready to go, ONE DAY AT A TIME! You go girl, YOU got this!
Accept who you are, with all your thoughts today. Your pretty cool!

Sorry, I'm practicing seeing negative thoughts and how to turn it around in my own head.

The rest of your plan - WOW you have laid it out so WELL!! In written word, and with goals and rewards laid out, AWESOME.

Have a great Day.

Week 6 Weigh-in :: 5/9 - 5/16

emoticonUp 0.2 pounds

Starting Weight: 234.8
Last Week's Weight: 228.4
Current Weight: 228.6
Total Loss: 6.2 pounds

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I was really pissed off when I first saw that I gained this week. Even though I had a terrible food weekend, I didn't expect it to make me gain.

But I'm pissed no more. I'm just going to change things. That teeny tiny gain has given me the drive to do some program adjusting:

emoticonI'm coming back to track at SP. emoticon
I've been tracking for a few months at My Fitness Pal because I love their iPhone app so much, but the truth is, it hasn't been working. I think it has something to do with their system of giving you extra calories when you work out. It just...isn't working for me. And SP is how I lost my first 40 pounds, so why should I try something else? Even if the iPhone app isn't great.

emoticonI'm changing my weigh-in day to Sundays. emoticon
Weigh-in day has always been Wednesday for me because it seemed like the best opportunity to give myself the biggest loss because I'm usually super dedicated at the beginning of the week. Well, what it's been doing is making me think I can go a little crazy on the weekends because weigh-in day is so far away. So Sundays it is. Plus it coincides with the Spark week and I like consistency.

emoticonI'm upping my workouts. emoticon
When I first started losing weight, walking was enough for me to lose 20-30 pounds. And I thought the second time around it would be the same deal, but I guess once you've gotten your body to a place where you can run a half marathon, walking just doesn't have the same effect. I need to step up my workouts. Three days a week I'm going to do a hardcore cardio and strength circuit, one day a week out strenuous hiking or on a long walk and another two days a week of light walking.

I have a plan. See you Sunday.

Bear in mind that 0.2 pounds is less than a quarter cup of water. I'm not sure I'd even call that a gain. Keep up the good work!

FETTERLESS 5/23/2012 12:56PM

Yes!! I have suspected this too. You're confirming my suspicions. I know it's a small sample size, but whatever: I'm not saying its the same for everyone, BUT..

..when I get to a certain fitness level, I am SURE I burn off less calories doing an activity than somebody who is less fit.

See, I was led to believe from various sources that the fitter you get, the harder you can work so the more calories you burn while exercising.

I don't think its true. I think the body gets more efficient. And that's got to be partly why plateaus happen and the last 7lbs are the worst.

I'm taking such a scientific approach to this these days. It makes my brain hurt. I've even been working out some of my percentages (carbs etc) even though I haven't been tracking (just calorie counting). Perhaps like you I should come back to the SP trackers for a bit. Hmmm...

Good luck with your plan alterations, it's fun changing things around! Have you considered interval training while walking, maybe jogging for a few seconds at a time? That might kick-start something if you don't see a loss for a while more.

I was using fitness pal and really loved it, but it also didn't seem to keep me focused enough as my first 70 lb weight loss with spark.

I decided to join weight watchers last month. I had some reservations about being part of such a "corporate" weight loss plan, but i needed some new way to organize myself.

Well, I am reeeeally happy with my decision. I love the app, I love the weekly perspective of the plan. I love that all fruits and veggies are unlimited.
In a month I lost ten pounds...The first five being bloatieness. I am back to the lowest weight I had achieved with spark. Ten pounds had crept on with all the
liberties I had been taking. I fit back into all my clothes. And I feel revived in my eating for weight loss. I feel like I have a vision for the goal i would like to achieve.

I trust that there is an ebb and flow to this process.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to share what I found helpful to turn myself around. You've always been an inspiration to me...thanks for all your amazing work.

Oh, and I find fridays to be my perfect weigh in Day.....keeps my momentum up all week, I enjoy a few indugencesmixed in with extra time for longer workouts/walls/hikes and then back on track.

Grrr. I'm annoyed. I did really, really well this week. I logged every single thing that went into my mouth (and only went over my calories on one day). I drank at least four liters of water everyday. I did at least 10 minutes of activity everyday. I expected something more than half a pound. What is it with me and these fractions of a pound? Is that just the stage my body is at? Is it going to be half pounds from here on out? Or is it the fact that I am mega crazy stressed out right now and regardless of the work I'm putting in, my body is holding onto weight because of that?

Oh well. At least I'm moving in the right direction. Bah.

DON'T beat yourself up! This is a half pound in the right direction! I know we are always saying it, but start believing that the scale is not the know-all in this relationship. I am avoiding the scale for this very reason. When you are confident that you are moving, eating and drinking what's right for you, then just keep taking each day as it is given to you. I am reading The Spark and am understanding more and more the benefits of positive thinking. Is there some way to unload that stress? Delegate anything? Why not try adding a new 5 minute video to kick that plateau in the butt? Keep us posted, 'cause I KNOW you are going to get over this hurdle and the weight WILL come off!

Well, I guess slow and steady wins the race, eh? Just as long as I'm still losing, I'm pretty happy. Especially because I know EXACTLY why I'm not losing more—lack of exercise. I try to walk everyday and get in one or two hard workouts a week, but other than that, nada. I'm not beating myself up about it either. Life is crazy right now (finals, yo!) and I'm doing what I can.

I'm also struggling a bit with drinking enough water. I used to be able to down 4-5 liters a day, but now I'm lucky if I get 1-2 in. Part of it is my EXTREME AND PERVASIVE laziness. I get through one liter and then I just can't be bothered to walk the 10 feet to the water fountain. Terrible, right?
