A great day....

Sunday, September 15, 2013

If you want to get and stay healthy for the rest of your life it really is a daily choice that you have to make each morning when you get up....or any moment in the day there after if you start off on the wrong foot. Don't every write a whole day off because you messed up in a few moments prior.

Yesterday I had a really amazing and blessed day. My BFF and I attended an event in the Dallas area called Shauntervention, which was an all day opportunity to be in the room with Shaun T - workout, train, motivation speech, photos etc. He is one of my fitness heroes and it was awesome to do this event.

I've done parts or all of his Insanity Asylum, Hip Hop Abs and T25 workouts. Working out with him leading in the room was intense for 50 minutes. I think my sweat was sweating. The form section where he reviewed each exercise that is typical in some of his DVDs step by step was really informational and I learned how to do some of the moves better.

His motivational speech was awe inspiring to hear. I had no idea some of the things he has overcome in order to get to where he is today. He also gave us a journal to use daily for the next 52 weeks which I will be starting tomorrow.

I came home and got a couple of my accountability partners who are doing T25 to agree to hold me accountable starting tomorrow to get through the week with the week one phase of Beta. If anyone reading this does this workout and would like some accountability partners, look me up on face book - Michelene Cleary. Send me a message if you'd like to workout together.

This morning I did what he suggested, which was to review your five reasons to thrive before you got out of bed in the morning. I got up and made a very healthy breakfast for me and my mom.

Today is my rest day and one of the things that I'm going to do to increase my happiness quota for the day is take mom (after church) to see my youngest daughter. She moved into her dorm a few weeks ago and isn't coming home this weekend so we're taking the party to her. We're going to take her and her roommate to a place called the Mellow Mushroom for lunch. We had to go all the way to Florida for vacation this summer to find this pizza chain and there is a place in her college town. Love their mushroom pizza with truffle oil.

Later today will be some foam roller and yoga/stretching to get ready for Beta starting tomorrow.

So what are you doing to plan for a successful week? Got any ideas for the rest of us?

4 years on SparkPeople....

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

emoticon I just passed my 4 year anniversary on SparkPeople. Woo Hoo!

I guess if I wanted to pass on some type of inspiration at this milestone I would say allow yourself to be human on journey. Allow your journey to be unique.

I certainly haven't been perfect over the last 5 years of my journey (4 on spark and one before). I'm not at my ideal weight or shape in my mind. Some people want to give up after 4 weeks or 4 months, but you need to realize that it's a lifetime, lifestyle that you are going for. So while this 4 year anniversary is a blessing, it's just a drop in the bucket of what I'm going for.

You need to develop an attitude that will not allow failures on any day to stop you in your tracks. I've gone up and down from 95 lbs lost to maintaining at least a 75 lbs loss. At 95 lbs I was losing muscle and had a higher percent body fat. At 75 lbs lost I just got the best rating I could get on a life insurance policy due to my lab results and stats. So what is in a number? Quit letting the scale dictate your success. Get healthy.

This just needs to be your daily schedule. Eat right, workout, be awesome, repeat. In order to do that you have to have healthy food in the house, a plan, and some will power.

emoticon You have to have accountability partners. I have many of them and without them there would have been many days where I just skipped my workout.

No one can make you do it - you have to want it and do it and get over your excuses. Unless of course you want to stay over weight and out of shape. I'm currently working on getting past my obstacles of the last couple of months.

Life is never perfect. Family, friends, job, children, environment will never be perfect. Quit expecting perfect or saying when this or that changes then I can focus on me. If that is your expectation then you will never get around to it.

Just finishing up with the thought that you are worth it so don't give up. Don't try and be exactly like anyone else on their journey. Do what is right for you.

I did try something in August that was on my bucket list - wouldn't have been able to do it 5 years ago. I went paddle boarding with friends and family. This was an exciting day for me and I plan on going again. Set some goals and try new things.

I love my fitness life now. I've completely changed my eating habits. Those things took time for me and for my family. Don't give up - you can do this one day at a time.

So I'm still here...plugging along one day at a time. Good luck to you on your journey.

Terrific blog and so honest and true. It took me 5 years to make up my mind I was serious and finally did those last steps to goal. A nice feeling.
Nice still, like you, I'll keep it off and have had fun and learned along the way. You are truly inspiring.

    Way to go!

Great message. It really is a LIFETIME change...it's not like we do it and then log off spark forever because "we've done it". It's always going to be a challenge and we're never going to get it "perfect."

Love that you went paddleboarding...I went whitewater rafting for the first time last month, and I'm 59 and DH is 66! Life is happening for us RIGHT NOW, not when we hit our "perfect" size and weight.

Keep on Sparking!!!

2,262 mile Virtual Journey finished

Sunday, August 18, 2013

Three years ago this month I started a virtual journey on one of my spark teams. The goal was to start from wherever you lived and journey by tracking your mileage to Forks, Washington. That was the place that started the Twilight Saga in the original book Twilight. In order for me to get there, I had to track 2,262 miles. This month I finished that journey.

Here are a few pictures from along my journey:

During the journey I trained for and completed my first and only half marathon. I did the Dallas Rock N Roll.

I did a mud run and a foam run.

I've run with tattoos, tutus, and finished in color from the color run.

I've lost count of how many 5ks I've done with my BFF and daughter in tow - we really loved the glow in the dark electric run.

Ha - not a big fan of running with head gear!

I love my Twilight Sisterhood and the support I've had from many of the women on the team. We've watched our kids grow up and seen our lives change over the last three years.

It's brought me great joy to know that I have impacted my children's lives by eating healthier and working out. My youngest daughter completed the Hell Run and has inspired me to try more difficult races.

This blog would be too long if I posted pics of everything. I think what I'd like to convey about the journey was that through the process of tracking mileage through walking, jogging, running races, swimming, zumba, biking, etc., etc., is that I learned how to make being active a consistent and routine part of my life. It's helped me keep off 80 lbs that I lost along the way.

I gained enough confidence to get certified as a personal trainer and a Fit 2 Fight boot camp instructor. I enjoy teaching a small group of women on a weekly basis now for more than a year.

Just a few pics to end the parade - life gets messy so roll with it and workout. Our foam fest medal, my medal from my one and only 5 mile race, and then joy of joys - a picture of me with my youngest and oldest daughter! Finally got my other daughter to do her first race with us!

I just celebrated my 51st birthday this month and I tried paddle boarding as my birthday party outing with daughters and friends in tow. At the end of the month I'll celebrate my 4th year here on SP. All of this rolls into a deep satisfaction that I didn't let excuses from life, health, age, and circumstances keep me from being active and achieving healthy lifestyle goals.

I'll always end these kind of blogs by saying if I can do this then so can you. If you need encouragement let me know. I'm happy to try and help those who want to help themselves and need some support.

This week I'm on vacation in Destin and I've logged my first six miles of walking on the beach to start my second virtual journey. Have you ever tried anything like that to help you stay on track? Why not start one today?

Many thanks go out to all the people who have encouraged and supported me along the way! In the end no matter who supports you, the workout will not get done unless you get up and do it. Set a goal and go for it! The reward is so worth it.

One of my most faithful workout buddies over the last year.

Race for July - Splash Dash - this was the first race where both of my daughter's did the race with me. My oldest daughter doesn't usually like these things but I think she enjoyed it enough to want to do another race with us.

We're working out more - we're going to Destin, FL in August and we're all working to get in better beach shape. I say this is a good thing but then I did whine slightly when my youngest daughter drug me out of bed this morning to go running!

I did enjoy the run this morning and was totally happy that we got a workout in.

I feel like I'm doing better right now on eating and working out that I did in May. I'm coming up on Four Years! on sparkpeople so just know through experience that there are ups and downs and you just have to keep going no matter what happens in life.

Short Note

Monday, June 10, 2013

I haven't blogged in a while but I just had to post a short note about some good health related news I got lately.

My business partner and I submitted health information and lab work a couple of weeks ago because we are going to purchase key man life insurance policies on each other. I was notified that due to my excellent health I qualified for the best possible rates provided for the insurance we were asking for.

That wouldn't have happened four years ago before I started my healthy lifestyle journey.

Maintenance is tough for me right at the moment - getting a divorce after almost 23 years of marriage. This good news about the life insurance policy was a welcome lift.

Tonight I'm grateful for my youngest daughter who is doing a great job of helping mom make healthy choices at moments when I'm not so inclined.

emoticon Now I'm off to walk the dog for 15 minutes and do my plank for my challenge team before reading and bed.

emoticon No matter what your challenges - hang in there. The effort is always worth it.

I have a cup of chocolate nonfat frozen yogurt on my desk that does not taste wonderful and will definitely reawaken the sugar cravings. Yet, I had not quite talked myself out of eating it.

Your rate news made me pause. I want to receive that same kind of news, too. In order to do that, I need to make the good incremental choices.

I choose to start with this cup. emoticon
