A first for me today

Saturday, December 17, 2011

In 42 years of marriage today was the very first time I have ever gone alone to pick out a Christmas tree.
Actually, the professor came with me but he waited in the car.
I went to a local produce market that was offering a delivery service ($10) which worked out well for us so I just did it.
We have it set up but not decorated yet.
It's perfect!
Busy, busy, busy!

Hey the tree is a first, very cool, but I want to congratulate you on 42 years of marriage. Woo Hoo for all of us that are hanging in there through thick and thin. It sure is worth it. My husband and I celebrate 40 years on Jan. 8.
Merry Christmas to us old married folks. LOL

    wow, new tradition?
I am lucky and don't have to decorate at all anymore. I made a bunch of things for the kids house and when we arrive everything is all set up!

This year was the first time I decorated our tree without the help of my kids. They ar getting older.........guess we gotta embrace change, even if it's uncomfy at first. Way to go on getting your tree! PS, who is the professor?

Bordering on child abuse?

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Would you look at what poor William has to put up with just to get to play with his big sister Lucy:

The look on his face is priceless, isn't it?

No wonder second children become such resilient people! emoticon

BTW- after bragging about sleeping TEN hours the other night,
I have been unable to fall asleep the last few nights- laying there for hours for absolutely NO good reason. emoticon

Good night!

Hope you have some better nights soon, Elizabeth. I know it can be miserable laying there awake knowing you're going to be tired the next day.

Sending sleepy wishes your way!

Too funny. When my grandson came to live with us he was 14 months old. His two aunts (my youngest daughters) doted on him...but they also loved to enjoy themselves at his expense. Once they dressed him up in their baby dresses, took loads of pictures in different outfits, and made a scrapbook. They intend to share it with his first girlfriend! emoticon He has no idea what is waiting for him!

Whew!

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

I just came from the gym, where I worked out with my DD, Mimi, 24, about whom I have blogged many times. emoticon

About a year ago we joined a 24 hour gym together
(I switched from a gym I loved because she was more comfortable at the smaller new gym)
as I had become concerned with her slowly increasing weight. emoticon

We worked out together quite a bit at first and even shared a personal trainer for a while (for which I caught a LOT of flack from DH as we cannot afford such luxuries- but I wanted Mimi to learn proper techniques and be challenged). emoticon

Well, due to my hip issues, among other reasons, I haven't worked out with Mimi in maybe 3-4-5 months and I gotta tell you-
she kicked my arse all over the gym!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am SO happy and proud of her- and, yes, I told her so repeatedly.
She was glowing with the compliments.
Proves once again that is not all about the number on the scale -her wt hasn't changed much at all- she is in the best physical condition of her life.
I'm going over to Facebook and post on her PT's wall now.

Busy week ahead!

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Glad I enjoyed a quiet day (?) today as I have a busy week coming up, as I'm sure many of you do.
Today I tried to sleep in a bit but our smoke detector started chirping (low battery) about 5-6 a.m.- we keep the heat on 55F at night and DH is too deaf to hear anything so I tried to ignore it but slept fitfully after that.
I read the Sunday paper
(I feel sorry for people who do not indulge in this luxury),
then sorted through my purchases and started wrapping.
emoticon emoticon emoticon
Then I splurged on a cup of coffee
(a weekly indulgence as I like a lot of cream)
on my way to the gym for a serious one hour ST session-
including 10 minutes playing with my beloved kettlebells. emoticon
(easing back into my fitness routine after a forced rest period caused by a bout of painful hip bursitis).
When I came home- surprise!- my grandbabies William and Lucy were visiting for a few hours while their parents got a few things done without the kids. emoticon

Tomorrow my wonderful DIL (a middle school English teacher) has parent-teacher conferences so we are babysitting 11-5, when my son will pick them up.
We have them on Thursday instead of Tuesday this week so I'm working with the professor on Wed, Friday and Sat AND hosting my book group on Wed. night.
We read 'Elizabeth Street' by Laurie Fabiano,
about the Italian immigrant experience, and it was a FABULOUS book.

See what I mean about a busy week?
I better get me to bed soon.
Have a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat week, all!

emoticon

Also, I was just checking out kettlebells the other day. Not sure if I'm ready to tackle them yet.

Chopping wood at 97!?!

Friday, December 09, 2011

You read that right! emoticon

My dear elder care client, a 97 year old retired history professor, still uses a bow saw to cut up wood.
He needs my help to pick up the 4-5' logs and get them up on the sawbuck (I think it's called) so he can go at it with the saw and cut them into 12-14" pieces for the rarely used fireplace.

He loves to do this so much- has been handling wood since he was a boy growing up in Maine and upstate NY.

It makes me happy to see how happy it makes him- despite freezing my fat arse off and getting a bit dirty.

Have a grrrrreat weekend!
