Stepping UP to the Plate

Thursday, June 03, 2010

One day at a time. I am all too completely aware of my shortcomings. I could rattle off a dozen in 30 seconds. Rattling off a dozen things I like about myself is more of a challenge --- but here is something that I have just caught on to ---- it is completely within my power to be who I want to be.

Here is a quote from one of my students who just graduated on why she loves me:
" I love you for many reasons - your ability to love and laugh, your kindness, and your many jokes to name a few."

I am taking those words to heart. If a 22 year old and find some wonderful qualities in me, then it should be much easier to do it myself. :)

It's true, we are our harshest critics. Take a cue from your student and celebrate the best of you!

why is it that everyone around us see the good in us and we can't see it if we look in the mirror. It is wonderful that someone had the courage to tell you how wonderful you are. What a beautiful gift.

FRIDAYS!

Friday, May 28, 2010

I love Fridays! Today is a great day! I've had some very positive interactions with co-workers, including hearing that someone I don't really like is leaving! WOO HOO! Some of my old staff may come back to visit this wknd. Have a couple of days off, then work a bit, and have another couple of days off. SWEETNESS!

Making lifestyle changes. They are not perfect, but they are coming along perfectly well. I had a little chocolate this morning and it actually gave me a headache. Surprising. My body has adapted to none. HA! Joke's on me.

I am happy and enjoying life. Wishing you all a beautiful day!

Throwdown

Thursday, May 27, 2010

I'm currently on a program where sugar is very limited. It's not that I could not have something, but if I ate "x", then I would prob blow my day's sugar allotment with just a nibble.
Yesterday was that day when I was working later than normal, and I wanted that piece of "x".
X called to me. X was singing a song to me in my head. Why don't brussel sprouts serenade you? There must be a reason for that.

I was able to beat that craving down. How did I do it? I don't really know. In that moment, though, I was stronger than "x." Yippee! I felt rewarded that I avoided it when I was one more pound down this morning. (2 days ago I was up a half pound).

Two more LONG days ahead of me: today and tomorrow. I woke up at 4am. Hubby's temporary hours are really screwing with my sleeping schedule. I think I will leave around 8 tonight and the same or longer tomorrow. I threw some extra chicken in my lunch bag today. It will help me to beat down the next craving. I'll be ready for the next throwdown. ;)

Building Patience...one traffic jam at a time

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Sat in an hour's worth of traffic today, on top of my normal commute, thanks to a disabled truck. It was good for me. I have been rushing around like a zombie lately. Not having time to stop and smell the roses. It's going to be a scorcher later, but now, it was a beautiful sunny morning. It was a crawl for 10 miles that usually takes 20 mins, but took 60. On the next leg, I came acorss a cop car pulled to the side of the road. Not sure what he was inspecting, stickers, seat belts, or cell phones, maybe all of the above. He did not look too much in the mood for smiling though, even though I did.

My commute was not without eruption. I have a short temper and a Jersey attitude. You know what I am talking about. I was in the last 10 mins, when I blew a fuse, but reined it back in pretty quickly. Still, it was a slow start of an otherwise successful morning.

Did my morning routine, and still had time to make/eat breakfast and complete some jewelry.
I need to put a little fire under my butt to get rolling today. I have a long to do list on my desk, and a looming deadline. So much for smelling the roses. Maybe on my way in tomorrow. :)

Hubby tells me I have a short fuse. Bless his heart....he doesn't get excited...he just smiles and waits!

I had one of those short fuse days today also. My poor crew wasn't sure who I was. I found myself a quiet spot and took 5 minutes to breathe and regroup. Tomorrow will be a better day! emoticon emoticon

Summer heat will bring on short fuses, but if you are not in control of the situation, then control your reaction to it. Congratulations on taking time to smell the roses (or gas fumes) where ever you are.

Not having patience is my biggest downfall also - whether it's about becoming healthier, slow drivers, slow shoppers, slow anything. God grant me patience - and I want it right now!
