Time to be thankful

Saturday, October 06, 2007

Well, the end of another busy week, and a very sad one at that. My cousin's daughter, aged about 12, was found dead in the bath on a school camp. It appears that she may have had a blackout of some kind, slipped under the water and drowned. What a terribly sad and devastating time for her family! My heart goes out to them, and it's reminded me how thankful I should be for every day with my loved ones. And of how I should show them my love and approval.
This week as well, my darling son turned 25, and my daughter-in-law had her birthday the day before his. I hope I was able to make it clear to them how much I love and approve of them. Sometimes it's really hard maintaining a long-distance relationship, especially with someone you don't know very well, and then also with a son who doesn't talk much. My week has been marked by a renewed desire to maintain the relationships and make them grow.
And it ends with a prayer for Patti and her family.

I was so sad to read of your cousin's daughter, but the title of your post said it all "Time To Be Thankful". You have a wonderful outlook! Keep on keepin' on!

Wicked weekend!!!

Sunday, September 30, 2007

Just had the most wicked weekend of all time! Rob booked us a room with a view of the lake at Lake Orta, near to Lake Maggiore. It was our anniversary yesterday, so this was our special treat. I think this must be the best anniversary I've ever had...so romantic!!! Champagne in the room, sipped while we were watching the sun go down over the lake. Even the rainy weather couldn't dampen our enjoyment.
Later we walked down to the village (a typical Italian medieval village with tiny roads and little shops under a portico) and had supper in the best restaurant I've ever been to. We were welcomed with a wine-based aperitif that was to die for, and a complimentary shrimp cocktail. We passed on the wine and opted for water instead as we'd already had two glasses. But we couldn't resist the menu. Pasta to start and then veal escallopes with porcini mushrooms (it's porcini season at the moment). It was fantastic, but I couldn't finish it even though I ate more than I should have. What a pity we had to forego the pleasure of trying the desserts on the dessert cart!!!
Now we're back home and I've decidied that I'm not even going to try and log yesterday's food or today's divine hotel breakfast. I'm going to treasure the memory forever.

Friday at last

Friday, September 21, 2007

Hooray, it's Friday again. Have survived another week! I haven't always been super good, but I'm really proud of myself. I'm getting muscles!! After reading the article about excercise and menopause, I'm even more determined to keep it up. For me, this site is more about excercising than dieting. I do like the calorie tracker, though as it's helped me to increase my fibre and water intake. And I can't believe how good the result has been! I'm telling everyone about the site and trying to convince them to join. Well, here's a toast to all you other Sparkers. May your calories be perfect and your muscles be strong, and may you all have a super weekend.

A new start after a wonderful week

Monday, September 17, 2007

Well, after having a dear friend visiting me for a week, it's back to normal life again. Didn't do much excercise while she was here, and didn't always eat perfectly, but didn't really put on any weight. Yay! Was amazed at how aware I was of drinking water even when away from home. My habits are definitely changing. Now I want to get back to order and routine, and try and find the time to excercise regularly.
Had a fantastic time. Chatted and spent quality time together. I also have some things to think about as she shed light on certain habits in my life. I'm actually looking forward to getting back to full time work as well. Have missed my students and look forward to hearing about their summer adventures.

Up and down

Thursday, September 06, 2007

Bad day yesterday in the sense that I didn't do any excercise. My thyroid medication was increased and I took it on an empty stomach before rushing out the house at 6.45 to take my daughter for blood tests. I think it was a combination of everything that made me feel awful: tired and spaced out at the same time. I'm going to try and remember to take medicine on a full stomach in future. Feel a bit better today, so I'll pick up with the excercise routine again. Other than yesterday, I was coping ok with excercising and having more work to do...so far, so good.
