Ending My Second Year on Sparkpeople

December 27 will be the second anniversary of my joining Sparkpeople. Because my large happy family will be here to celebrate that day, it seems that I should be writing my thoughts today while it is quiet!
My original reason, besides losing weight when I joined Sparkpeople was to get healthy and stay off medication. I am happy to say I have definitely continued to accomplish that. However the weight loss this year has been very lacking.
In reading back over some of the things I have written (which I am not very consistent in doing) I have had some great joys, a couple of wonderful vacations, and plenty of really good days. I remember some dear people on here who have given me encouragement and words of wisdom. You are all so appreciated. I have joined some awesome groups and look forward to the 5% Challenge in January!

My goal this year will be to get to "healthy" on the BMI chart and stay there!
My wish for everyone is a joyful Christmas and a healthy happy new year!

October Challenges Continue

I started a new challenge for our great Lemon Team and so far:

Wk # 1 -- plan menus (planned & stuck to 7 days)
Wk # 2 -- 40 flights of stairs (did 48 stairs & 5 days menus)
Adding: emoticon
Week # 3 -- 20 miles (got 18 1/2 miles & 60 stairs & 5 days menus)
Adding: emoticon emoticon
This week # 4 -- log every bite
--cut down on coffee
This week will challenge my honesty for means getting out the food scale and measuring cups!

October is here already?

One of the scary, yet great, things about this web site is the ability to see just how fast time goes by. As we begin a new month and I can see how close I am to yet another Spark anniversary, I begin to panic! Maybe at 73 it's an age thing?
So this morning I am going to list some of the great things I have accomplished lately in my quest for healthy living as a member of this site.

I am still medication free!
I climbed the stairs 6 times every day during September!
I can roll over in bed and feel my stomach muscles kick in!
I bought my first pair of pants in years that doesn't have a "W" in the size label!
I can have lunch with the "girls" and order without appoligizing because I eat different!
I am not at goal but I am closer than I was when I started!
I am thankful to be on some great Spark teams and have wonderful support!

Make no mistake this is a permanent struggle and it is very easy to just forget all the little promises I made to myself but I have found ways to keep going and for that I am forever grateful. The one thing I know for sure after all the years I have spent at the game of "weight" is that for me exercise has to be added into the mix. It is the part that brings the "happiness" factor into my NSV (non scale victory) moments.
I wish everyone a wonderful fall season and for me I plan "to just get out there" and enjoy every bit of it!

Vacation to Sanibel Island

My intention when I began the Sparkpeople plan has always been to find something that would fit into my life and become a part of every day. Last week I was lucky enough to spend time on Sanibel Island in Florida and had a wonderful relaxing vacation.
It just seemed natural to be active and choose good healthy food along with a few treats. The best part was that my swimsuit fits!
Now it is time to be more conscious of the "Sizzling Summer Challenge"! We only have a few more weeks to go. Love you LEMONS you keep me moving!

    I love Sanibel Island. We visit every winter. I love their walking and biking trails. And the beach with all the shells is wonderful!

Sizzling Summer Continues!
