NEED TO WORK THINGS THROUGH....

Friday, September 16, 2011

Today I had a critical meeting with a Publisher about my book. He is not publishing it, but I wanted to talk to him on an advisory basis to advise us on the marketing and promotional aspects of the book.

He had some really positive things to say and suggested some changes. TO THE TITLE, to the cover and so...well, I have all this to think about!

I AM WORKING THROUGH THOSE THINGS in my mind.....It is so hard to know what to do and what will work......I want it to work and to be the best. There has never been a book like this before, I have nothing to model my book on! It certainly is unique. And Ultimately no matter what anyone says, the final decisions stay with me and end with me..quite a responsibility

It is my baby ....( not literally!) and I am so close to "giving birth" to it.

All the ideas and suggestions are swirling in my head.......

Let them swirl and percolate, tomorrow I sit down and I am finishing this book!
My hubby and I have set aside this whole weekend...except for 3 hours on Sunday to have this book finished by Monday morning and it is going to be a MARATHON, but we are going to do it.

THEREFORE, I am going to bed early tonight! That means I will be in bed by 9:30 - bathed and snuggled up tight!
I have a cold and it is very annoying, but these things happen at "back to school " time. It was so nice to be germ free over the holidays.

Today when we had our meeting, we had lunch at a restaurant with the person we were talking to and I did not even look at the dessert menu and I had the most delicious chicken salad with caramelised pecans and Roquefort Cheese. I had TEA with my meal and I am finding that as I see results on the scale ( still down that SAME pound that I lost .....whoo hooo! ) I am more motivated to eat well and make healthy choices. Tonight I did not really have dinner planned because of work etc and so I threw some Pizza pops in the oven for the kids and a sausage roll in for hubby and went off to the grocery store to buy some REAL FOOD!

I came back with a roast pepper and white bean dip, and some tostitos for the salsa ....and that was my dinner. Salsa and chips, flatbread and white-bean and red pepper dip. I had half of a pizza pop and some blackcurrant and peach juice. A little unorthodox I know, but I had no time to cook.

After dinner DH and I sat down for another meeting with tea and two almond cookies each.

The kids are asleep so I am going to wait for the dishwasher to finish , then go for a bath and go to bed early. I will be up nice and early to work a 18 hour day tomorrow and a 9-hour day on Sunday. ( OH, I long for the days when I can have my Sundays off again!)

Last night DH and I cleaned out the fridge from top to bottom and it was a team effort and it is so rewarding to THROW out all the yucky stuff, the old stuff, the unhealthy stuff and clean the fridge. Now when I open the fridge I smile, instead of thinking " URGH! something is going to fall out and spill, I just know it!"
Haven't I got the best hubby!?

On Sunday we are taking a few hours off to have a BBQ with family and the cousins will get to hang out ...we will need it by then. AND for the first time I am not taking dessert BUT a salad! THAT HAS GOT TO BE HISTORY IN THE MAKING! She is doing weight watchers and she is the one who inspired me to do C 2 5k, so we are just not doing dessert! WHOO HOO! AND the ground breaking thing is, I DON'T WANT ANY EITHER!

So......I was looking up Butterfly facts and did you know that the L.E.D. light is as a result of the study of butterflies wings!
This is what wikipedia says :
"Studies on the reflection and scattering of light by the scales on wings of swallowtail butterflies led to the innovation of more efficient light-emitting diodes."

interesting eh?

You're doing great!! Well done not even looking at the dessert - in most places they're not really worth the cals either...
So close to finishing your book, how nice to get all that feedback but it does make you think.. Good luck!!!
Take care of yourself and hope you get over that cold soon

SUBMISSION SEPTEMBER report back after 2 weeks

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Today I crossed 45,750 fitness minutes!
Today I weighed in....lost a pound. ( what makes that even BETTER is TOM IS HERE AND I AM STILL DOWN!)
Today I started week 3 of Couch to 5k running program and it went surprisingly well. It was the first time we were required to run 3 min and it was ACTUALLY not as hard as I feared it might be!

I am still eating a salad a day most days. I think my appetite is shrinking at last! Substituting carob for chocolate is working well! NO pre TOM symptoms or loss of control! whoo hooo! no binging....and because I am seeing results, I am motivated to take more care about what I eat! Minimising bread in my life.....which is key!

I have started doing YOGA AGAIN! ( twice last week)

okay only 2 - 4 poses a session, but you gotta start somewhere.

Did not swim this week.

Got my writing MOJO back.....and things are going well and I am seeing results.

Getting back into routine and it is working! PHWEW!

So how is submission September working for you?

Looks like you're having some success with your Submission September! Well done! And it is amazing the difference a routine can make. My life was completely out of whack until I could get back to my normal routine. I'm a creature of habit.

Oh, how I wish I could shrink my appetite...how do you do that, LOL?! Glad things are going well. Cool on the yoga! I seem to end up doing either yoga or weights once a week, never manage to get both in.

Weekend food....and coping stratergies

Monday, September 12, 2011

This weekend well, starting from last Thursday meant that there were 2 occasions where we ate out.

One thing that I did was stay far away from the food once I had had enough to eat, out of sight is a good thing. This really struck a chord with me when my daughter said she was full and had had enough but just wanted " to go look" at the dessert. I explained to her if she was full then she should NOT go look at the food because her eyes would convince her stomach that she needed more. As I was explaining it to her I thought, SO SIMPLE, SO TRUE..yet we still fall into that trap as adults. So I sat as far away from the food as I could get and chatted and socialised instead. IT WORKED and I think...DUH! Of course it worked.....

As for the rest of the weekend:

Saturday I made home made turkey burgers, they were delicious! O boy! Even hubby raved!
Anyway this is Sunday breakfast & lunch:

Banana pancakes with flaxseed and choc chips and then half a slice brown bread French toast ( cholesterol free) with Kefir yoghurt and nectarines and raw almonds. the syrup is Agave nectar.

Roast beef salad....with Chinese crackers as croutons. ( hubby doesn't like them...lol)
We had marsala dressing on the salad!

OH and this weekend I made more brownies.....
I did not have black beans , but I had navy beans so I puree'd them instead of the black beans, I used the low fat brownie mix and it turned out great, the kids love them and it is the only way they will eat BEANS! lol

Since I am anticipating TOM, I am trying to eliminate chocolate from my diet.
( yeah I know, the brownies are not quite the same, I am talking about real chocolate, you know as in chocolate covered almonds and chocolate bars) The only time I am really weak in this area is PRE TOM and DURING, so I armed myself with CAROB.
Carob raisins, Carob peanuts, and I have some carob powder. Once I have eliminated chocolate, I will work on minimising the carob things. But one thing I noticed with the Carob is because it is sweeter I eat less. Also it does not seem to be as addictive, you know what I mean? I got to thinking that if I put on a pound in that week of TOM and PRE TOM then that adds up to 12 pounds a year and if I put on 1/2 a pound a time it is 3 pounds a year, and if you add that up over 3 years!...and so on...maybe that is why I continue to put on weight?

SO I figure if I PREVENT gaining that half-full pound every month, surely that will stop the weight gain?

In my last blog I mentioned my friend from Beijing's visit and she brought me a teapot for my 40th! So I took a pic! It makes a perfect amount of tea for hubby and I! Hot and strong and tasty! I love my teapot! Well...let me rephrase that, I sound like my kids...I love having tea from my teapot. it is an inanimate object after all! But it is cute! inanimate or not!

Apparently the writing on it is a poem, I am going to try find out what the poem is.....

Report back on the book:

I got the Foreword done today with the guy who is doing it! ( former Olympic team swimmer and an awesome guy! )

I got many little loose ends tidied up and sorted out things for my latest magazine articles.
( if you want to see some of the magazine articles, visit my website.)
I had not added the latest issue of the magazine but will do soon.

Today I felt like I got somewhere! Achieved some things...that is always a good feeling, last week I was rather unmotivated to work on the book with it being the last week of the kids Vacation.

I am going to do week 2 work out 3 of C 2 5k tonight,

Whoo hoo! I meant to do it this morning but got a flurry of emails! lol

It looks like I will be able to have my exercise schedule set up ( including swim times) by the end of the week so I am pleased about that !

Reminder: don't miss the opportunity to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you!

Wow you are busy! You must be so excited about the book!

When it comes to Chocolate and things like that... it might help if you decide when you "CAN" have it, instead of when you can not. For example on a Friday night I will have some chocolate covered cranberries ~ then I have something to look forward to instead of feeling deprived. All summer I told dh I WAS GOING TO have a Marble Slab Icecream at the end of the summer... it took until last Sunday ~ but we enjoyed every bite!!!

Enjoy your running. I'm signed up for a 5km in October so now I have something to train for!

emoticon Your teapot is delightful! Sharing tea is one of my favorite pass-times. Should you get the deciphered poem I would love to know it. I use to have several different oriental tea pots. I gave a few away to friends as keepsakes when I moved a while ago. Ironically others were destroyed during that move. My kitchen cabinets display a collection of tea pots on top of them. I select and use them according to the occasion and those who are sharing tea with me. I have a clear glass tea pot that is used most often when I am alone because it can be set directly on the stove top to heat like a kettle. However, the others come down to party often. lol There is something friendly, tranquil and joyful about having your tea from a pot that makes "me" feel special. I hope it does the same for you! If you don't have one, you might like to get a tea-cozy for your tea pot with the cooler weather coming up. Keep smiling sunshine ... and share it with a pot of tea and a friend. emoticon

Wow! You have a busy life :)
Love the teapot - tea always tastes so much better out of a good pot...
Delicious meals! Yum on the salad, the pancakes look good too but I'll pass, thanks...
Great advice to your DD - don't look and you won't want... Hmm does that work for shoes too???
A few tips to minimize TOM weight (this helps me) cut waayy back on sugar and grains (eliminate wheat if you can), up the lean protein and veggies and drink plenty of water and tea.
Sooo exciting about your book being so close to finished! Keep us posted.

Curried Tofu and Never a Dull moment!

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Today I had a very interesting day, after I posted my blog my doorbell rang and then....to cut a long story short, a guy we know in the neighbourhood in his 50's or 60's, I can't tell, came to my door and we talked and I could tell he was not coherent, next thing he passed out on my driveway. I knew he was diabetic so I called 911....the came and took him to the hospital, and he will be okay.

Needless to say I was so shaken by it that I forgot to have lunch.

DH went to physio for his back today and he has to do the exercises that I Had to do when MY Back was sore...he has what I had....hip out of alignment.
So he says since I have done the exercises I will have to be his trainer.

The important phone call I got went well, but needs follow up.

Then we heard that Alex Baumann just stepped down from being CEO of own the podium today, you know, the same guy I was emailing last week. So who knows how THAT will impact things?

So anyways I made dinner after all of this:

CURRIED TOFU with BISMATI rice.
- with Broccoli and red pepper in it.

here is a photo:

p.s that is a side plate.

Wow Mel! Crazy day is right! If it's who I think it may have been... we send our prayers for the family!

Thinking of you as you finish off the book. I don't think his stepping down will affect the book, although it must have been a shock! Can you include that or at least alude to it?

Your dinner looks amazing!

Sweet dreams tonight! emoticon
