Finally time to blog

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

Wow, I haven't blogged in a while! I don't have much new to say. My life is all about being a mommy right now. Joyful moments and sleepless nights.

I have been working out here and there. Last week my MIL came to visit so I was able to escape to the gym a few times. I am thinking about finally buying Turbo Jam so I can do some punching and kicking at home! :) I am also making an effort to track my food, but that too is hit or miss. I usually just forget. So, I am trying to keep the 'Spark' alive before the flame runs out and my weight goes up. I know I can do it, I just need to find a balance between mommy time and taking care of myself time.

This coming holiday weekend will be fun! Going to see family. :) Hope everyone has a good week! Feel free to stop by my Spark page anytime and give me a kick in the a$$! I need them!

Balance is HARD. It took me 13 years to even begin to think about taking care of myself. YOU ROCK! I'll bet that Laila would be quite entertained by Mommy punching and kicking the air.

I think you're doing fabulously. I didn't even think about ME or how I was treating my body until after child #4, and then it was BAD and I had so much work to do. Good for you for being conscientious of it NOW and continuing to check in w/ us here...we'll help keep you accountable!! Hugs to you and that beautiful little baby!

I think the fact that you're thinking about it now and already accomplishing what you want to some of the time will really help you to find that balance soon and figure out how to make the healthy lifestyle fit into the new mommy routine. :) *HUGS* LOVE YA!!!

I'm sure you're doing great. I haven't had much spark time either though I have no new baby to blame for it. Sweet that your husband waited til you could work out and I definitely had a little cheer for you when you were cleared to exercise. Have a great weekend!

All clear...

Friday, August 21, 2009

YAY! I am cleared for exercise once again. Last night I went to the gym for Zumba. Gosh, I am so absolutely NOT coordinated. LOL. But anyway, I needed to start with something not too strenuous and this fit the bill. Can't wait for Saturday morning's Body Combat class though!!!!!!

Grandparents are coming over again this weekend to babysit so hubby and I get to go out again!! Maybe we will go see a movie. Or maybe there will be something else fun to do. I also want to get a manicure. I avoided those all through pregnancy because of the fumes. Can't wait to have pretty nails again. Though I must say, it's not easy looking pretty with a newborn. Most days I am in scrubby clothes and I'm lucky if I have a chance to shower until like 10 p.m. Ha ha ha. Stacy and Clinton would be oh so proud!

So excited! Hubby got tickets to the opening Ravens football game next month. I'm not a Ravens fanatic or anything, but it will be fun to go to a game. And I am always super excited to get out of the house!!!!

What else? I've taken a hiatus from my Examiner column since she was born but I am starting that back up too. If you have any fun ideas on topics related to health, fitness, weight loss and healthy living in general, send them my way. I'm having a bit of trouble coming up with something new to say.

I've updated my ticker. Doc's scale Wednesday said 123. So I have a little bit of work to do to get down to where I want to be, but not too bad. I have such a big appetite these days. I think nursing makes me even hungrier than I was when pregnant. I have to be careful and stop overeating so much or I will be back where I started from...I shudder at the thought.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! Enjoy these summer days while you can. Gotta go. Baby's crying...

A little behind, but YAY!!! How has the week + of exercising gone? Hopefully you took it easy and worked your way up to normal exercising again. A lot jealous of going to the Ravens game. Watching a professional game would be fantastic! Of course, I have to travel to Seattle, Denver, San Diego or Arizona to watch one. It'll be awhile. LOL!

Yay! I'm so happy for you that you can resume your exercise regimen! As soon as you got your doctor's okay, you ran to your gym for an exciting Zumba class. I LOVE your dedication!

I hope Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed spending time with the little sweetie pie. You deserve a night out with your hubby. I'm glad you glad you had a chance to spend some alone time with him!

Congratulations on the good weigh-in at the doctor's office. Keep up all your great work!

A little hello

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Howdy Sparkfriends! I haven't blogged in a while...

Things are going well with the new baby. She is such an absolute joy! She is sleeping right now so I have a little time to post a little blog. Not much new to report however. I still miss my workouts. We'll see what the doc says tomorrow.. I am still adjusting to my new life with a newborn. Not much time to eat, shower, SLEEP or catch up on anything else, including Spark. I should be better about tracking my calories - not only to make sure I am not overdoing it but also to make sure I am eating enough. Once I get through my OB visit, I will develop a new plan for getting my daily dose of fitness in. In the meantime, we've been going out for walks in the evening with Laila. It puts her to sleep, which is great!

Before Laila was born, hubby was getting more and more into running. He hasn't been for a run since before July 4 weekend. I know he wants to go running again but it's been tough for him to fit that into the schedule with his work and coming home to a baby. Last night I said to him - if you need to take time out and go for a run, please feel free. He said, "I will wait until you get the go-ahead to exercise and then I will start back up too." I said, "Why do you need to wait?" His reply: "You jump, I jump - remember?" (Titanic was just on TV a few days ago. LOL.)

Looking forward to getting out more in the coming weeks. I'm told the weather has been nice this month. ;)

I'm glad that everything is going well with the baby. It's wonderful that you are taking evening walks with Laila! I hope you and your husband will get a jogging stroller, so Laila and your husband can enjoy an after work run when the baby gets a little bigger. I think both will really enjoy it!

Good luck with your OB visit and resuming your exercise routine. emoticon

Awww, your hubby is a sweetheart! So much of our early life was doing things opposite of each other (he worked days, I worked afternoons) so that we didn't need a babysitter...that I think we both felt like single parents for a few years!

Doing things together (even separately-but together- if you know what I mean) sounds terrific!

Toe tickles to Laila! Hugs to you!

It seems like you are enjoying the new baby and it will take time for you and your hubby to adjust things are different now but as soon as your doctor visit is done he will tell you that you can start back to running and exercising and now with the baby she will enjoy going out with you both running together. Your sleep and in between rest will become more as soon as the baby gets into a routine and it won't be long and I can picture you both running with the new member of your family Laila!

Cabin fever

Thursday, August 06, 2009

I am enjoying my baby girl and being a mommy. At the same time, I am going stir STIR CRAZY in the house! I can't drive. I can't exercise. I can't really go anywhere because it's still too early for her to be around a lot of people. So... I am cooped up in this little house, which by the way is a disaster. There is stuff everywhere. I need a cleaning service or a maid.

I miss the gym so much! I go back to see my OB Aug. 19. At that point, she *might* give me the go-ahead to exercise. I am crossing my fingers that she will. I have not gone this long without working out since before I joined Spark! In addition, I am eating a crazy amount of food. Because I am trying to breastfeed (though I am having issues with milk production so I might need to quit) my body is hungry ALL the time, it seems. I'm not actively trying to lose weight at this point, but I do need to at least eat healthier meals and snacks so I don't pack on the pounds. I need to weigh myself again and update my ticker. Will probably do that tomorrow morning. Then it will be time to face the music. LOL.

Even when I do get the green light to resume my workouts, I will need to figure out a whole new gym schedule. Gone are my morning workouts. I will need to wait for hubby to get home so he can watch the baby. That means I will have to go to the gym in the evenings, which is my least favorite time to go. The gym is always too crowded then. It's hard to find an available machine and the fitness classes are standing room only. Too many sweaty people in one place. But oh well. I will survive. I will just be grateful to be able to exercise again. :)

I was the same way at first. It is very hard to stay home- but before you know it you will be out and about again! And you will wonder where the time has gone. I am already switching out all of Xaviers clothes for the 3-6 months. It's amazing how fast time goes by.
BTW- don't get discouraged with the breastfeeding. At first you will only produce/pump about an ounce out of each... but take a look at your little one- that tummy won't fit much more then that. Keep it up and a month from now you will do 3 ounces out of each then a month later 4 ounces and so on. Keep in mind you will only produce what her little tummy can hold- it takes a lot of patience and can be frustrating- but if you are determined, you can do it!

Oh Mila...I'm getting flashbacks of that...restless feeling. One winter, I was at home with 2 kids (aged 2 and 8 months) 3 dogs (1 a puppy) and NO car. The phrase "losing my mind" took on new meaning! :)

It is a hard adjustment (even when it's for a good reason!). You could always try that knitting thing again! Oh, and I haven't checked your column lately... but...brainstorming ideas for columns might be fun! You could investigate the whole "make your own baby food" movement! Recipes...opinions! Which reminds me that we have a dairy farm around here that sells shares in their cows so that people can buy RAW milk. Many swear by its delicious goodness (and good for you) but I have no firsthand knowledge. (doesn't sound appealing to me!)

Good night!

Karen

I can very much relate to your blog! I'm sure you'll figure out a good routine once you're able to exercise. We weren't allowed to take the twins into public for 6 months after they were born due to weak immune systems...so I can relate w/ being stir crazy LOL!! All the routine shuffling and such is all well worth it tho, huh :) I bet she's the cutest little girl ever!!

Maybe you can get one of those jogging strollers and do you cardio outside with the baby. That way you only need to go to the gym for your strength training.

Good luck, I'm sure you will figure something out.

Sorry that you are going stir crazy at home. I hope soon you will be able to start doing light exercises again. Meanwhile, please take the time to get some fresh air, even if it's just stepping out to your back yard. When your husband gets home at night, perhaps you can take a stroll around the block. You'd be amazed by how a 10-minute walk can give your spirit a wonderful lift.

I am also a morning gym person. My gym also gets PACKED at night. Good luck figuring out your new gym schedule when you are able to resume your exercise routine. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

Laila is home!

Friday, July 31, 2009

I don't think I came on Spark to post an update yet, but Laila is home!! We brought her home on Saturday. It was so exciting!
My mom has been here helping me all week. I'm so grateful for all her help. Next week I am on my own. I'l be nervous at first, but I know things will fall into place. My IL was supposed to come next week, but she has pink eye so she can't come. Ironically, my eye got puffy a couple days ago but it's fine now. It never got red or pink, so I don't think it was pink eye.
I am moving around a lot better now that it's been 3 weeks since my surgery. I can't wait to be cleared for exercise, but that won't be for at least another 4 weeks. I miss it, but I am busy with the baby so I don't know when I would get to the gym anyway. We will have to come up with some kind of schedule at some point where hubby will watch her and I go to the gym and vice versa. We won't be going to the gym together for a while. There is child care at the gym but we want to wait until she is a bit older to leave her there while we work out.
As for food, I haven't been tracking that either. I am trying to breastfeed, so I need to take it about 500-700 extra calories (yikes)! I find that I am hungry all the time - and I eat a lot. Hopefully that will all go to baby and not my hips. LOL. I weighed myself once last week. Scale said I was 7 pounds from my GW, but I don't know if that was real or some sort of fluke that day. I have not weighed myself since. At some point I will and then update my ticker. But b/c I am breastfeeding I will not be trying to lose weight just yet. Hopefully my body will know what to do, give me cues as to when to eat, and take what it needs.
Tomorrow I am going for a hair cut and then to a friend's baby shower. I am so looking forward to it. My hair seriously needs help, and I have not been outside much at all this month. As such, I have a bad case of cabin fever so I can't wait to get out and about tomorrow.
Hope everyone is doing well. I am way behind on keeping up with the message boards and blogs. I'll try to be better about getting on here at times when she is asleep, but lately I've been just so fuzzy-headed. Hopefully things will fall into place soon as we adjust to the little one's schedule (for lack of a better word, though she is setting her own schedule day to day.)
ETA: Forgot to mention that my wonderful husband bought us a new computer last night - an iMac!! I love it! He says it is a post-pregnancy present to me. So, I am having fun playing on it while Laila is napping in grandma's arms. :)

PS - I consumed my extra calories by keeping a bowl of handy to eat fruit in my "nursing station". Three bananas a day did the trick. Oh, and I kept a pitcher of water there, too, to be certain I got the extra fluids I needed.

YAY for Laila being home! I was a nervous Nellie too (who isn't?!) when left on my own, but you'll get into a rhythm that works for you.

I used to sing silly songs to my girls while I did things I wasn't accustomed to doing...the burping song, the smelly diaper song, the I've got to change my shirt again song...you get the idea (or...never too early for that OSU fight song?!!)

You will be fine!

Yay! So glad to hear she's home! Although, the day we brought our son home, he spent the entire night screaming and refusing to sleep. We made it through, and to this day don't have a clue what that was all about, but I remember thinking - I wish I was still at the hospital! At least there, they would take him to the nursery if I NEEDED to get some rest! But, we got through it and now it's just a funny story!
My mom came and stayed for a week when DS was born - it was so nice! But, don't be nervous about being on your own... I found that as much as I missed the help, it was also nice to have the house back to ourselves and start being a proper little family. Kind of a bittersweet thing when she left. And you'll do great on your own!
Take care of yourself and of that precious little girl! Can't wait to hear about her progress - and yours! - in the upcoming months. Being a mommy is the toughest job I've ever had, but it is also vastly more rewarding.
Congratulations and Best Wishes!!!!
