At a new place in my Spark journey

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Now that I'm no longer in weight-loss mode, I've noticed some changes as it pertains to my Spark journey. As we move through different phases in this process — starting out, starting to lose a significant amt. of weight, nearing goal, reaching goal, maintenance and beyond as circumstances change in our lives— it's only natural that things will change in regards to how we spend our time here on Spark.

I still check in with my Spark teams. I am still tracking my food and trying to exercise regularly. I'm logging on here most days, but I've unsubscribed to most of the e-mails I used to receive from Spark. I feel like I've been getting the same articles and polls anyway. I also haven't been keeping up with my Spark friends as much as I was before, and I feel bad about that. I still love you... Please, please continue to check in with me. :) I realize, however, that it's also normal for some Spark friends stop using the site. Some come back, some don't.

Spark has helped me so much, and I plan to continue using it regularly to keep my healthy habits in check. But I just have to strike a balance somewhere in the middle of living on here and disappearing completely.

Good for you! Your success story shows that you made sure you got what you needed from Spark. As an added bonus, you've provided some motivation and encouragement for people including me. I've not spent much time on Spark lately because the kitchen renovation is eating my life. That and I generally don't have a lot of time/patience for social networking sites. On Spark, I like a lot of people (including you) who I think I might be friends with in the real world and I really enjoy the Outdooor People group, but mostly I want to spend my time doing really world stuff with people that I actually know. If you don't spend much time here, maybe I'll catch your column from time to time.

I wish you the best.

Cheers,
Anne

Today is "Wellness Day" at the college. In addition to doing my own presentation about Sparkpeople, I just returned from one on "The Myth of Life Balance". Everything the presenter said was really just common sense, but a good reminder that much of what we do is really either "Distraction and Deception" (projects that take us away from good stuff or the dreaded email bog) or "Waste" (tv, surfing the net mindlessly, etc.). I think some Spark activities can fall into either of these categories, especially after we've become old pros. We need to week out the D&D and Waste and make more time for "Growth" activities. I have a few things I want to get to and I know it means letting some other things go.

I get like...zero sparkmails now. I'm subscribed to a lot of blogs and those are the only spark mails I get except for a few selected threads that I'm subscribed to.

Excited for The Amazing Race tonight!!!!

Sunday, February 15, 2009

Tonight is the beginning of a new season of The Amazing Race. Those who know me here know that the show has been my inspiration from the beginning. What better incentive to get fit than the idea of racing around the world and possibly winning $1 million??

The show isn't a ratings powerhouse like American Idol or Survivor. This makes me nervous that CBS will one day mercilessly pull the plug on it. I have no idea why, but it's seriously the most underrated show, despite bringing in Emmys every single year. Unlike most reality shows that show us nothing but the ugly side of people, The Amazing Race actually teaches us something — the culture, customs and beauty of other parts of the world. It always brings out the travel bug in me.

There is very little scripted drama and backstabbing. Sometimes in the throes of competition things get intense and teams don't "play fair" with other teams. Still, when I watch most other reality shows, I can actually FEEL my brain dumbing down. The Amazing Race is refreshingly different. Hubby and I can't wait for 8 p.m. tonight, and I know there are millions out there who feel the same way. We're not the most vocal of fans, but we're loyal. Are you listening, CBS?

I was thinking of you as I watched the show! This looks to be a great season with some interesting personalities. The first episode, it's hard to really get a good feel for who you do and don't like, but there's always the teams that stand out for some reason. "School of Rock" is one of my favorite movies, so of course, the father/son team with the actor son jumped out at me. Other than that, it will take another episode or two before I know who I'm rooting for. Of course, if YOU were on....

Here's to a fun & exciting season! emoticon

Take Care!

I just finished watching my DVR recording of TAR--I'm also a big fan! Since I'm on a sort of "Amazing Race" of my own with my hubby (following him around the world as part of his job) I can only watch the recorded version using a "Slingbox", because of the time difference. We are BOTH major fans and would love to apply for the show, after we get to our goal weight's--who knows--maybe we can run the race together...
I'm really enjoying this season so far--I think this is going to be a great one. See you on the TAR boards.

I hope CBS will keep producing your beloved show. A few years ago I loved their "Joan of Arcadia", but they cancelled it. They replaced it with "Ghost Whisperer" to attract a younger demographic. I wish there are more people watching quality shows instead of mind-numbing junk!

Ditto!! I feel the same way ~ The Amazing Race is one of my all-time favorites! I have that fears, too ~ that CBS will nix the show. I have my time set for tonights show ~ I'm so looking forward to it! This season, we have a local who participated in the race. He is the first deaf person to be in the race and he lives here in Colorado. How exciting is that? For me, anyway, being a Colorado girl and all. Let the race begin ~ enjoy!

Video of my bosu class ...ROTFL!

Saturday, February 07, 2009

The first time I took the bosu class, there was a woman taping the class for the first few minutes. I remember we had to sign something giving permission to be taped. Well, I forgot all about it until last week when the instructor mentioned we were on YouTube. Ha ha ha ha ha!
Here's the link if you want to see a little bit of what the bosu class is like. I'm the one in the second row in the middle (in the pink). LOL! LOL!

That looks like SO much fun!!! I can see why you like the class - it's very high energy! I had a big grin on my face throughout the whole video - thanks for sharing it. You guys are all so coordinated, honestly...I would probably have a starring role in the "outtakes"!!

That was really cool!

Fit TV

Thursday, February 05, 2009

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. LOL. And I definitely don't have the energy to walk to the gym today. One of those days, I guess. It'll pass. But I wanted to do SOMETHING in terms of exercise because tomorrow I probably won't get a workout in. So...I decided to see what was on Fit TV.

At 8:00, cardio kickboxing came on. I was excited to try it out. What I didn't realize before is that you only get about 17-20 minutes of actual WORKOUT time. The rest is commercials!!! I did what I could to keep moving during the commercial breaks with some extra punches and kicks. Still, I barely got started and all of a sudden, we're stretching. I didn't get my heart rate up enough to feel like I got a good workout. But oh well ... it's better than nothing. I might try to get over my funk and go for a long walk later. I can't wait to do some REAL cardio kickboxing Saturday morning!

Today's workout: 30 minutes, 120 calories.

For a regular exerciser like you, 17 to 20 minutes is definitely NOT enough to satisfy you. And I HATE commercials! That's why I love my TiVo, so I can forward past them when I watch TV shows.

I hope you will have a great kickboxing work out on Saturday morning! emoticon

I have those wrong side of the bed days too! I really do love my bike on the indoor trainer...because no matter how bad of a mood I'm in, if I can go 10 minutes my body chemistry changes and then I'm in for the full 35 or 40 minutes...and I am knocked back to center, mood-wise.

And like you said, SOME is better than nothing! emoticon

Body pump saves the day

Friday, January 30, 2009

I've been blogging about my boring workouts lately, so I wanted to say that yesterday's workout was enjoyable! I went to my body pump class, which I haven't been to in a few weeks. (And I'm feeling it in my muscles today!)

It was great to get back to the gym. It had stopped snowing and the sun was out, so I took advantage of the nicer weather to get out and walk. I am definitely a group exercise person. I am really looking forward to my body combat class on Saturday morning! YEAH!

P.S. Still no Turbo Jam DVDs. :(
