I thought they were starting to come in but, alas, I was mistaken.
Today- nada.

Me. What happened to my emails from Spark People?

I have a yahoo account too.

Did you ever get an answer to this?

Elizabeth- did you open a new account? I switched mine from Yahoo to comcast. I was going to switch it back - I guess not. There are plenty of free ones out there you could use.

I think I finally got mine straightened out but it was a mess.

I hope you have a great weekend. ((HUGS))

I at least started getting my SP notifications again. For a while I wasn't even getting notes about my message boards or new members or anything...

Yah - what's up with the anti-sparkmail? I've even reset my mail preferences and still it's been might quiet.

I hope you have a lovely weekend in your shiney clean house. I love when all my floors are shiney clean. Of course, I usually want to kick everyone out of the house to keep them clean ... it's a fine line to happiness, isn't it?

....she said, sarcastically!

I got an unexpected day off today from my tiny job and instead of relaxing, reading my book, baking cookies, meeting a friend for tea, going to a movie, getting a massage or manicure, going to the library, surfing the internet, sparking up a storm......
....I cleaned my entire (small) house-
top to bottom-
2 bedrooms, three bathrooms, kitchen, living/dining room-
vacuumed every room, washed every floor.
I even washed down all the kitchen cabinets and some WALLS!!!
I swept off the front porch and threw away what was left of the wreath and Christmas basket that was out there.
Oh, and I went for a one hour walk in the sunshine after lunch.
My back is killing me.
I'm too old to clean my own house.
I had a cleaning lady for the last 15-20 years but once I retired I couldn't justify the $. My house looks nice and shiny, though.
I think I'll take a long hot shower and go to bed.

Way to go, Elizabeth! It feels good to have cleaned. It does not feel good to clean. Its funny, i just gave up my cleaners, too, so I have been overwhelmed with taking care of it all, too. I just went around my kitchen and did the cabinets last week. They seem so clean now!!!!

You may have finished the day tired out, but what a great feeling it is to wake up to a shiny clean house! emoticon

BTW, 'Heavy Cleaning' is available as a cardio option on SP fitness tracking. Little me burns over 300 cals for 2 hours of heavy cleaning.....I've even worn my HRM to verify, and it's true...track it baby, track it! emoticon (those are feather dusters, not pom poms!!)

no headaches!

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Thank goodness, my cold seems to have finally cleared up, after over two weeks, and my headaches have not come back.
My doc had me stop the ibuprofen that I've been on for a few years, since my knee surgeries, so I'm a little achy but it's tolerable.
I'm enjoying my new workout regime- less cardio, more ST- and, though the scale hasn't changed yet, I'm confident that this is what I need to get my metabolism up there enough to get things moving again.

On a different topic, it seems like companies are using the bad economy to squeeze every drop out of their employees. I had dinner with an old friend who has worked where she does for about 15 years and, while they have only laid off a few people, she's had no raises for 2 years and only 2% this year. She's a 52 year old single mom w/one in college and one in HS- soon to go to college. The worst thing is, though, they keep giving her more and more responsibilities- so some weeks she's working 50-55 hours. She can't really say no- she's afraid for her job. That is terrible. She used to work out a lot but now can barely squeak it in so she is so stressed out, drinking too much and gaining weight!
I feel so bad for her.
Still no emails from SP for me today- going on a week now.
Have a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat day!

    stress does not equal fat.
there are many alternative responses to stress:
let it go
the first sign of a mental break down is thinking our work is terribly important
trying to please everyone will only ensure YOU are not happy
what is the worst thing that could happen
you will survive
there is life after a job that is killing you
chose life that you may live

Glad you're feeling better and finding your new workout agreeable, sometimes a positive attitude is the only way to make that scale move!

As for the work issues that your friend is having... I can honestly say that she's not alone. MOST people I know around here are receiving less and less in compensation and benefits from the companies they work for while being piled with more and more work due to layoffs. It's a bad situation but your friend can at least find peace in knowing that she still has a job and better times are coming.

So pleased your headache has cleared up Elizabeth.

Regarding jobs, the situation is exactly the same in the UK. Most of our call centres seem to be in India and our goods all come from China! Everybody is just holding on to their jobs if they've got one at all. Glad me and DH run our own business and at least we are providing part-time work for four ladies even if we're only just making a living ourselves.

YAY FOR NO HEADACHES!!! When you have a headache, the rest of the day just sort of goes down the toilet doesn't it?

I'm sure this new workout routine is just what you need!

I just keep hoping that the economic situation can't get any worse...and then it does! We've got to hit bottom at some point, right? While I don't actually work outside the home, I do know how bad things are getting. My husband is expected to do more..but not that much more, since he's a union guy! The businesses he delivers to are all feeling it and many of them are closing.

All we can do is all we can do....have a great day!

    Glad you're feeling better, Elizabeth.

On the job front, I'm in the same boat as your friend. This is my 3rd year with no raise and more responsibilities. If I quit, they're confident that they can always get someone else who needs a job to take my place. It can be very discouraging.

My best to your friend.

And you, of course!

So happy to hear that you are feeling better. I was down myself for a couple of days, but nothing as bad as what you were having to endure.

I hate hearing stories like what your friend is going through. It really sucks and makes me wonder why this great country of ours can't seem to get it together. The greed is rampant and there is no one minding the store. It is true, we need help! Stop farming jobs out to foreign countries just because labor is cheap. How will we ever recover when no one wants to stop the bleeding in our own country?

still no sparkmails

no team updates.
no daily spark.
no recipe of the day.
no motivator of the day.
no notification if someone sends me sparkmail.
SP doesn't care.
Yahoo doesn't care.

    Hi everyone

I got this one from Spark guys blog yesterday. An e-mail with a link.
It seems as they are working on it, and struggeling. Keep believeing, I think they will fix it.

E-mail issues known.
In case you haven't received SparkPeople emails in the past week, we wanted to let you know that we are aware of general email problems. Overall our biggest issue is with Yahoo Mail. They have acknowledged issues on their site, and this is affecting other sites in addition to SparkPeople. We are working very hard to get all emails going again, and will post another Announcement here when we believe things are fixed.

Thanks everyone for their patience and support of SparkPeople!

SP says it's a Yahoo problem,
for the thousands of us who are not getting our SP emails.
We need to complain to them, which I did.

I bought the Spark book (2, in fact).
I read the book (wasn't impressed).
I passed the book on to a friend I'm hoping to Spark up.
I did all those bonus point activities.
Now I need someone to invite me to join the private Spark team-
were there directions for doing this at the end of the book?

I may post my numbers later today, but, to summarize,
I worked out a bit less than usual this week because I had an extra Lucy day and a fun road trip w/DH another day (only 300 fitness min).
My calories were very consistently around 1450.
My waist (my only measurement) is the same 34".
I weighed the (apparently set in stone) same 167 AGAIN today.

The sun is shining in RI today and we may hit 50 again! emoticon

I want to get the book! I saw it at Sam's Club and was so tempted, but I usually have to talk myself into buying 'extras' with a few more visits. All in all, your week doesn't sound like it was half bad! Kwowing you didn't work out as much and MAINTAINING your weight and size are nothing to scoff at. You'll get past this. Everything happens in its own time, so don't get frustrated!

You are awesome and keeping the rest of us going! (And Lucy time is TOTALLY worth it, right?)

Hi Elizabeth. Where did you get your Spark book from? If you ordered it over the internet you have to put your order number in somewhere but I can't remember where. Also on a Spark Mail I have, Nicole says "People who purchase the book after today will also receive access to this site by using the code on page 221". Hope this helps!

Hi Elizabeth, you should have gotten an email inviting you to the Spark Team. Mine was from Nicole's box.

My waist is 34" also! I just measured this morning for one of my challenges. My weight also hasn't changed since New Years. Hoping this month will be different!

As long as we are taking our steps to be healthy, we should be proud of ourselves!
