Happy Monday, SparkPeople!
I hope all of you had a nice weekend! I am planning 2 visits to the gym today. I did not go all weekend, so I want to make up some time. :)
I have no idea how many calories I consumed yesterday. Dinner was around 450 calories. I had a small breakfast (mini pancakes with almond butter and milk) but for lunch I did not really have a meal, just tiny bites of various foods, which I know adds up. I went to the The Metropolitan Cooking Show in D.C. where I sampled an assortment cupcakes, cookies, jams, nuts, BBQ sauces, marinades and various other random foods. It was fun but very crowded and people were ridiculous — cutting in line and shoving people out of the way for teeny samples of food like they will never eat again! It is funny how crazy people get when something "free" is being given out.
Rachael Ray, Paula Deen and Bobby Flay also were there, doing cooking demonstrations and signing books. You had to buy separate tickets for those events, which we did not do. We saw a bit of Rachael's presentation on the screen. There were also some gaps in the curtain sectioning off the area so I took a quick peek. Surprisingly the show was not sold out...lots of empty seats in the back. You would think they would have tried to sell those seats last minute at a discounted price. In any case, it was cool that she was there. At one point, just as we were sampling some cakes from a bakery based near Atlanta, all of a sudden Paula Deen walked past us with her security people and went into the bakery's booth. Within a split second, a huge swarm of people had gathered there, with cell phone cameras out. We ducked out of the crowd and got out of that area fast. LOL.
I feel much better about my eating plan for this week. We went to a produce market in the suburbs where they sell beautiful looking produce for great prices and stocked up on lots of fresh fruit and veggies. Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, grapefruit, mangoes, clementines, grapes, pears, kiwi, a ginormous pomegranate, and probably some other things that I am forgetting. They sell mostly produce but they also have a good selection of European foods. I don't know why we do not go there more often. It might become a regular grocery stop for us after Trader Joe's, which is not always the best place to buy all your fruit and veggies.
Well, I am off to feed the baby breakfast and then to the gym we go!

I've realized something about myself. I am a morning exerciser and if I miss a morning workout I lose my groove. I tell myself I will work out later, but about 70 percent of the time I don't. I want to figure out why that is and change it.
Yesterday my DH saved me. I did not go to the gym in the morning because it was dreary, rainy and cold outside. And since I walk there with Laila, it wasn't an option. It continued to rain all day so I assumed I was not going to go. But DH came home from work early - with the car! - and dragged my butt to the gym in time for 5:00 Body Combat. When I got there, a surprise was in store for me. The usual class was not going on. Different instructor, different music. I walked in with a perplexed look, and one of the other girls I often see in the class waved me in. "It's still kickboxing. It's fun. You'll like it." OMG it was so much fun!! The class waskind of a fusion of kickboxing and zumba. It was called Cardio Kickboxing and it was a killer workout. Constantly moving, jumping around, fast-paced, high impact. The instructor had so much energy! I loved it. My usual class will still be there on Thursdays. This was just something they were trying out - a special engagement of sorts. The instructor is a personal trainer at one of the other locations and he also teaches the class there. They told me they are trying to get him to teach at our club too. Would be cool! I love it when they offer fun new classes. I get stuck in a rut sometimes.
So glad it is Friday! Looking forward to watching What Not to Wear. Ah, the life of a mommy. :)

Happy Halloween everyone!
For the first time in my Halloween life, I will not be giving out candy to the trick-or-treaters. I had intended to buy candy, but last week I was at Kohl's and they had these cute little play-doh packages for Halloween as well as mini card games. I decided to pick those up instead. I hope I have enough, and I hope I don't get any teenagers because they WILL be disappointed.
I also don't have a costume for my little one. I decided that she did not need one because she won't be trick-or-treating and therefore it did not make sense to spend money on a costume that she will not wear again. But now, as late as it is, I am regretting my decision. There will be fun events going on this weekend for the kids. Plus, since she IS walking now, it might be kind of fun to take her trick-or-treating (but give away the candy, of course). I have a couple of ideas. She has a tutu, a white onesie and some pink tights, so she could be a ballerina. We do not have the shoes, though, or anything else to complete the costume. She also has an Ohio State cheerleader outfit, so she could go as that. I am leaning toward the ballerina. I am so NOT creative when it comes to costumes or anything crafty...
On the healthy living front, I am doing OK but could be better. I have woefully neglected the gym in the past couple of weeks. I do a lot of walking but it is not getting my heart rate up to where I feel like it is a workout. I am planning to go to the gym this morning. Food-wise, I am doing all right, but could cut down on the sweets. Things to work on, for sure. I want to set a new fitness goal for myself. Something new to stay motivated.
I hope all of you have a great weekend! :
