Things to remember

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

By Captain Obvious :) (In other words, I shouldn't need to remind myself but I do.)

* Tracking works.
* Exercise can be super-fun! (Did the Bollywood workout on the Spark Videos today - so much fun!)
* Even light exercise adds up. Walking at lunchtime helps me de-stress, so to decrease the chance of stress eating.
* Strawberries (or any fruit) in season are incredible!
* Too much junk food doesn't feel good. It doesn't solve any problems. It just makes me a little guilty and queasy.
* Plan, plan, plan, and then execute. Just vaguely hoping doesn't do it.

And most importantly, especially at this stage, I need to remind myself to get up again and just keep going!

Time to Get Serious

Friday, June 07, 2013

2013 so far has been really rough for me in terms of health. I got wrecked by pneumonia and seemingly endless colds, etc.

In May I did an anti-allergen diet, which overall was very healthy but left me way too excited about everything I had eliminated, especially sugar and caffeine.

I recently started up again but so far I've been kind of flighty about it, which means I spend time feeling like I'm messing up, instead of feeling happy and healthy since I'm tracking and doing what need to be done.

Plans (not goals - plans, because I need to make it happen!)

* At least 10 minutes of exercise every day.
- Stroller walks both weekend days.
- Wake up early to sneak in strength and cardio if possible.
- Walk at lunch, even if it's brief (usually I get started and don't want to stop).

* Track food.
- High-fiber breakfast (going to try cutting out eggs).
- Need to cut down on the fat - I've been enjoying lots of grilled veggies but I think there's too much fat, which could be affecting the cholesterol level.
- Go to farmer's market and get fruits and veggies (and avoid the fudge and kettle corn).

* Take care of my asthma.
- Inhaler thing twice a day
- Track it!

  Good plans! Those seem really concrete! My favorite high-fiber breakfast is plain bran flakes, puffed rice (high volume, low cal) and berries. If I get a bite of berry with every spoonful, it's just sweet enough for me.

Also, the NYTimes 7-minute workout is tough but rewarding: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/

orkout/

I think it's just hard enough that if you really do it that quickly, you are tired but happy. And then you've done almost all 10 fitness minutes that day!

Have a great weekend! I'll try to virtually stoller walk with you!

I can't, I can't - oh wait, yes I can!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

“Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right.” Henry Ford

There's a reason for cliches and overused quotations - they are very often true! I got stuck in "I can't" for too long. We all have our reasons and excuses. I needed to open up my eyes to which ones were delusions.

Excuse-busters!

* I'm too busy: Be creative, strategic, and flexible - I can make it work! Plan, plan, plan, and come up with Plan B as needed.
* I'm too stressed: Duh, good food and nutrition make life better and ease stress!
* It's too tough: I've done it before and I can do it again.
* It doesn't make a difference: Yes it does! Every decision makes a difference.
* I have no willpower: It's harder while nursing but I can do it! Every time I exercise my willpower it gets stronger.
* I need, need, NEED chocolate three times a day: Um, no, I don't :)

So, this week's goals:
* Cardio 3x
* Meet with trainer 2x
* Track food

    I sure know where you're coming from. When we're busy, it's so hard to overcome the intertia that keeps us in our old habits. However, once you do, the momentum will build and until suddenly it's a different kind of intertia -- one that keeps you moving forward in a postitive direction. I know you'll find the spark you need to change from a body at rest to a body in motion. You've done it before & you WILL do it again!

I forgot my pants today

Wednesday, February 01, 2012

3 AM: Change fussy baby.
4 AM: Convince baby to go back to sleep.
5 AM: Dash out the door, drive to work, get in quick cardio session.
5:55 AM: Realize I forgot my pants.

Oh lovely. Luckily I had a spare pair of workout capris - but I can't really wear these all day, so I've got to pop out once the stores open and get a pair of pants - ASAP.

This is why I really need to pack the night before! ANYthing can happen in that mad morning rush. And maybe have backup pants here!
