'Death by chocolate' weekend - and what I learned

Monday, April 25, 2011

Last weekend I gave myself a hall pass to eat all the chocolate I wanted and any or all the stuff I wanted.

You know what I found out?

I found it didn't make me happy. I found that I had less energy and didn't like myself very much.

So, I know now that being on a diet and eating less and exercising more is more rewarding than eating all the chocolate I want.

It not the eating, it is the wanting that is so hard to fight. Now that you know the eating doesn't do much for you maybe the wanting will go away.

Great Job !!

Ain't that just the plain old truth!

Even knowing that, however, I STILL won't allow it into my house because I don't trust myself around it! :-)

I still have a craving for chocolate and other sweets. Thank you for the insight. Perhaps it will help me overcome my weakness.

You are so right. I bought myself one piece of Godiva for my "easter basket" and looked longingly at it for a full day and a half before I finally ate it. It wasn't nearly as good as I thought it was going to be.

That old saying "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" is starting to seem real to me.

Goal #1 status

Monday, January 31, 2011

I did it! I have successfully met goal number 1 of a 4lb weight loss at the end of January. wooHOOO Actually, I surpassed my expectation, by 5lbs - yep, the scale shows I've lost of total of 9lbs for the month.

The goal for next month is to lose 12lbs. I'm a little apprehensive about that - but I think I can do it. In January, I focused on staying within my caloric intake. For February, I am going to continue to work on my caloric intake - and I'm going to add strength exercises.

That's my plan - it's simple.

That's so awesome Maria, congratulations! I bet that feels good. Did you get a jump on the February strength training? It'll make you sore at first, but that pain is quickly worked away each day you keep at it,.

Have a great week!

Goal 1

Friday, January 07, 2011

I am struggling. I am trying to recover from a backslide. I always think I can do this without the diligence that is needed to be successful.

Truth is that you need to be accountable for the amount of calories that you consume in a day. AND you can't calculate it in your head. It is far to easy to overeat if you try that. But, when you see the total in front of you - it makes a difference.

So, I am back for yet another try. And I have mapped out my goals for the next 10 months. Goal 1 is a modest goal of a 4lb loss by the end of January.

...wish me success. Here goes nothing!!!!

So far... ...For now

Thursday, January 21, 2010

So far, I have been doing good on getting my arms wrapped around my caloric intake. I have been having success in staying within my calorie limits. YEH! And I am seeing some results.

I plan to continue to focus on my calories for a bit longer. And when I am comfortable with my eating patterns, I am going to focus on exercising.

I struggle with bringing the two together. I am not giving up. I am just going to break it down into smaller pieces. First food and eating reasonably and responsibly. Then introduce more exercising.

When my schedule allows and when it is available, I do Zumba 3x week. But, I am completely sloughing off on my strength exercises. I have no motivation. I am not sure how to get my spark on for strength exercises.

For now, I am going to recognize I have an issue and somehow come up with a solution.

i'm not sure i could handle my calories without spark :) so great job on that!!! you're right... one thing at a time. zumba is an excellent cardio workout. i found that i actually worked harder at home than i did in class. i guess at home i was free to be me :) and i played all the songs that i liked.

Hi!! Thanks for checking on me this week. I am glad that I got to stop by to visit you!! It's smart to work on one thing at a time. I had exercise covered until my knee got cranky. And my strength training has been a bit lax lately too. Still want to wrap up and read. I will do 20 crunches or some sort of ab thing if you will!! Maybe we can challenge each other.

I do so need to do pushups!!! emoticon

I like your idea of honing in on one strategy at a time...paying attention to calories now and later when you're ready taking a look at exercise. In anticipation of that step it might be helpful for you to think about what types of activities do you naturally enjoy...is there a way to morph them into a workout...? When natural enjoyment and pleasure is involved our workouts have stronger prospects for going the distance...! :-)

Baby steps! As long as you are eating right and getting in some exercise, you should see some progress. I'm really looking forward to trying a Zumba class-I just need my schedule to allow it. Hope to meet you soon!

Sometimes it's hard...

Sunday, January 03, 2010

Sometimes it's hard:
- it's hard to get the energy to do excercises
- it's hard to get the energy, period
- it's hard to controlling my hand from putting food in my mouth
- it's hard making the right choices and sticking with it
- it's hard to find the inner strength

But, I am trying...

I so agree-chocolate has been calling my name all day!! Still, one chocolate covered pretezel is not six covered chocolate pretzels so I will think positive!!

Hope otherwise your day is going ok.
