Ideas for SparkPeople

Ideas for SparkPeople

1st: Have a choice of music just on our home page that we can pick from but have a feature to turn it on and off.

2nd: For the SparkStore have Sparks Recipes and a Recipe Box that we could order.

3rd: Have a SparkPeople Cook Book.

4th: SparkPeople Magazine

1. Publisher's Letter
2. Sponsors
3. Health News
4. Exercise
5. Challenges
6. Success Stories
7. Spark Your Life Conventions
8. Featured a few SparkRecipes
9. SparkStore
10. dailySpark
11. BabyFit.com
12. Sparkteens
13. Spark Tips
14. Meet the Employees of SparkPeople

I think this would be a great way to reach out to the public. Seeing SparkPeople Magazine on the news stand. I see people standing around all the time looking at the magazine rack in all kind of stores. I have done this myself looking at weight loss magazines and stories.

Just a idea! Sheila

I like the magazine idea if it was affordable. There are other good ones out there, but I'd subscribe now that I'm enjoying the site. In fact, if I'd ever lose enough weight to properly represent the site, I'd love to do sales work and possibly help get it going. I'd have to learn the new softwares; since I learned ad design in the days when we used cameras and linotype on a typewriter.

I like the idea of a SparkPeople magazine. It could have real people, with real bodies, so we can have a more realistic body image out there.

    Shelia,
Those are some great ideas
Hope they fall into the right hands

I print a lot of recipes that I find on SP,
after I make the recipe once, I decide if
I want to make it again, if so,
I put it into "MY FAVORITES"
if not, it goes into file 13, LOL

they all can't be keepers
thanks a million
hope you will take small bills,
LOL

I like your idea's Sheila............. I have also looked for weight magazine's..... And I usually spend a lot of money on them............ If we had one from Sparks........... that would be the only one I would have to buy........... Instead of buying so many looking for answers in each one............... The other idea's with the music........ that would be awesome.........

I really like your ideas too. I especially like the idea of the recipes and recipe box being offered at the spark store.

I have to agree with MAEWINGS about it getting TOO big. I like the way things are, and am very thankful that we have this free program, but if it gets too big, they would probably have to start charging a membership fee..

All in all, these are very good suggestions. Thanks
Robin

I like your ideas, too, except I don't want the site to become TOO social...cause right now at work, they are allowing us to get onto Sparkpeople and not Facebook, Myspace, and other social networks. With all these new things coming on lately, I'm SO afraid they'll block. I get on this site more at work than at home. I'd like to keep my home life gearing toward working out in the morning and headin' straight to work and then on the site on my dinner break.

Well, Today has been a long day for me been walking every where I have went. Then came home and picked up a big box to move it. So it hurt my back I have been in so much pain all afternoon I can't even move now. The pain just about has me in tears!!

Now on a good note we are going to Cleveland on the 29th and the 30th for the weekend in a cabin. My daughter and her boyfriend are coming with us. I am so happy we haven't been anywhere in three years so it's way over due for me.

Here is the link to where we are going and the photos of our cabin. Can't wait!!

I am recovering from shoulder surgery and understand your pain! The neck strap from the sling has left me in constant pain for the last six weeks. I now have 30 pounds to lose instead of 18. Today is a new day and a fresh start. I just had my sling removed yesterday and I have been cleared to start exercising again!

I pray that your pain will subside quickly and you will have a great time at the cabin.

Reflecting on Georgia Spark Rally

Thursday, April 30, 2009

The Spark Georgia – The Official Team had Sparks very first state wide Spark Rally on April 25th, 2009. The North Georgia Spark Rally was Sparks biggest Rally to date, what a honour. The area that was cover in this event was at West Bank Park- Buford Dam, Sweet Water Park, Massengale Park, Brookfield Park, and McKey Park.

I first saw a article on Sparks where someone had a Spark Rally in Atlanta at the Mall. That is when I wanted to do a Spark Rally to meet my members in person. I thought that the Georgia Team was way to big and I wonder how we would do it. So I had been thinking about this for a week or so. Then Marilyn my Co-Leader called me one day and said why don't we have a Spark Rally for the team. I was all for it then we talked about it and what we need to do to get more people involved to make this happen. We knew we couldn't be every where at once for the whole state of Georgia. So Marilyn and I picked our place to have it at then we ask the team members if they would like to help out and host a rally in there area. This took a long time setting up, finding help, organising, talking to people, planning the events in each area and for Marilyn and I we had to help the other host that volunteered along the way. We had been planning for this Spark Rally for two and a half months.

We had to rent a pavilion to hold all the people. We had a few meetings with our Sponsors to plan this event. We also went around town to talk to people and businesses about SparkPeople. We had a lot of donations given to our Rally. I have to give special thanks to Gold's Gym for they are the ones who told Ellie and I at our meeting what to do and how to go about it to make our Rally a BIG HIT. Kevin ask me what do I want for my Rally and my members. I told him maybe a workout exercise and that some people had talked to me before about yoga and would like to try it. So he said okay he will put together a workout for spark members and that he could get someone to come and do yoga for them. Kevin also told me all about Leanne Albert the Professional Life Coach and her teaching on mine, body and soul. He said this would be great for our members so he set everything up.

Our scheduled events for the day. First thing Ellie and I got to the park early to set up. 10:30 - 11:15 Then we had registration, greet our members, get name tags, purchase raffle tickets, SparkPeople items and group photos. 11:20 - 11:50 Exercise workout and talk from Gold's Gym Kevin Duncan - Personal Trainer. 11:50 - 12:30 Picnic Lunches. 12:45 - 1:45 Walk (about 1.8 miles) this took no time at all. Some of them went around for the second time and for those who didn't we just talked and got to know one another. 1:45 - 2:30 Jeff Albert CPC, Professional Life Coach came and talked about mine, body and soul. So much to take in and learn we all need a life coach with us all the way. 2:30 - 3:00 Gold's Gym Mary Beth Howell came and did yoga for everyone. 3:15 - 4:00 Awards and raffle prizes

We all had a fun fill day with excitement and beautiful sunny day at the lake. It was great!! I got to meet my fellow spark members and make new spark friends. What a great way to meet people face-to-face and get to know one another. Talk about our goals and our weight loss. I am looking forward to having my next Spark Rally. We learned a lot on what to do and not to do. So the next Rally will go off even better. I know we will have all the guys behind us as well for the next one.

All the rally photos turned out great what memories to have forever with new found friends. We will be having our rally in the Forsyth County News. We now have the Rally Walk up on YouTube check it out. Even the kids got in on the walk what a treat!!

I signed up to Sparks in Nov. 2006 when I weighed the most I ever had in my life. I lost 88 pound with SparkPeople but last year I had three surgeries two back and one neck. I was stuck in bed for two months and then I wasn't able to do any exercise for a long time. So sad to say I gained back 25 pounds this made me sick. So having this rally and meeting everyone has put me back on the road to recovery. I can do it and I will do it for me!!

I would like to thank everyone for coming to the North Georgia Spark Rally.

Sheila- Team Leader

North Georgia Spark Rally '09

Woo!! We had a great time at the rally. All of us got to meet one another and make new spark friends with lots of photos. It was great for those who did come because they got a chance to win more raflle items. We had some new people to come to the rally and they are going to sign up with SparkPeople. WOOHOO!!

Kevin Duncan from Gold's Gym came and gave everyone a good workout and a talk on Nutrition and logging in your points. Kevin did a great job we couldn't have had a better Trainer to come to our rally. He is a new member now to SparkPeople. If you live in or near Cumming GA stop by Gold's Gym and check them out!!

Jeff Albert, Life Coach came and gave a talk on mine, body and soul. I think this really helped us all to know we are worth it and we are beautiful on the inside and out. That it is up to us to change. Jeff is Leanne Albert's husband that was plan to talk but she couldn't make it. I really did enjoy what he had to say. You would love to have a session with Jeff or Leanne so stop by and sign up. I just found out Jeff is now a new member of Spark People as well. Jeff - (COACHJEFF1)

Mary Beth from Gold's Gym came and did yoga with our Spark Members. I wasn't able to do them there but I will be doing some of them at home. I think this is something I would enjoy doing. It looked like eveyone had a great time doing the yoga.
