Reflection on the last 8 weeks!

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

I read back over my letter to myself, and while I can say that I am happy with where I currently am, I have let a few of those goals slide:

1. I said I would exercise a minimum of 20 minutes, 6 days a week.
Truth: It's been more like 5 days a week.

2. I said if I slipped up on my eating, I would track it and move on.
Truth: The tracking has been off and on, but I'm happy to say that if I slip up nutritionally, I've not let a slip turn into a slide.

3. I would do ST twice a week.
Truth: This one, I have been spot on with. I've also changed up my ST program, and that has made a huge difference on the scale!

4. I said I would keep up to date with my teammates.
Truth: I have missed a day of posting here and there, but all in all, I think I've done a good job with this one.

5. I said I would sign up for my next 5K.
Truth: I admit I have been procrastinating about this one. I have one picked out, but didn't sign up yet.

Finally, in my letter, I told myself how proud I was of myself for not giving up and getting to my goal.
Truth: My goal is right at my fingertips, and I couldn't be prouder of myself!

My plan for the last 4 weeks of this challenge is to keep up with my current NTC exercise program, continue to eat as clean as possible (including stepping up on the tracking), and get that sign up done!

I plan to be standing on that scale a winner at the end! emoticon

A letter to me at the end of BLC21

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Dear Future Dulci,

Wow! I can't believe you finally did it! You made it to goal!
I'm so proud of you for not giving up on yourself.

When things got busy, you still made the time to get in your minimum of 20 minutes 6 days a week. When you slipped up and ate more than you should, you didn't throw in the towel, you tracked it and moved on and made your next choice a healthy one.

You did your strength straining twice a week and just look at how trim and tone you are!

You kept up to date with your team members. You cheered them on and they cheered you on. You leaned on them when you felt your motivation slipping.

You signed up for your next 5K, and I just know you are going to improve on your time!

You are a success and don't you ever think differently! The journey only gets better from here.

Sincerely,
Your present self

P.S. Don't forget to pack all those smaller clothes for Disney!

Forest ABCs of Me (Round 21)

Friday, January 11, 2013

A is for ABOVE and BEYOND...Does competition push you? Competition does push me to try harder. I find competing to better myself the most motivating.

B is for BLC rounds... Newbie?(first BLC round) Oldie?(1-3 rounds) Goldie?(long time BLCer)? Former BLC team(s)? Definately a Goldie (thank goodness they don't have a Moldie catagory). All but one of my rounds was as a Pixie.

C is for CHILDREN...you have? I have 2 girls who are soon to turn 9 and 11.

D is for DOWNFALL...what's you're biggest temptation? unhealthy snacking. My meals are almost always healthy, but it is snacks that can get me in trouble at times.

E is for EARLY Bird or Night Owl? Definately and early bird. I rarely sleep past 5:30am.

F is for FURRY FRIENDS...you have? I have a german shepard dog and 2 cats

G is for GROCERIES...what do you fill your cart with? Lots of freggies and I always have greek yogurt in the fridge.

H is for HOME...where do you call home? Born, raised and still live in MA. I can't picture not being a New Englander.

I is for INSPIRE...who or what is your roll model/inspiration? Right now my inspiration is to make my 40s my healthiest decade and to pass my healthy habits on to my kids (and maybe even inspire my husband).

J is for JOB...What do you do for a living? I am a supervisor at a facility for developmentally disabled adults.

K is for KEEP IT SIMPLE...What's your healthy focus when short on time? Honestly it's planning. When I know I am short on time, if I have not planned food and fitness ahead, I won't make the best choices.

L is for LOG...Do you use the Nutrition and Fitness trackers? I have been using them faithfully for the last 2 weeks and plan to continue.

M is for MARRIED, Single, Involved? I have been happily married for 13 years.

N is for NAME...What's the meaning behind your sparkname? My spark name means that I am, and will always be a work in progress. Even when I reach goal, the journey is not over.

O is for OUNCES...How many ounces of water do you consume on a daily basis? Lately, it has been 48 ounces. I need to get it back up to 64 ounces.

P is for PRODUCE...How many fruits and veggies do you consume daily? I do pretty good with this one. I usually have 3 fruits and 2 veggies a day. I incorporate one or the other with every meal and snack.

Q is for QUOTE...what's your favorite? I may not be the strongest, and I may not be the fastest, but I will be darned if I'm not trying my hardest!

R is for ROUTINE...Average number of days and minutes you exercise weekly? I'm exercising 7 days a week right now. I have 2 days that are only 10 - 15 minutes, but the other 5 I am averaging 40 - 45 miutes.

S is for STATURE...How tall are you? I am 5'4" (alas I used to be 5" 4.5", but I have started to shrink)

T is for TIME...What time zone are you in? Eastern

U is for UNWIND...What is your favorite pass time or hobby? I love to read and there are a couple of TV shows I love to watch.

V is for VACATION...If you could travel anywhere, what destination would you choose? I would love to see Hawaii someday.

W is for WEIGHT WORKOUT...Do you follow a consistent ST program? Yes, I am doing the January Jumpstart which uses Coach Nicole videos for ST.

X is for "X" MARKS THE SPOT...What do you want to see happen these 12 weeks, other than the scale move? I want to get toned and improve my 5K time.

Y is for YESTERDAY...Do you dwell on poor choices or allow them to push you forward? I definately let them push me forward!

Z is for ZERO...name one weight loss tool you couldn't live without?
My attitude - when it's in the right place, I can acomplish anything!

Recapturing wasted time

Monday, December 31, 2012

One of my assignments on Spark Coach today was to blog about how I waste time and to come up with healthier ways I can use that time to reach my goals.

Boy do I know how to waste time - especially on Facebook! While a short amount of time on Facebook is a nice way to unwind and catch up with people, too much time is definately a waste and an escape from reality.

Escaping reality does not help me reach my goals!

While I am out shopping today, I am picking myself up a planner, in which I will schedule my time. I will schedule my daily workouts and I will schedule my downtime - including Facebook. I will use a timer at first, to stick to the amount of time I have given myself.

With my new found free time - I will be able to spend more time with my family, make sure I fit in those scheduled workouts, cross more things off my to-do list, and make sure I fit in my Sparktime.

If you have a Smart phone you can do as I do. I set reminders in my phone. Like for instance I have one to go off each morning that says 'I will stick with my plan today' and they remind me of different things throughout the day.
Here are some others
'I'm totally determined'
'Mary you can do this'
'I CAN DO IT!'
Of course I have my doctor's appointments, birthdays and various other things I need to be reminded of. But you have also given me the idea to also schedule my workouts and to drink a glass of water (I struggle with this).

I'm sure you already know what 'they say' (whoever they are).
If you fail to plan then you plan to fail.

I wish you well.

My BLC 20 Plan for Success! (with before pics)

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

My 12 week plan:

Here are the goals I am trying to reach:
1. Finally lose these last 8 pounds!
2. Run a 5K
3. See some muscles and definition.

How I plan to get there:
1. Cardio 6 times a week for 20 - 60 minutes
2. ST 2-3 times per week (Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays)
3. Nutrition: - Track all food daily
- Get at least 5 servings of freggies daily
- Get at least 64 ounces of water daily

Weekly plan:
Sundays - Fun Family Fitness (bike, walk, roller skate, etc)
Mondays - Zumba, ST, and 5K training (this is my LCW day)
Tuesdays - Rest day
Wednesdays - 5K training and Wii hula hoop
Thursdays - Step-ups and ST
Fridays - 5K training
Saturdays - elliptical and ST

My Plan B (what to do when the day gets crazy):
At least 20 minutes of walking and as many fruits and veggies and glasses of water as I can get.

Hope to see some noticable changes at the end of 12 weeks!
