I hate that word, "but." After being on Spark for a while, I told myself that I would no longer use that word. It's the "buts" that held me back in the past. "I want to work out BUT I'm too tired." "I want to eat better BUT that burger looks so good." And so on. At one point early on in my Spark journey, I even looked at what I had written on my page and noticed how many buts I had listed and promptly reworded it, taking that dreaded word out. So why am I focusing my blog on it today? Well, I have to keep it from creeping back into my life. It's trying!!
I want to work out BUT
- it's cold and rainy outside. HELLO Winter!
-baby is not ready for a jogging stroller
- don't want to take her to the gym kid zone for fear that she will scream the entire time or worse, get H1N1
- to dark to go out after DH gets home from work
I usually manage to sneak in a few minutes of fitness here and there, despite the above and today I have the perfect opportunity to work out. I'm all dressed in my workout clothes, the baby is sleeping, Turbo Jam is in the DVD player, BUT the DVD player won't work!
Well, instead of letting this BUT turn today into a no workout at all day, I will go grab my weights and do some lifts. I'll also improvise with some jumping jacks, kicks, punches, running in place in my living room while watching Ellen! Just cross your fingers that the baby continues to sleep for a little while longer.

I get Clean Eating magazine, and in one of the issues they asked for readers to contact them if they wanted to be considered for their recipe testing panel. I sent them an e-mail a while back telling them I would be interested, and today they contacted me to ask if I still wanted to do it. Heck yeah! :) Basically they will send me some recipes that will or might be appearing in a future issue. I will then make a few of them and answer questions about how I liked them, etc. Fun!! Not only will I get some new healthy recipes to try, it will give me an extra incentive to cook at home. I got my first recipes tonight. They look yummy. :)

I'm a big Ellie Krieger fan, so I have been anxiously awaiting her new cookbook, "So Easy." When I pre-ordered the Spark book from Amazon, I just went ahead and pre-ordered Ellie's book too, along with a few things for the baby (cute whale tub!) . I'm sure Amazon loves us this year. Anyway...my book came recently, and at a lower price than when I initially ordered it. YAY!! I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but I've been excited to try it out because supposedly (as the title says) they are EASY and I am all about easy these days. I hope "easy" also means "quick." In any case, I hope to make a recipe or two this week or next weekend. I hope this one is as good as her previous cookbook "The Food You Crave," which won a James Beard award this year. Will update how they turn out.

I received Jillian's No More Trouble Zones from Netflix recently and yesterday I popped it in. What an awesome workout! I couldn't do all the exercises because I have a hardwood floor and no mat, but I attempted to do some of the floor exercises anyway and for the others just did other things instead. Well, it kicked my butt, Jillian style. I felt muscles I haven't felt in a long while - Hello triceps! All in all, glad I ordered it from Netflix and now I want to buy it to keep it around (along with an exercise mat). Laila had fun watching me, well till the very end (cooldown) and then she started to get fussy. I'm taking the exercise opportunities as they come. I truly hope it stops raining in time for my walk to the gym tomorrow morning. Saturday mornings are devoted to gym time. It's my "me" time. And I look forward to it all week.
Have an awesome weekend, Sparkpals!
