Goal results 2/1

1. Less time on my computer and iPhone: The timer thing worked to help me gauge how fast time goes by when I am online. But I spent more time than allotted in the morning. I definitely have room for improvement in this area. Will work on it today. Maybe the thing to do is allow more time in the morning and less later in the day.

2. Track all my meals and measure portions: Did well with both! :)

3. A workout every day (other than walking): Took a walk AND the JM 30 Day Shred again! :)

All in all, I did pretty well. Let's see how I do today! I am planning a trip to the gym later this morning if the weather cooperates.

How I did with my goals (1/31)

I decided to blog every morning about whether I accomplished my goals for this week the day before instead of at the end of the week. That way, I won't forget anything and I can see my progress from one day to the next. So, without further ado:

1. Less time on my computer and iPhone: I did alright on this yesterday, but I could do better. Today I decided to set a timer for my computer time for three times a day, 20 minutes each time. This is to coincide with tracking my breakfast, lunch and dinner.After the timer goes off I have to get off the computer. :) Yikes, I have 6 minutes left!!

2. Track all my meals and measure portions. I tracked all my meals. I did not measure.

3. A workout every day (other than walking). DH, DD and I were all dressed for the gym, stepped out to go to the car and saw that parking spots were very slim and there was supposed to be an ice storm last night. (We only have street parking, which STINKS!) Decided to come back inside and forgo the gym. DH played with DD upstairs while I did Level 1 of Jillian's 30 Day Shred. So YAY! Goal accomplished there!

Will update how today goes in the morning! Have a great day, all!

    I spend a ton of time on the computer too....I know I would get very angry at my timer very fast if it beeped when I still wanted to hang around online!! Good luck!

Computer and iPhone are ruling my life

Not a whole lot to say. I seem to have lost my "spark." I will get it back, I know. A healthy lifestyle takes dedication and consistency. I must work on it and stop being lazy and using winter blahs as an excuse.

This weekend was a little ridiculous. Yesterday's lunch was - ready?- a greasy burger, greasy fries and a milkshake. Calories? No idea. Probably more than I need for an entire day or even 2. Last week I barely worked out because of the snow. I could have found a way to exercise at home by popping in a DVD, but I'll be honest: When little one was napping, I was sitting on my butt on the computer.

On Saturday I did finally get to the gym. They launched a new release of combat. It was so fun and intense! Great workout! Oh yeah, my HRM needs a new battery so for the foreseeable future I do not have the capability of tracking the calories I burn during my workouts! Also annoying.

So, Sparkfriends, I am setting a few mini goals for myself this week:

1. Less time on my computer and iPhone. They are seriously taking over my life and I don't like that. I can come here to track my food/exercise and check in really quick with blogs, teams etc. But I do NOT need to check facebook 10x a day. Really. I am not going to completely turn everything off, but I think an hour a day max is a reasonable goal. Is anyone else out there kind of addicted to their phones, FB, etc.? Sometimes I long for the days before cell phones. I don't know. That is another blog topic I guess.

2. Track all my meals and measure portions. Seriously, why why why is this so hard? I used to do it all the time with no problems.

3. A workout every day (other than walking). If it snows or something and I can't get to the gym, a DVD it is, even if it is just a 10 minute workout.

There it is. I am putting it out there to help me stay accountable! I will report back how I do on Friday!

    You asked yourself, in your blog, why it's so hard for you to track meals and portions when you've been great at it in the past. Having been there, I can tell you: it's the the back of your brain it's saying maybe if you don't track it, it doesn't count. In other words, it's your food monster trying to trick you into not being accountable. Not tracking can lead to denial, so force yourself to track it! I get back into gear by promising myself I can eat anything I want as long as I track it first. 90% of the time, after looking up the calories, I don't want it anymore. Good luck!

    I find myself spending a whole lot of time on SP. I love to read everybody's blogs but it takes so long. I'm going to have to set myself a time limit as well.
You've got great goals for the week. Have at them.

Too much munching yesterday

So yesterday wasn't the best day in terms of my eating. Only tracked breakfast. I really should go back and track the rest of my food if I remember it. My meals weren't too bad, it was the silly snacking. I kept eating graham crackers and peanut butter. I ate too much PB yesterday for sure. I usually have 1 TBSP a day with my breakfast and on rare occasions I would have another TBSP with an apple or something. Yesterday it is all I wanted to snack on. It was emotional eating I think.

I also skipped the gym. When I am REALLY just not feeling it, I give myself a break and don't go. It happens rarely enough that I don't beat myself up about it. Usually it is that I WANT to go but circumstances don't warrant. Anyway...I did take my daily walk, but that's it. Today we have SNOW so it looks like I am not going today either. Bah! I hope the little one takes a nice long nap today and I will bring out JM 30 Day Shred and let Jillian kick my butt.

I am vowing to stay within my calories today and track everything.

    I had an emotional eating day too. I stayed within my calories, but that doesn't mean my food was great nutritionally. But today is a new day!

    I did too much munching myself yesterday. This week the PMS monster is just huge. I am going to be better today.
A walk is great! Some days the gym is just too much to handle. It always is for me which I why I workout at home. The people just drive me crazy.

Surviving winter

Lately I have been wondering why I left Phoenix. is cold here. It has been mostly in the 20s with threats of snow coming this week. Although today it is supposed to be in the 40s! We had a couple of days like that last week and it felt like spring. I am looking forward to getting out while I can. I also noticed that it is getting dark a little bit later. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Soooo looking forward to spring.

Yesterday my friend came over with a wonderful surprise for us...a little winter hat and mittens for Laila that she knitted. They are so adorable, and I can't wait to put her in them. Hopefully we will get out today for a nice walk.

Laila has a little tummy bug. On Sunday morning she threw up a couple times. Then seemed fine after lunch. Yesterday afternoon she was very fussy and not throwing up, but the other thing. So I need to call the doctor later this morning to see what I should feed her.

Had a short workout yesterday - just walking at the highest incline and jogging on the treadmill. Lately I haven't been pushing myself or breaking too much of a sweat on the machines. I think I am just really bored with them and not motivated. Need to go back to my classes. I had to miss Body Combat Saturday and last night, but hope to go on Thursday if it works out.

One thing that helps to make winter more bearable is soup. Last night I made a great soup for dinner. I threw it together into the crock pot at 4 and it was done by 8. Delish. Thank you, Real Simple magazine!! Here is the link for anyone who wants the recipe. I had to use regular potatoes instead of sweet and omit the black beans because I didn't have those ingredients. I also added a TBSP of brown sugar. Yummy!

    For Laila, try rice, applesauce, bananas and lots of water. Pedialite if you think she's dehydrated (dry lips). She needs a bland diet. Yogurt with active cultures will help return her system to normal after the vomiting and other thing stops.

At least you got a workout in. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get to Body Combat on Thursday. I know how you look forward to it.
That soup/chili sounds really good. I made chili yesterday, too. It really does hit the spot on a cool/cold day.

    Oh dear, I hope Laila recovers from her bug quickly, and is feeling better soon.

I love, LOVE, soup, and I have been surviving on it with the ridiculous cold we've been enduring here (-16 degrees yesterday--ouch).

If you're not feeling the machines, can you try some dvd workouts with the classes you enjoy? That may help sustain you when you're not able to get to the gym. I'm sure Laila would enjoy working out with mommy, and it will be a riot watching her try to keep up.
