Sparkpeople is a great site once you get the hang of it. A little overwhelming at first. The people here are very nice and helpful. I'm a little shy so it took me a while to get active in the groups. It's good to see you in the group.

We are with you all the way because I too am in it. We know the struggles and temptations you're going through because we have gone through them as well.

You can do this!! If you need to, take it one day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. It will get easier, I know that for fact.

You will be so pleased with yourself when you can say, "I used to smoke, but not anymore."

Hang in there!! emoticon

Great! You won't be stinky any more. Black licorice sticks helped me quit 25 years ago...hang in there...you can do it. emoticon

I celebrated my 5 year anniversary on Sun. of not smoking. its an overpowing feeling not to smoke and have to hide because you're not supposed to be smoking or having to stay out of the hospital because you can't smoke. Or having to go out in all kinds of weather because smoking isn't permited. There's no more stress and a feeling of calmness because you do quit not counting the health benefits from it. I smoked for 34 years and quit cold turkey. I never looked back and even though I gained 10 lbs. I didn't mind because it wasn't as much as I expected. Go for it. I'm behind you. 1 cigarette a day means you're still smoking so look at it that way.

    I hope you succeed.

This is how I looked at it when I quit smoking:

When you are smoking you mind is always consumed about quitting.....and when you are not smoking you mind is consumed about quitting... The only differences are.... it is much healthier to not smoke.... trust me the thoughts of having a smoke get farther in between as time passes.

It has been four years for me and maybe once every three or four months I think about it. It is a very freeing experience. I hope this will help you in your journey to healthy lungs.

If you've really decided that you're quitting because you want to (and not for someone else), go for it. Get the help you need, whether counseling, a quit-smoking program or one of the anti-smoking aids and use it. Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did, but once I got past the several weeks mark, I have never tried another cigarette. I was too afraid of getting hooked again.

Good luck with your efforts.
