New Challenge starting soon...Camp Wannabefit

Saturday, March 15, 2014

emoticon Hi friends. I want to let you know about a project a few of us have been working on for a couple months. We have selfishly combined what we think are the best parts of a few challenges we've participated in here on Spark. (So, thank you to all those great teams for the ideas.)

The team is almost full (a few spots remain). I'm just going to post the "Welcome" post here. It does a good job of describing the challenge. If it sounds like something you'd like to be part of, Sparkmail FITAT50 or PKCTTS if you're interested in joining.

emoticon

We are a group of Sparkers that decided we want to move beyond weekly weigh ins and weekly challenges built by someone else. We know that pounds are not the only way to measure success. We need the flexibility of taking Tuesday off from exercise some weeks and don’t want to feel guilty about it. We know what works for us, what our time constraints are and what we enjoy doing.

We enjoy hanging out with an active team; we need the support and the fun. We are also just a bit competitive and appreciate the fact that having a team depending on us can push us to work just a little bit harder.

With those things in mind, we put together this team. Camp Wannabefit consists of several challenges in the form of camp activities. There are a variety of exercise activities for you to choose from that range from beginner to seasoned athlete in difficulty. You have several nutrition options as well. Then we threw in some of what we call Life Style activities so that you can work on everything from organizational skills, to getting that stack of books read, to doing some writing and self-reflection.

You will have the ability to build your own challenge each week or build your perfect week once and then just get it done. The activities are lead by folks with experience in their subjects. So, if, for instance you want to become a runner – we have a great camp counselor all lined up for you with a plan for meeting your running goals. Want to get your Ooommm on - we have yoga covered too. Cycling, Strength Training . . . yep, we have them.

Traveling this week? Cut back on your camp commitments . Need to get ready for an event? Hit it hard. Have a race this week - you won’t lose points for needing to load up on those carbs. In maintenance? Take a simple Healthy Habits challenge and then join the book club or work on some other life challenge.

Each activity has a point value – that’s where the challenge comes in. You will be part of a team that is counting on you to rack up those points each week. Bragging rights are a wonderful thing!!

Space is limited, but we are an ongoing challenge, so as folks move on to other things, we will fill their space with folks from our wait list. Sparkmail FITAT50 or PKCTTS if you're interested in joining.

The challenge will officially begin on Sunday, April 13th, but we will invite you to camp ahead of that date so that you can get settled in. Hope to see you there."

You know you had a good yoga class when.......

Saturday, March 08, 2014

You know you had a good yoga class when after class…..

1) You can not comprehend anything
2) You grab the wrong coat
3) You do not remember the car ride home
4) You love your body and no longer care about the #$%@ number that displayed on the scale
5) You walk into the house with a big smile

Not only does yoga calm your mind, it calms your hair. emoticon

First in the series of stick figures brought to you by unknown Michigan artist, Lori. More to come…

emoticon Namaste emoticon

Ain't nothing gonna to break my stride

Sunday, February 23, 2014

One of my favorite actors, Will Smith, appeared on the first episode of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Will Smith discussed growing older with Jimmy. What he said resonated with me, so I transcribed this:

Will Smith (age 45) ~ “With the state of modern medicine, we are probably going to hit ninety. Ninety is like a real thing now, so this is like halftime. When you come out for the third-quarter in any sporting event, this third-quarter is an important quarter. That’s not the time when you start relaxing and you start chillin. You got to go get it in the third quarter.”

I’m past halftime. I’m not slowing down and I’m definitely not going to chill.

I may not go skydiving like Will Smith did this year, but I have some other ideas. I plan to take my yoga practice and strength training to the next level. I would like to hike in the mountains someday. I would like to experience kayaking. Hmmmm….full marathon (still a crazy thought).

Have you reached your halftime? How is the third-quarter? Are you slowing down?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu7i0fnmW64

Song lyrics from Mathew Wilder
"Ain't nothing gonna break my stride
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Oh no, I've got to keep on moving
Ain't nothing gonna break my stride
I'm running and I won't touch ground
Oh no, I've got to keep on moving"

    Love this!

I did slow down, I confess, when I hit my late 20's--that's when I messed up my hip and it was a major set back on a previously active lifestyle. But I'm not ready to start winding down now--I'm just getting my second wind back!

Since both my great-grandmothers lived to around 100 and my grandmother is a fairly healthy 99, at 59 I probably have quite a bit of living yet to do. And, I plan to be as strong and healthy as I can be in order to enjoy every minute of it.

BTW - I have mountains and a kayak, come visit. LOL

Hit Goal Weight…62 lbs gone forever!!! (w/pics)

Wednesday, November 06, 2013

I thought this day would never come…but here it is! This has been a 2.5 year Spark journey and I’ve finally reached my ultimate goal weight. Weight loss doesn’t happen overnight, that’s for sure. I’ve learned along the way to be patient and to forgive myself. I’ve learned to jump back on the Spark wagon when I fall off. I’ve learned that we are all in this together and we can learn from each other. I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I thought. I’ve learned I can do anything if I put my mind to it.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here it is:

I don’t recognize that ‘before’ person anymore. Everything has changed for me. I’m healthy, confident, happy and empowered. I also feel younger.

My fat belt is the only piece of clothing that I kept. There is no going back for me.

If you just started your Spark journey or have been on it for a long time, just remember this:

IF I CAN MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN….SO CAN YOU!

And….thank you my Spark peeps for your ongoing support, motivation, and inspiration. emoticon

I had Halloween candy (or candy of any kind) for the first time in three years.

Why?

Because I was actually trying to gain weight.

It worked.

I'm now at the planned for higher goal/maintenance weight, I actually aimed at.

It might be a few more years before I have it again. emoticon
