I already have my 100 points so I could just go to bed with my book now. emoticon

Worked out (gently) with DD today and I acted as her personal trainer and really pushed her with ST. She was sweaty and, I think, amazed at what she could do, with a little more effort than she usually puts into her workouts. I hope she is 'good sore' tomorrow because she'll love that. emoticon

Lucy day tomorrow- will try to get some new pics. She is now putting more and more words together for short sentences and can sing several short songs. She is such a joy to be with and is even showing signs of readiness for potty training (she'll be 2 in May) although her mom (who's going back to work in March after having William in Nov) may wait until the summer.

My hip feels a bit better today- slept pretty well last night.
G'night, peeps!

My 500 calorie breakfast

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Breakfast (copied from my tracker)

Banana, fresh,
Clementine, 1 serving
Butter, whipped, 1.5 pat
Egg, fresh, 1 large
Egg white, 4 serving
Freihofer Bread, 1 serving
Half and Half Cream, 1 tbsp
Milk, 2%, 4 fl oz
Tea, brewed, 24 fl oz
Laughing Cow Original Cheese, 1 serving
Meal Totals 505 50 38 6 797

emoticonSee why I love Sundays?
Actually, I slept until 9 (hip wasn't too bad during the night) and had tea and the 2 fruits then.
I iced my hip and read the paper until 10:30.
Then I ate the eggs, toast, and more tea.
Oh, I sliced up 5 cherry tomatoes for my plate, too- gotta go add those.

So, total of 505 calories-
51 carbs
(mostly the 1/2 banananananana and the slice of whole wheat toast) emoticon emoticon
and 38 grams of protein
(I love to add 1/2 cup of pasteurized egg whites to one egg for my scrambled- plus a flavored Laughing Cow cheese to zip it up).

I'll probably make a salad for lunch w/2 oz of chicken breast so I can relax at my friend's Super Bowl Party. No wine for me- had 2 last night.

ANOTHER rest day today- as my friend says "Forget the points and let your dang hip heal!"

Have a peaceful Sunday, all.

I'm trying to let it go. emoticon
It's immature. emoticon
I'm a big baby. emoticon
But I hate when I spin a TWO and I'm taking a rest day and my points are wickit low. emoticon
Doesn't help that I had to add a 3rd rest day this week, as per my PT's instructions, as my hip was hurting yesterday after a few days of very gently double workouts. emoticon
I have spent all day stretching and icing (well, besides working 4 hours and spending 3 hours chasing after little Miss Lucy- literally- love to make her laugh out loud by playing chase around the house).
Tomorrow will be a better day.
I love Sundays.
Especially Super Bowl Sunday- although I don't care who wins this year.

I don't get the 2s and 3s on the wheel - why are they even there? What does it cost SP to put more 10s, 25s and even 100s on the wheel to encourage folks to spin? They're free. And if there is just one 2 on the wheel I know I will land on it. It is time for SP to be more generous. LOL - I don't necessarily try to up my points every day, but it would be nice if the spins were at least a little encouraging. Have a great day, Elizabeth, and I hope you are feeling better soon! Could this be true?

Thursday, February 03, 2011

I heard on the news last night that yesterday's (school) snow day was the first in Chicago since 1999.
How is that possible?
Don't they have a lot of snow there?
Providence had their 5th snow day of the year yesterday.
Enlighten me.

Seriously! HSMOM2FOUR, your story reminded me of a visit to Raleigh N.C. back in the late 80's. I'm from Jersey, so we get our share of snow most years. So I'm down there hanging out at a friend's apartment and we get this colossal snow, sleet, ice storm - 6 inches worth of yuck. Well I wasn't surprised when the schools shut down, and so did everything else. But in Jersey, the roads would've been plowed, salt down, and everybody back to doing 80mph on the GSParkway by that evening. So the next day, I'm surprised, no plows, nobody shoveling their walks, driveways, nobody's even digging out their car!?! By the third day we had run out of food, so we had to bundle up and walk a mile to the nearest food store. That's when I realized, it wasn't just the apartment complex that was doing nothing, the entire city was shut down! Not a single car on the highway. It was like an eerie ghost town. I asked one of the cashiers "What kind of a plan is there for snow removal here?"
and she says...

wait for it...

"Let it melt"

"Seriously?" I said

"Yup"

We were snowed in for 6 DAYS!!

Snow days NEVER happen in places that are used to snow. It takes something extremely significant for them to close down schools and businesses. We just suck it up!

I will clarify since I went to a Chicago Public High School.

The PUBLIC school system RARELY RARELY RARELY closes school. It has to be a storm of THESE proportions for them to!

Private schools close every year whenever it snows and it is slightly more than usual! :)

I agree with those that say that they are just better equiped to deal with the snow.
I know though that even though they have things to deal with the snow in Pennslvania where I grew up and where one son lives with his family that Tina(DIL) who is a school teacher says they will be teaching way into June this year due to all the snow days.

HSMOM2FOUR 2/3/2011 6:56PM

They are actually equipped for the snow... unlike some states that have to shut down for flurries because we don't have the equipment -- it's less expensive to shut down the state for a day than to buy all the road equipment and hire the crews to take care of the snow!!

For example, in Orlando at Christmas, they got ice... my parents were scheduled to fly out of Orlando, but there was ice on the planes. No equipment to handle it. Their solution? Taxi the plane out to the sunny runway and wait until the ice melted (over an hour -- with all passengers sitting on the plane waiting for the ice to melt)!!

PERFECT01 2/3/2011 6:36PM

In states that get a lot of snow, the buses are equipped with tire chains and the drivers are trained to drive on bad roads. If not, our schools here in Wyo. would be closed more than they were open most winters. If we are having a blizzard they will call off school because if they can't see where they are driving, then it really is an issue!

It was ice followed by lots of snow, followed by negative temps within 24 hours. Our roads in central Illinois are still bad. It was -7 when I got up this morning so salting the roads doesn't work. It was pretty crappy out! The state of illinois shut down offices - now THAT NEVER HAPPENS!

I know that a school around here (Cleveland) very rarely ever closes, even if all others do because their Superintendant is from Minnesota...and if they can go got school in MN then there is nothing that Clevelanders can't handle....

I guess it would depend on how active the road crews are on keeping the roads clear? And they are most likely used to the wind??

book review (actually preview) #3

Monday, January 31, 2011

One of my dear sparkfriends (WINFIELD28) recommended 'The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight & Eating Great' by (the other) Pam Anderson (as she entitled her blog), who also wrote 'The Perfect Recipe', which is one of my favorite cookbooks (she reminds me of Ina Garten).
I just got this new book from the library and plan on devouring it tonight- or at least nibbling at it and gulping it tomorrow- my Lucy day- and, apparently, another snow day! emoticon
Anyway- I put the books side by side- the author's picture is on the cover of both but she has now lost about 45 pounds and it is absolutely frikken incredible the difference!
She looks at least 20 years younger at her new weight.
I just read the 25 page intro and learned of her journey and thinking. She had yo-yo'd her way up to nearly 200 pounds over the years (she's 5'4.5" and in her early 50's now) while having a successful career as a cookbook author, caterer and food writer, wife and mother. She realizes now she was a perfectionist and people pleaser with a lot of unresolved issues with her parents and self-esteem problems, which she had to work through in therapy before she could think through and focus on a plan to get healthy- not a diet- she will never diet again- but her personal plan- which she is sharing in this book- a compelling, insightful, and personal story.
She and I have a lot in common.
Will share more in my next blog.
emoticon

It was my blog that you read about Pam Anderson!
I too love her cookbooks - I have 3 or 4 of them.
When I read Pam's book in 2008 - that started my journey to healthy living, too.
Just like you, I felt that I and Pam had a lot in common.
I wanted to learn Pam's secrets. I loved her personalized approach.
And that is what I am continuing to do here - using Spark People Tools and the the support of Spark Friends - to finally figure out what I 'have to have' to be happy! Food-wise, me-time, exercise - my way, etc.
That book has been one of the biggest influences on how I have lost nearly 40 pounds in the last 7 months.
I would encourage anyone to read it! I think it's a wonderful book and cookbook!
