Vacation planning...what a difference a year makes

Thursday, July 26, 2012

I'm planning a trip to Chicago with my family. We love big cities and will be staying downtown.

What a difference a year makes. Over a year ago I would be planning what restaurants to hit. Now I'm planning how to get my exercise in.

emoticon - We could rent bikes and ride along the lake shore. Bike tour sounds fun.

emoticon - We are walking everywhere (except nighttime)

I love Chicago! Hope you have fun and way to go with such a great victory! We are planning a trip through the midwest in a month and I have also found myself focusing on the "how do I get in my exercise" question over all the other planning questions. Still feels strange! :)

Wow, what a NSV to realize how far your thinking has come!

I love big cities too (we live in a rural area), and find the WALKING really helps keep the weight gain minimal.

Have a super-blast!

Mutual Friend Lookup

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

I'm always searching for this page since it's tough to find, so I thought I would blog about it.

Every wonder who hasn't added you as a friend?
Every wonder who has added you as a friend but you haven't?

To find out everyone who has added you as a friend, everyone you've added as a friend, and all of your mutual friends:

1. Select 'Friend Feed' from the 'Community' option in the Toolbar.
2. In the first paragraph on the Friend Feed page, find 'Click Here' and click it.

There are a couple of Butterfly team members (GEMINISUE & TRAVELGRRL) that haven't added me.

Thank-you for the information. Someone added me as a friend in the fall of last year. I've been trying to figure out who but I think they may no longer be a member of SP. The info is great to know. Thanx again & please do have a pleasant day. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks -- I always lose this page too. It makes me sad to see how many people have "gone by the wayside. I'm not at goal, but as long as I'm on Spark I haven't given up, either!!

My reasons for losing weight

Sunday, June 17, 2012

It’s been a year since I started my spark journey. Most of my reasons for starting the journey are no longer the reasons for continuing it. I have achieved most of my initial goals and I'm damn proud of it!

So as of today, my reasons for losing weight and improving my fitness level are:

So thank you spark friends for your inspiration, motivation and support.

OMG...Ran for the first time in my life!

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

After one hour of walking I had the need for some speed. So I thought I would try and run for a few minutes. I ran for 4 minutes followed by more walking. When I reached my home I decided to run some more. I ran around the block for another 5 minutes.

I was so excited. I told my husband that I ran for the first time in my life. His reply (with concerned look): "Did you have to?" I said NO, I WANTED TO!!!

Even if it was for a few minutes, it felt great.

. . . and that's the way runners get started. One fine day, when out walking, I felt like running for a little bit. About a week after that, I decided to see if I could turn myself into a runner.

12 steps to living longer and stronger

Sunday, June 03, 2012

I picked up a copy of July's Prevention magazine and found an article about 12 steps to living longer and stronger.

Here are Dr. Sanjay Gupta's 12 steps:

emoticon 1. Don’t think of exercise as optional
emoticon 2. Pump your heart to better your brain
emoticon 3. Move it or Lose it
emoticon 4. Get your kids in the act
emoticon 5. Stop eating before you’re full
emoticon 6. Fall out love with sugar
emoticon 7. Grow a garden
emoticon 8. Eat a rainbow diet
emoticon 9. Don’t skimp on sleep
emoticon 10. Stop medication, start meditating
emoticon 11. Schedule “YOU” time
emoticon 12. Grow younger – yes, you can!

I've been growing younger this past year. Yes, we can!
