Happy Sunday!

Sunday, February 19, 2012

I am guessing that some of you in the states have tomorrow off so you will have a long week end. Enjoy!
My DH and I are going to walk the dogs today their 3.5 miles and then head off to Costco in Guadalajara. It's a different experience than going to a Costco in the states. The many of the products are different...lots of beans and rice. But you can still get simalar things like bulk paper towels, TP, and such so it's worth it. And their meat products are good.
Hope all my sparks buddies have a good day.
Sallie

Hope you had fun shopping in Guadalajara today Sallie! I wish I could have joined you today! LOL!
Your right they do have a lot of good stuff there. I'm sure you get lots of yummy stuff.
Do you ever go to Galeria del Calzado when you are in Guadalajara? It is a mall full of just shoe stores. My favorite thing to shop for is shoes so that is my kind of mall!

We have our Costco membership for the one in Cabo San Lucas...45 mins away. What a life safer! Ours has a lot of...furniture, household items and bulk foods. I like their stands to try certain Mexican foods, especially cheeses and dips. I founds some really cute Yoga pants there last week for $2.00. YaY! Have a great day! and fun shopping!

Have a great shopping trip - hope you find everything on your list!
The Costco in Hermosillo hasn't had any Tillamook sharp cheddar for the last month or so :( My friend looks for it for me every time she goes, no luck so far.

PS When I went with my friend to the Costco in Hermosillo, they even had books in english for around 100 pesos each!

Sharing sunrise over Ajijic, Mexico

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Beautiful sunrise this morning. Had to share. Feeling great great today as the sun is shinning and I had a great light food day yesterday as well as lots of steps on my pedometer. I just love waking up when I have had a good day the day before. The scale was also nice to me and 2 pounds of the water weight from eating out were gone. Woo hoo! Going to keep on keeping it light until I go out for birthday lunch with Mom on Friday and Birthday dinner on Saturday.
Hope all my sparks buddies are doing great. Have a terrific week end.

The sun is out a bit today

Friday, February 17, 2012

what a difference it makes to have the sun out a bit. I just feel so much more energized. It's also easier to stay away from those "comfort" foods that you want to eat when cold and cloudy. After all the eating out as expected I am up in weight and what's even harder is that the junk food is in my system and now I crave it. So funny how that works. When I don't eat the sugar and salt I don't crave it as much. I actually crave good foods when I am eating right. So it will take a couple of days of not eating sugar and salt to get back to not craving them. That will be just in time for me to go out to eat again on Friday next week with Mom for my 60th birthday and then again out for diner on Saturday night which is my real birthday. Can't believe I am going to turn the big 60!!!! Somehow now I don't feel "middle aged" anymore. I keep trying to tell myself that it is just a number but this birthday feels a little bit like a bummer.
But I am thankful that I am healthy..............now I am just going to give myself permission to be that slightly eccentric "older gal" that I always envisioned I would be.
Hope all my sparks buddies are doing just great.
Have a terrific day and wonderful week end.
Sallie

Well, I still have a couple of years left to get there. But if I look even half as good as you do, I will be very happy. I am finally learning the importance of eating healthy everyday. It takes a long time to learn good habits, it only taks a few minutes to tear it all down.
By the way: Happy Birthday you 25 year old you!

You are beautiful Sallie! And yes, sunshine is wonderfully healing and my days feel much more energetic as well. It's interesting to me because in MN we never ever had this much sunshine of course...and when the sun came out it was "hurry up and enjoy the day" because there would probably be a blizzard or something arriving the next day! But here...living here for the winter, nearly every single day is sunny! yet, we've had a streak of very cold cloudy weather, down in the low 50's at night and 66-67 in the day. Once the sun is going down...wow does it get cold. I hope you have a fantastic birthday next week and that the sun is coming up again over there TODAY!! emoticon

Hope you get back to a comfortable weight in time for your bday!

Btw you do not look 60! So you shouldn't feel old at all.

so glad that I can eat at home until the 25th!

Thursday, February 16, 2012

After having to eat out two days in a row I am feeling pretty bloated and zapped of energy. My body just doesn't like when I go off course. I am so happy that I can eat at home now until the 25th which is my 60th birthday and we will be going out to eat then. So it's back to my low calorie routine which will make me feel so much better. Woo hoo.
I did have fun though both days eating out with Mom on Valentine's Day and then yesterday with my DH ex-brother in law.
Hope all my sparks buddies are doing well.

I totally understand..I feel tremendously better making food at home. Tho I love the taste of the food here, it throws me off track. I dread when I crave burritos coz those are my very favorite!! and margaritas...! I have refused to buy those yummy fresh flour tortillas and bring them home to make...I'd be as big as a house!

It is hard to stay on track when eating in restaurants but you can make some choices that help you stay on track. I always try to see if I can find the menu online so I can decide what I want before I go. That way I don't have to see all the tempting things on the menu when I get there. I always ask for salad dressing on the side. I avoid anything with the words fried or creamy in the title or description. There are a lot of good foods to choose in many restaurants.

Eating at home makes it easier to stick with the plan. The last 2 months have been crazy with all the snow birds getting here - it's the social season! the last 6 weeks have been hard - I gained 2-3 pounds instead of losing them and that despite exercising more then I ever have in my life! So not fair!

Had a nice lunch/early diner with Mom yesterday. We went to a really good Italian place where the owners are from Northern Italy so you can just imagine how good the food was. I had the veggie lasagne with extra sauce and Mom and I split a salad. Oh and of course a couple of beers. I took some fresh cooked meat lasagne home to my DH to enjoy as well. And I stopped and got him his favorite ice cream. Oh yes and I had a little of that as well. As you can see by my photos, Mexicans love the holiday. There was a balloon guy on every corner so it made our village look very colorful. I took some quick photos while stopped at red lights. they were through my car window so that is why they aren't real clear.
Today will be an interesting day as my husband's ex-brother-in-law is touring Mexico and wanted to come and visit us. I have never met him so will be interesting. We will take him on a tour of our village and then over to the next village for an authentic molcajete. This a baked cheese thing with shrimp, chicken, beef in a piping hot volcanic bowl. It is very good and you can't get them in the states as the volcanic bowls aren't allowed to be used. I guess a bit of it could chip off or something. I added a photo of one here for you to see. Every time we take people there, they love it.
Hope all my sparks buddies are doing well.
Have a great day.
Sallie

I made my hubby a spicy shrimp dish for our Valentine's day dinner. My own version of camarones a la diabla with extra veggies like zucchini and kale. I didn't eat candies that day either. Just too full after the dinner! I did on Monday though. Still burning that off too.
