Merry Christmas Eve!

Saturday, December 24, 2011

Holidays suck in one way....all the goodies that are made and passed around. They are difficult to pass up however I see one allergy in my life as a blessing in disguise. I'm intolerant to wheat. That takes out at least 75% of the foods and almost all the desserts at a potluck that I might be able to eat. The only problem with that is....if I choose to eat from the "buffet" and the maker of the dish can't remember if they put any flour in it, I get to either chance it or pass it. If I chance it, I may end up sick the next day so most times I choose to pass.

There is one exception. If my co-worker makes something that is okay for me to eat, I'll gladly eat it. Today my lovely co worker brought in stuff for pulled chicken tacos. Her pulled chicken taco meat is absolutely yummy and totally wheat/gluten free! I can make a bowl of pulled chicken with all the toppings I want like cheese, sour cream, onions, salsa, guacamole, cilantro, etc and actually eat it. That's kinda nice. :) Gotta stay away from the dessert table though....waaaaaay too much wheat there.

In other news, I'm so freakin tired from all the running around and baking for Christmas! I'm ready for it to be over but my 6 year old obviously doesn't want the same. LOL. Tomorrow morning I'll get up, watch my son open his presents, bake some red velvet cupcakes for a friend (maybe) and then get ready to go to work. Yes...I have to work on Christmas Day. After that though, I have THREE lovely luxurious days off to sleep! Good thing too, I need it.

Oh....and my coworkers LOVED the cookies I made them. They said they looked so pretty they didn't want to eat them. LOL.....they are all gone anyway.

JAMBABY0, Merry Christmas to you too!

MORTICIAADDAMS, yes its unfortunate that our commercialized society sees wheat and enriched flour as healthy and therefore it gets put into everything. Or is that the big time manufacturers of processed foods brainwashing people? Merry Christmas and may you have a healthy wheat free holiday!

I have problems with wheat as well and we live in a wheat world. Eating clean is the way to go.

South Beach Diet Phase 1, Day 10

Sunday, December 18, 2011

I'm retaining water today evidenced by the fact that the scale was up 3 lbs and I've been to the bathroom nonstop today, lol. Otherwise phase 1 is going great. Tomorrow, however, is our annual "Cookie Fest". My sister and I get together every year and bake tons of cookies and other goodies for our coworkers. The list this year is gigantic - vanilla sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, cake pops, white chocolate cranberry oatmeal cookies, monster cookies, coconut macaroons, chocolate fudge, peanut butter fudge, peppermint bark, key lime bark and then....just to help keep me away from all of that while still having a treat for myself I'm going to make Paleo Banana bread and Paleo Pumpkin bread. Sounds like a diabetic's nightmare right? I'll keep reminding myself of this while I'm baking. I'm not diabetic but it does run in my family.

I don't know that I'll have any energy to eat any of it by the time we are done and that's probably a good thing but I have planned a cheat day for this. It's straight back to Phase 1 after tomorrow for me. I'll be on Phase 1 for at least a month due to the amount of weight I need to lose but even after that, I've done SBD before and I know that my body will only tolerate a slight increase in foods....mostly berries, sweet potatoes, small amounts of brown rice, small amounts of oatmeal, SF jello pudding, etc. So the majority of my days, I think, will remain phase 1.

A few weeks ago, I was diagnosed with asthma by my allergy and immunology dr....along with many allergies. Mostly the asthma doesn't bother me except when I get sick. I've had a cough since the last time I was sick and the inhaler that was prescribed to me has all but gotten rid of it. I'm hoping that I'll be able to add in exercise soon. I'm also supposed to start allergy shots here shortly. Hopefully that will be VERY soon. I'm ready to not have so many sinus infections.

All in all, I feel much healthier on the South Beach Diet then when I am not on it. I hope I remember this exact statement when I hit a plateau!

Your treats sound wonderful and it's nice you can make them with your sister.

South Beach is great - a really healthy diet.

Ha ha! Yes, broken cookies do have calories! Good thing most of the cookies I can't eat because they have wheat in them. :)

Be careful tomorrow, just keep saying: gifts for coworkers, gifts for coworkers, etc.

Oh yeah - and broken cookies do too have calories - no matter what my grandmother said!

Have fun lady - what a great tradition!

South Beach Diet Phase 1, Day 4

Sunday, December 11, 2011

So far so good! I'm eating what I should be eating, not eating what I shouldn't be eating. I had a migraine on Friday though I think it was from allergies...not SBD. My mom is doing this with me so I do have a buddy, lol.

Woo Hoo! It's official! I'm walking in the March for Babies walk this year!

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

My son Gabriel was born at 32 weeks, two months early so he definitely benefited from all the work that the March of Dimes does to help premature babies. Here's my link if you want to check it out:

Bloodwork Results

Monday, January 26, 2009

I had bloodwork done on Friday the 23rd and got those results back today and its not pretty at all. I'm putting my results here so that I can compare in a few months when I get more bloodwork done.

Cholesterol - 248
Bad Cholesterol - 152
Triglycerides - 222
Blood Sugar - 95
Iron - 12.4

My cholesterol is so high that my dr wants to put me on drugs to lower it. Dr's office already called it into the pharmacy. I'm 30 years old with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight and it's from eating all the WRONG foods for my body my entire life! The only good that came out of that appointment is that I'm not diabetic on top of it all. I believe that cutting out foods that my body is intolerant to will help with all of the above as well as getting as much exercise in as I can. I'm on the low side of normal on my iron and again my dr wants me to work on that too. I've been working on it for the past year! I'll be making more of an effort to log all my food so that I know where I need to adjust my food intake. *sigh* Hopefully all this will be somewhat better in 2.5 months before I get more bloodwork done.

hey sweetie long time no chat. Don't feel about the blood pressure, it happens to the best of us. Mine is high now too and I'm on meds to regulate it. They're not too bad altho they do cause a reoccuring cough that is only moderately annoying. I asked my doctor if I would need to be on these for the rest of my life and she said not if I lost 100 lbs. Nice lady....not. Well hey at least she was being honest. Have you been on the cholesterol meds since January? Are they working? What are your numbers now? I hope things are looking up for you!

You've gotta start somewhere. This will give you a baseline so that you'll know how much you've improved by your next check-up.

Just stick with the program and you're body will reflect the good changes you're making.

Just think about all the money you will save when you lose the weight and get off of the medicine! Can't wait to see your progress!
