Is that really me???

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Well...I signed up over a week ago, and here I am. Nothing accomplished, no motivation. I am writing this blog tonight because about 15 minutes ago, I was in my room folding laundry, and i turned to face none other than the full length mirror. Wow. Thats all I can say. I had to laugh to keep from crying. All of he sudden, it was like I seen myself for the first time for actually how big I really am. I am a full size 16, I could probably wear an 18 very comfortably. I told myself that when I was outgrowing my 14's, that as long as I stayed comfy in a 16, it was fine but I would NEVER become an 18. Well...truth be told, if I stop lying to myself, I AM an 18. My baby brother is getting married in July, and I have to be ready! I dont want to focus all of my weight loss on that particular event, tho, b/c Im afraid that once that gets here, it will all come back. I WANT TO CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE!! My mind is so onboard, its ridiculous, but I cant get going. I am using the excuse that the gym I signed up for does not open until mid April (a new Planet Fitness is opening and I got in on early registration) so I guess that I feel like I dont have to do anything , or be responsible until then. However, I need too, at the very least, start walking...that will even help me to be somewhat ready to take on daily workouts and not be so drained. Question is, how do I get motivated when I am on my own? There is 1 thing that I have been doing...I am not catholic (Baptist :) , but the girls in my office all stopped something for lent, so I included myself (1st time I have ever observed it, dont know alot about it) but anyway, I gave up sweet tea - and let me tell you - that is HUGE for me! I am from TN and I love me some sweet tea, and I mean..sweet! But since the 22nd, I have only drank water. Now I can have other things, but I have only opt'd to drink water. I did start flavoring it about 3 days ago...just to change it up. So, I guess once I think about it, that is something...right??? Geez - this is really hard. I do need to realize that I have totally let myself go and I am...well...fat. I need to take care of my body, not only for obvious reasons, but health reasons as well. Well, Im not sure anybody will read this, but if you happen too, a little encouragement will do me some good. Sorry I was all over the place, I just needed to vent. I sat down with my computer and automatically went to browse facebook, but something told me to come here to SP instead, Im glad I did. I had no intentions of writing a blog, but it has made me feel better. Ok. Im gonna go, Biggest Loser is coming on in 30 min, so gotta get the kiddos ready for bed and see if I can get Bob, or Dolvett, to inspire me. Well, thanks again everybody. I need this....Everyone have a blessed night!!! :)

You are SO in the right place! You may not know it, but you've taken all the right steps already. You've faced reality - always a very hard one, you've made a small change - replaced sweet tea with water, you've joined Spark, and you've written a blog! If it's okay with you, I'm going to add you as a "friend," so I can see how you add more small changes from week to week. Congratulations and welcome!

Be kind to yourself, remember this is a marathon not a race. I think the biggest frustration is having to SLOWLY watch the weight come off. But remember to keep going, those little changes REALLY make a difference, I have never tried sweet tea but I am suddenly glad I haven't (it sounds delish!). You are in the right place. Keep checking in, keep tracking and do what you can to get some exercise in, even if it's just walk up and down the stairs for a few minutes to get that heart rate up. You can do this!

Oh boy, do i know where you are coming from! I'm not that far into this journey, but the one thing that has changed for me was i do cardio 5 times a week now. Instead of none. I joined the 10 minutes of exercise challenge. Because 10 minutes is doable. and if i can do more after that 10 minutes then i can. One thing i was surprised to find on spark was fitness videos! They have some 10 minute Coach Nicole fitness videos. kickboxing, cardio. and 10 minutes 5 times a week is doable. heck, even 3 times a week. You don't have to leave your home if it is too cold outside and maybe it could tide you over until your gym membership kicks in emoticon

Winnie said everything that I would have said! She's awesome! :) Just take it slowly and don't beat yourself up if you slip. It's a process and it's not supposed to be fast or really easy. The weight didn't come on in a month so it's not going to go away that fast. Good luck! You can do it!

I did the exact same thing with the pants sizes... well as long as I'm still in a 16... then it was 18... then it was 20. Before I started doing anything about my weight, those 20s were uncomfortable... but less than a year later I'm wearing a size 10! I never, ever thought I'd be in a size 10.

I know it probably seems overwhelming in the beginning when you think about how far you have to go to get to your goal and how many changes you have to make in your life to accomplish those goals. Try to choose small goals... instead of focusing on lose 50 pounds, focus on losing 5 pounds because that is much more attainable in the short term. Try to pick a couple of things each week to change so that it's not so overwhelming. Increase your water intake, start tracking your food and be sure to measure everything so you are getting the correct portion sizes, start eating more fruits and veggies, start to get some exercise even if it's just 10 minutes a day... all of those little changes add up in big ways!

Oh sweet tea! I adore sweet tea! I was never a coffee fan so my morning caffeine used to come from a bottle of Lipton Sweetened tea... 140 calories and like 37 carbs. After a few months of struggling to figure out how to stay in my 1200-1550 calorie range, I made the decision to give up the sweet tea. That gave me 140 calories that I could EAT instead of drink each day. That tea did nothing to fill me up... but 140 calories of food, especially if I chose something healthy... satisfied hunger so much better! It was MUCH easier to stay in my nutrition ranges once I decided not to drink my calories... my one exception is chocolate milk (1% milk with light chocolate syrup) because that is my post-workout "snack". Some days that's the only reason I go to the gym... so I can drink chocolate milk when I'm done with my workout.

Good luck with your goals! emoticon
