I was having a really good day, at first.
I got my elder care client, Jack, to his dialysis appt at 10 (my part-time job)
and then had a nice long workout (45 min cardio, 25 stength tr, 10 min stretching).
Jack is 87 is a retired football coach (he played for the LA Rams in the early 1940's- can you imagine that? I love working with the old folks and hearing their life stories!). He was very weak and a bit confused in the morning but we managed.
When I picked him up at 2, he was a bit weaker and more confused, so much so that I had a hard time getting him into and out of my car (he's still a pretty big guy!).
Well, I got him home, made his lunch and he said he'd nap in his chair.
I went back at 5 to make his supper and he was agitated and shaky and confused and said he wanted to go to the hospital. I had to call 911 (the first time in my life!) and have him taken away. His only son who lives nearby was out of town just for the day but I reached him by cell and he said he would meet his dad at the hospital later.
It was the right thing to do but I was very upset about the whole thing.
I had asked my husband to cook tonight because I knew I wouldn't be home until 6ish and I planned on not having wine tonight but I stopped for a bottle on the way home and ate and drank too much tonight!
Definitely drank too much , more than ate too much (hubby's cooking).
I have a new respect for my fellow sparkers with stressful lives
(you know who you are, my sparkfriends!)
who somehow have bad days and still take care of themselves in healthy ways.
You have my admiration!!!!
