Well, I go to the doctor every 6 months. I had went in September after starting a new lifestyle of eating. I had lost about 15 pounds. Doc was very happy. She wouldn't take me off of any meds but said she would have me come back in December to check things out.
In December I hadn't lost anymore weight but my Triglcerides went way down. They were under the 150 mark for the first time in a long time. Blood pressure was good. Everything was doing great. She took me off of one med and told me to come back in 6 weeks to talk about my progress.
Well....Christmas happened and I stopped following the new eating plan. There was tree hopping, Packer parties, lunch with the girls, busy times at work, blah, blah, blah. All of a sudden my six weeks were up and things didn't look so good. I had gaine back 5 lbs.
Doc runs my tests and walks in the office.
Doc: "Are you still following that new diet?"
Me: "Not really, the holidays and well...you know?"
Doc: "Yep, I know. I could tell from your tests that you weren't doing what we agreed to."
My triglycerides increased my 80 points. My blood sugars were above borderline again. I didn't get to drop any meds.
Well, crap! Who knew that eating well made that much of a difference?! Who knew that not exercising would change things?!
So...to wrap things up. I am back to eating "appropriate things" as the doc calls it. I still haven't had time for the exercise. I am an accountant after all and year end is a killer on time. But I have about another week of crazy hours and then no more excuses. I will be in the gym at least 2 times a week! That is my promise, PLEASE hold me to it!
Please do know that your efforts do make a difference. They may not always be noticable to the naked eye, but they are extremely important. Any time you have that crazy thought that this one time won't matter, or just get through the holidays and then get back on track, remember what 6 weeks of "just this one time" did to me.
