Will is a cutie for sure.

William sure is a cuttie....what a smile. Gosh I just saw here at the kids house one of those "jumpy chair" things that both the grandkids played in while babies....they were going to get rid of it as they say that two children are enough......hum.
Enjoy!

Pessimism alert!

***DO NOT READ THIS BLOG IF YOU'RE ALL SPARKLY TODAY AND DON'T WANT TO SPOIL IT!***

So, I was thinking about Oprah's struggle with her weight over the years.
She certainly looks beautiful and happy right now.
I am very happy for her and love and admire her deeply.
But, with all of her resources or access to them- personal aides, one on one personal trainers, multiple gyms at home(s) and work, dietician, chef, massage therapist.....
Why is she still overweight?
What makes me think I (an average retired 59 yr old who shops, cooks, cleans, works part-time, has the normal stresses of life, struggles with my bills, etc.) can ever lose weight and keep it off when even Oprah, one the richest women in America, who has publicly professed that very same goal, cannot seem to do it?
I know, I know, I know- we should never compare our journeys to others.
I'm just saying...
emoticon

P.S: To clarify, I am in NO WAY criticizing Oprah!
My point is - no wonder I'm struggling- EVEN OPRAH can't do it.

I just love your blogs! Even if it wasn't meant to be funny, I smiled anyway because I have had that same thought many times. I'm still nine pounds heavier that I was last summer. Sometimes, it seems the harder I work, the less impact I have on my weight....go figure. It seemed like I get to a certain weight, then tell myself I look fine and start slacking off. With me, I know for a fact, there is no slacking off. If I don't watch my portions and exercise at least 5 days a week, I am going to gain weight. I'm slowly starting to change my life enough that exercise is just part of it. Portion control is another story. Thanks for sharing this blog Elizabeth!

I totally understand your thought and frustration. We are in the same boat together. She should be smaller and fit. But we need to turn it around to positive thoughts which I do everyday by going to the gym for myself. Amen!!

"***DO NOT READ THIS BLOG IF YOU'RE ALL SPARKLY TODAY AND DON'T WANT TO SPOIL IT!*** "
* That's why i title blogs like that that i write "The power of negative thinking.

It's a priority for you. Having millions of dollars and endless resources is as much a burden as it is an advantage. The person who is out of work has an easier time scheduling exercise and shopping efficiently.

For her, it's always seemed a goal. Not a priority, not a part of her lifestyle. Just something she could do when she wanted, but didn't always have the time or energy to do. I don't know though.

I've seen Oprah super skinny back in the day when aerobics were the rage, I've seen her ballon and go back again.
Each of us is different and you've got to want it!
I think despite her weight issues she's relatively healthy and hey...she's human and she's not afraid to share that.
Isn't that why she's loved by many and why she has megabucks?

I think some people are not built to be skinny. Oprah I think has found peace in her journey as Debbie said. She's not morbidly obese and is in great health. I don't see big rolls on her either. I think she's ok with how she looks.

I am Queen of comparing my journey to others :) I know I need to learn how to knock it off cuz I sure let it defeat me sometimes. The worst is watching biggest loser! I know they have hours and hours in the gym butt......
I know for me I hit a lot of emotional roadblocks (maybe excuses) when I start attempting to lose weight. I wonder if it is the same for Oprah. Some people just have that drive that makes them be able to stick to anything, I fee like I stick to something for ages and never see any results. I also manage to gain back everything plus some when I have been successful.....grrrr why do I do that? After my first child I worked hard and got down to 125, not here I sit 10 years later at 175. Why can I not just stick to what worked for me then?
I sure wish I had a fraction of Oprahs money, then I could pay someone to physically follow me around 24 hours a day and knock my hand away if I am about to eat or drink something bad for me :) and a personal chef? Come on, how nice would that be!?

Fun with family

Monday, May 23, 2011

One good thing about entertaining people with toddlers in tow- they don't overstay their welcome! emoticon
My son Pat and my wonderful DIL, Jean, brought Lucy, 2, and William, 6 months, to dinner and my older son, Chris, the world traveling yacht captain, was here as well, along with my kooky but lovable DD, Mimi.
It's the first time since Christmas we have all been together and it was very relaxed and informal and just plain old fun.
Lucy usually goes to bed at 7 so they left around 7:30 and Chris left a half hour later.
It was just a wonderful simple family evening and for that I am so grateful.
On a sad note, another of my old people went to the ER today. He hadn't been feeling well for about a week but getting by alright.
Well, today he went downhill in a hurry and it took 3 of us to get his shoes on and get him into his daughter's car so they could take him down to get checked out. He's a sturdy old Yankee,a retired professor but he is 96 after all, so one never knows when his time will be up.
G'night, peeps!
I have had an eventful day and have to get up early for Lucy and William in the morning.
emoticon
PS- it just occurred to me- how little it was about the (delish) food tonight and how much it was about just being all together again!
