Exercise gameplan

Monday, September 14, 2009

Yesterday was a good day for burning calories. DH and I went to the Ravens game (grandma came to babysit). We walked to and from the game - 5 miles total. It was nice not having to fight traffic in a car.

I am forming a plan for my workouts. I have accepted the fact that I likely won't be able to get to the gym every day like I used to - at least for a few more months. But this is what I CAN do:
- Body Combat Monday evenings & Saturday mornings
- Zumba Thursday evenings
- Hip hop cycle or Body Pump Tuesday evenings OR cycle Wednesday evenings
- An evening walk with the fam whenever possible

In addition, I will order Turbo Jam today for workouts at home. I hope it will be as much fun as Body Combat. Probably not, since I will be by myself in my house, but it's better than nothing.

When Laila is old enough to be in a jogging stroller - have to find out when that would be - I will start C25K all over again.

Have a great week, Sparkfriends!
Here's a photo of DH and I at the Ravens game...

I love the picture! You look like you're having fun - very important stuff, that fun! I hope you like Turbo Jam as much as I do...especially the 20 minute part! :) Even if you like the social/group fun aspect of the classes at the gym, I think Turbo Jam will fill a niche.

I always enjoy hearing your updates!! More pics!

Hugs,

If you can get all of that done in your week, even with a new little one, I think I have no excuse for being lazy about getting yoga done at least twice a week...

I've heard only good things about Turbo Jam. Hope you like it too!

The game plan sounds like fun, and you will enjoy Turbo Jam, even if you are doing it at home. It fun and burns tons of calories and Shalene does draw you in, even if she can a little annoying some times!

Hope you had fun at the game and I am sure if you work the DVD to your max - it will give you at least 80% of what you are looking for.

Rainy Friday

Friday, September 11, 2009

Hello, fall! It's a cool, rainy day here. It's kind of nice actually. I feel all cozy and content inside the house. LOL.

I sit here eating pizza for breakfast. Yes, I know...NOT very Sparky of me. Wanna know something else? This is my second breakfast today! I already had a bowl of Cheerios. Didn't fill me up for long. Actually I can consider this an early lunch, 'cause once the LO wakes up, there is no time to eat. The pizza was super easy and quick. Take a piece of flatbread. Put some sauce on it and low-fat cheese. Then toast in the toaster oven until the cheese melts. Done in just a few minutes. No preheating the oven and waiting for it to bake! I like homemade pizza because you can control the ingredients and calories.

Yesterday a lady I know from the gym came by with a gift for Laila - the cutest little baby sweater and hat EVER. She knitted it herself. I had to post a pic. It's so adorable. I love the style of the sweater. Very Jackie O. She will be quite the little fashionista in it. The yarn is sooo soft too. I just love it.

On another note, I can't believe it's been 8 years. Those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 are in my thoughts today. May your families find peace.

Pssh, that pizza sounds very sparky. I'm not one that believes in segregating types of foods for different meals. In any case -- cute sweater set!

I like homemade pizza, you can put whatever toppings on it you want and it cost much less. The sweater is cute. It is rainy here as well but I am inside at work.

Corey makes homemade pizzas with Flatout bread, sauce, cheeze and oodles of veggies. It gets quite drippy from all the vegetables, so my preference is to roll it, let it sit, and then lean over the plate.

Bosu, baby!

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

So yesterday hubby stayed home from work. He was not feeling too well - mostly just exhausted. I took the opportunity to escape to the gym for a little while to attend Bosu! It's been a few months since I took that class; toward the end of my pregnancy I couldn't trust myself to be balanced enough to not fall off the Bosu so I took water aerobics instead. Let me tell ya, that class kicked my a$$! But that was a great thing!
I won't be able to come back to that class for a while - until I can bring myself to leave the little one at the gym's child care. But I feel sore today and I absolutely LOVE it!
Anyway...gotta go. Baby's crying!

Hungry like a wolf

Friday, September 04, 2009

These days, I am sooooo hungry! I just eat everything in sight - mostly junk! Part of the problem is that we haven't really gone out to do a respectable grocery shopping trip since Laila was born. Also, normal, quiet sit-down meals are a thing of the past. Instead, I am shoving something in my mouth here and there, whenever I get a free minute or two in between screams.
How come no one ever tells you these things?

Maybe one of the reasons you feel hungrier these days is you don't have a chance to sit down to eat. Therefore, your brain does not register that you have had a proper meal. Also, you lose track of what you've eaten if you're eating here and there in between caring for your baby.

I feel for you, my friend. I hope things will get calmer and that your daughter will get into some sort of routines as she gets a bit older. Hang in there, as I am sure it WILL get better.

Maybe you can get some friends to bring over food that you can freeze.

Oh Mila, you did give me a hearty chuckle! Firstly, I think it is considered bad form to say anything negative about babies to a currently pregnant person...and secondly, even if you did try and impart some of the more frustrating elements of motherhood - who would believe you?! I'll tell you who - other mothers!

Something that has been true for me - I have learned more about myself from having kids than anything else. The idea I had about motherhood was a far cry from the actuality of it!. I never knew how tired I could be and then have to stay up half the night with a sick baby and still go to work in the morning.

Each stage has incredible joys and stunning frustration! You'll figure it out...because you have to!

Utilize the grandparents.

Oh, yes...everyone thought that since I had 4 kids to chase around that I should be skinny mini...uh nope. Life tends to take over and swallow you whole - while I'm swallowing anything quick so I can get back to life.

I'm constantly still needing to change my plan. The kids grow and their activities and interests change and my time seems to be squeezed more and more every day. It's all about keeping focused on the prize...happy, healthy mommy, which enhances the happy FAMILY. It's all good, it just takes lots of work. You'll get there :)

I have no idea why people don't tell you those things. Earlier this week I held my friend's 5 week old baby even while he screamed a little so that she could actually eat a meal without interruption. Can your husband pick up some of the grocery shopping slack, or is there a time in the morning or afternoon when Laila is particularly quiet when you could shop, or is having Peapod deliver some basics any sort of an option? Take care, I'm sure you'll figure it out. I like Pam's idea about fruit and nuts. I'd also try to make sure to have some milk around and some small cans of tuna or salmon if you like those. Anything healthy that you can just open and eat would probably be good. Hugs.

I ate a LOT of bananas after having each of my babies. Fruit is a quick, easy and healthy fast food. So are nuts and chopped veggies. Keep some bowls handy.

Great quote in my inbox today

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

This was in my e-mail this morning:

"Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world. ”
—Joel A. Barker
scholar, speaker

I don't have a clue who Joel Barker is, but he is ABSOLUTELY right. This quote spoke to me today because it's a good reminder of the importance of having both a goal and an action plan for reaching it. One is useless without the other.

I found this out after wasting years thinking "I need to lose weight, I need to do this or that" but not taking any concrete steps forward. I've learned since that the key to success in weight loss or anything you want to accomplish is to just do something - anything - to move closer to your goal, no matter how trivial it seems. I will keep this in mind as I resume my fitness and nutrition plans.

Getting off the soapbox now! :-)

So true! I like that as well. It really speaks to the need to both plan AND execute. In the military we almost always plan, but sometimes it stop there. The evil Good Idea Fairy embodies that need to not just spout grand visions; someone has to bring it to fruition.
