Wednesday, long day...

So it's Wednesday, around 6am and I have already had leftover chinese food and a cupcake for breakfast. That sounds awful, but the good thing is that yesterday for dinner I did not eat my usual whole portion of chinese, I split it up and was very excited to wake up to chinese food. I like eating lunch for breakfast so that I stay full throughout the day if I know that I'm going to be busy. Also, the cupcakes are amazing, so only having one is challenging enough. The cupcakes are for the high school students at my internship so I have to be careful to not try to scarf them down before eek, 7th period.

Overall things are alright. I have to start doing more overall homework/chores/take on more responsibilities.

Another new start

Hi Sparkers,

It's a monday so this calls for a fresh new start to start eating healthy :) Exciting isn't it.

I'm trying to eat more protein because I am a lousy vegetarian (that eats seafood) and does not keep track of my protein intake. This is why I am going to start tracking my foods again. This morning I ate some weird foods together: shrimp and later I had some hard boiled eggs. I learned that I could not bring hard boiled eggs to work and try to peel them. The whole office thought I had a gas explosion when I did start to peel them. I also learned that I can not just peel the eggs at home because the office will again stink a bit. Maybe I could just put the hard boiled eggs in a salad and cover them with some dressing.

This month I ran my first 5K! I was excited. I basically kept jogging after another jogger. The strategy worked, the jogger in front of me told me that he felt like he had to keep going because I was directly behind him.

The plan for today is to do lots of homework. I took the day off of work to do homework. There's a food film festival at my school today. I wish I could go, the school is showing movies like Food Inc, etc... I LOVE food movies. I enjoy learning about food science and how a bunch of our food is synthetically made. "Leave corn out of this"...

Nevertheless, I have to take this journey one step at a time and not overthink things. I tend to get sick a lot, so if I could make better food choices perhaps I will not get sick as often.

I am planning on getting flavored coffee (mmm caramel) and then locking myself up in a library without internet access.

  I'm right there with you. But I'm finally not eating everything I normally would if I wasn't keeping track of the calories. Keep with it. Baby steps!

    Keep trying -- you're doing step 1 with tracking and it will bring a new awareness.

I find myself wanting something (chips, etc) but can remove myself from the temptation by having some substitute around (Trisket crackers, vegetable strips, baked pita chips...). It's also nice to use whole grain items, like bread or crackers, because they make me full faster and stick with me longer. Try to start the day with high protein, too because they stick with you longer.

Tracking Foods

Hi Sparkers,

Today I decided to log all of the foods that I have been eating throughout the day. When I started putting in the numbers I found that I've already eaten most of the allowed calories for the day. It was a shocker to see how much food I take in, even though the choices that I made were pretty healthy. Since I do not eat meat I always try to make sure that my foods I eat have a high protein content. Overall I'm going to try to make sure that I do not go over (or too much over) the recommended calories for the day.

This morning I went on a bike ride on the Farmington Valley Greenway. It's a really neat bike trail that is paved and takes you through various towns. I had my mp3 on and I found that the ride didn't feel like the challenge that it usually is. Maybe Lady Antebellum can just do that to bikers.

Yesterday when I went to the Big E fair I did not do as bad as I usually do. Usually when I go to the Big E I have a vanilla shake, fried dough from the CT building, sweet potato fries, and some funnel cake. Yesterday I had a chocolate shake (it's just chocolate milk) and lots of buttered popcorn. Nevertheless, I love fairs and always feel the need to have a pet pig afterwards.

The plan for the rest of the day is to visit the parents, maybe hit the gym for a short jog since I have to practice jogging for a while if Im planning on running a 5k, eat dinner, and read articles for school.
