Lovely Lucy

Tuesday, October 05, 2010

We had a wonderful quiet rainy day with Lucy today.
She is just wild about Maisy the Mouse, a British cartoon character we stumbled upon and so we bought a bunch of books and Lucy's first dvd- which we ration out to her- mostly she likes the singalongs at the end.
DH bought her a little Maisy doll online and she is beside herself with joy!
This pic was from before Papa got up and gave her the toy.

Off to my Tuesday night cooking class!

Got a bunch of these in my email today
but this one made me think of our Sparkworld:

* We could learn a lot from crayons...
Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull.
Some have weird names, and all are different colors,
but they all have to live in the same box.

Have a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat week!

www.paperbackbookswap.com

I joined this about 2 years ago- it's free and a good way to recycle used books- paperback or hard cover.

You get 'credits' for sending out a book (which you pay $2.27 to media-mail) but you receive books for free. You create a book list of those you want to get rid of and a wish list of books that you want to get.
You can choose to buy credits w/$ if you get more books than you send out.
They also have links to places where you can actually buy books.

Anyway, I recommend this highly- have sent and received many books with no problems at all. emoticon

sounds like a great idea but of course won't work in Mexico. I am so lucky especially while being sick that my honey had bought me a Kindle and I can download books internationally. I just started Freedom which the book Oprah has recommended for her book club. I have never really liked the books she recommends but thought i would try this one....so far hard to get into.
hope you are well.
thanks for all your support and hugs.

Saturday, October 02, 2010

Woke up about 3 a.m. to pull up the quilt and then woke up a few more times with slight hip pain. emoticon
I hope it was only because the bedroom was so cold.

I feel fine today- took ibuprofen every 6 hours just in case- and had an unexpected rest day as I had a last minute babysitting request. emoticon

I have given up alcohol completely for the month of October and am surprised at how low my calorie count is. emoticon

Good night, dear Sparkies!

emoticon on giving up alcohol for this month, Elizabeth! I never lost weight when I still drank it...not only because of the calories it has, but because unfortunately, nothing stimulates my appetite like that glass or two of wine emoticon

Awww...I'm delighted you had that last-minute babysitting request (lucky baby :) ! I'm sorry your hip pain came back and suspect Marty's right; the colder weather is unkind to our joints! Unfair!! Hope you had a wonderful Saturday-night sleep, though. I get sleepier in this weather, though I always seem to thrive with a nap emoticon

My new streamlined Sparking

Friday, October 01, 2010

I noticed I eat the same number of calories (a few different foods) every day for breakfast and lunch and so have listed them under food groupings to save a bunch of time. emoticon
Unfortunately, it does not track the nutrients I watch like protein, carbs and fiber.
I am reading many many many blogs ever day but only replying with a quick emoticon, rather than taking the time to think about and compose a heartfelt or witty reply.
Sorry emoticon
My priorities have changed for the month of October.
Don't think for one second that I don't love you, though and

Are you kidding? Your replies have always been "heartfelt" to me, no matter how short and sweet! The fact that you took the time to reach out to your friends shows you care about them. I know that sometimes I have more important/pertinent things to say than others, but we connect anyway and that's a good thing!
I hope that hip of yours doesn't give you anymore trouble!
Have a great week and I'll talk with you soon!

    I'll tell you a secret...
I've never learned to really track my meals. Sad, huh. the food tracker seemed ridiculous to me and didn't do what i wanted it to do.
Like you i stick to the same thing for breakfast and lunch most days. oatmeal or yogurt and fruit, salads or lean cuisine or healthy choices.

As Mimi said, we've all come to know you as a very loving, kind, and generous lady, Elizabeth. So if you're MIL for a wee bit, or if, for the sake of brevity, you opt for some emoticons to do the talkin', we'll have a good sense of what they're saying in your stead :) That's far better than the times I've just given up on writing...because I had gotten "up to my arse in alligators," as the saying goes. Wishing you a beautiful, peaceful, and rewarding October - love and lotsa emoticon, Sandi emoticon

An emoticon is like a wave with the hands, a smile sent to the writer, a lifted eyebrow or a tear shed together or a hug to a friend. This is way better than what I have a tendency to do, not write if time is short or I am blank for a real composed answer.
I will try to learn from you and become a better sparker. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I actually like that idea of responding with an emoticon. I tend to not respond if I have nothing to add, but your way, the writer knows that you read the blog and gets a supportive little face or phrase...I will use this idea!! Spark could take over our lives unless we streamline in different ways!!! Good for you!
