Weight gain....really!

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

I've been doing great this past week by staying within my calorie range and exercising. In fact, I've been putting in 2 hour workouts daily just so I can have a slice of apple pie tomorrow. So I got on the scales this morning and I'm up 1.5 pounds. The only reason I can think of for the weight gain is muscle gain. I starting lifting weights (circuit training) last week and I've been really sore these past few days. I just hope it's my body adjusting....

This is not going to derail me!!! This may give me motivation to make even better choices for Thanksgiving day.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Atta Girl! Ignore it. I got all upset over a nonsensical 2-lb gain, and as fast as it came, it left. Sometimes the scale is just plain dumb! Happy Thanksgiving!

Don't let it get you down. Working out can change the way your body processes fluids, too. Make sure you're getting enough water. I'll be you'll see fantastic results next week.

I'm telling you that is exactly what it is. Sucks right. I hate that but if you remind yourself that when your muscles grow they hold onto water it makes it easier to take. I gained a pound this week too and I know it's not from eating too much....def water/muscle weight. Great thing is by end of next week you'll suddenly drop some :) Keep at it!

Half way point

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Today I hit my half way point to my goal weight (15.6 lbs lost)! I’m so excited that I’m feeling the results of my hard work, dedication and commitment to myself and a lifestyle change.

In the past this is the time I would start losing my motivation to complete the other half of my journey, but I’m committed to reaching my goal. What is different this time? It is this wonderful community.

Thank you to all my spark friends, you inspire and motivate me!!!!!

Not the biggest loser…but the biggest sweater

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

If there was a biggest sweating competition, I would make the finals. Actually, I would probably win!

Sometimes I wonder if something is wrong with me. I pour buckets from the moment I lace up my speakers.

I sweat so much at any physical exertion that:

• I’m permanently attached to a towel
• My skin is attached to my coat after I walk around the block with my dog
• My hair is completely soaked after a workout at the gym
• My shirt is half soaked after a workout at the gym
• I’m the only one in yoga class that brings in a towel
• Sweat just drips off my face when I’m in a downward facing dog (I would rather pass gas in yoga than drip buckets)

I’m so sick of seeing women in the gym with perfect hair during their workout. I just don’t understand. When I walk out of the gym, I look like I just got out of a swimming pool.

When I get home from the gym, I hear:
• Euuuuuuu
• Don’t sit on the coach!
• You are taking a shower, right?

I know it’s the price I pay for fitness, but I would like to look ‘cooler’ doing it.

My wellbutrin causes me to sweat a lot as well.

emoticon I'm exactly the same way. I always tell myself that those women with perfect hair and make-up at the gym can't be working very hard.

Think of it this way...when you're totally toned and healthy at goal, at least you'll make that sweat look sexy!

Go, girl, go!

haha i totally hear ya! i always wonder about those girls i see at the gym that wear full makeup - FOUNDATION even - how the hell it stays on and doesnt streak melting down their face is beyond me!!! i have a session with my trainer today and i'm already fearing those 'drops of sweat' rolling off my neck plopping onto the mat when he makes me do pushups... i'm sooo embarrassed! i hope he at least takes it as a 'compliment' that he's doing a good job pushing me hard!

Waist to Hip Ratio - Estimator for Health Risk

Saturday, October 29, 2011

My doctor for the longest time has told me that my waist-to-hip ratio (WTH) is a good estimator for my health. Where you store your body fat is a predictor of health risk. So I checked to see if spark people had any information on this and quess what? Of course there's info (and a calculator).

Waist-to-Hip Info:

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_articles.asp?id=776

Waist-to-Hip Calculator:

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calcula
tor_waist.asp

I remeasured myself today and lost 7 inches total and improved my WTH score a little. I'm still an apple shape which means I'm at high risk. Time to kick it up a notch. I want to be an avocado by the end of the year.

What shape are you?

I'm finding the measuring to be making a difference for me this time around. Usually, I only let the scale determine how I feel, but this time I'm looking at other factors and it's giving me perspective.

Switched gyms...change is good

Friday, October 28, 2011

I’ve been a long time YMCA member that switched this summer to Planet Fitness. The YMCA has Precore equipment. I was normally doing 1 hour workouts on the elliptical cross trainer.

Well two months ago, I said adios to Precore and hola to Life Fitness equipment. You see the budget is darn tight. Daughter #1 is in college and daughter #2 is around the corner. Not only am I working on getting myself fit (Fit by 50!), I’m working on getting my family’s budget fit. PF saves me some money.

I had so much anxiety over the switch. It’s scary switching equipment when you have back issues. Even a slight workout change can impact my lower back.

The first day at PF, I tried their Life Fitness elliptical cross trainer. Shut the front door! I could barely make 10 minutes. I look like an insane person that day cussing at the equipment and continuously hitting the level button that didn’t budge from level 1. I was using the cardio setting and inputted my correct age and weight, yet I could only do 10 minutes. Later that week, I felt better after my husband told me he could only do 15 minutes. Sigh… I wanted my Precore back.

I had no choice but to switch it up. Since I could only do 10 minutes, I started walking the treadmill. As days went on, I continued my battle with that elliptical.

After two months at PF, I’m happy to say that I won the fight. I finally hit my 1 hour mark. The even better news is that I no longer get numbness in my feet when using the cross trainer. I always had some level of foot numbness using Precore.

Change is good.

Wow, I didn't know that there could be so much difference between brands of the same type of machine! Newby that I am.

It's great that you're getting more through your workouts, and also super important that your feet like the new equipment better. emoticon
