Back to School

So, my daughter went back to school today. UGH! emoticon . Tomorrow, my son starts. I don't like school. Now, I have to get back to my routine. After dropping her off and shooting the breeze with some moms, I came home and jumped on the treadmill. Would have rather gone outside, but the wind is just not cooperating. Ran for 30 minutes, walked for 30 minutes. It was good. After, did some errands: shopping at Ralph's, deli. Then, met my friend for lunch: The Habit. Love that place. I had the grilled chicken salad with honey dijon dressing. (For breakfast, I had oatmeal). We ran to Target to waste some time before picking up our girls. Of course, we got to school too early. Took home 2 extra girls and was met by the other 2 siblings at our house. Their mom had a doctors appointment, so, I was being a good friend. A little crazy and hectic, but the kids had a good time!!

After they left, it was time to make dinner: tuna burgers. They are so yummy. I had that with some snow peas and cucumbers. For dessert, I had my oat bran bar. I might have a grapple (have you ever had those? Oh they are so good. It tastes like a grape, but is crispy like an apple) in a little bit. Then, off to bed!

Hoping to go to the gym in the morning and do some boxing.

Didn't Work Out Today :(

Woke up with the best of intentions. Was supposed to meet my buddies at 8:00 to hike. However, it was so windy that we didn't go. I was too late to make the spin class at 7:30. I was going to go at 9:30 instead. Well.......
DH and I decided to clean out the cupboards. I should have taken before and after pictures but totally forgot. Let's just say that we found stuff dated back to 2004. Uh, yeah we did. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. How embarrassing! By the time we were done, it was 9:45. No spin for me. DH and the princess wanted to try to play tennis, so I tagged along. I think they lasted 10 minutes. Way too windy. At least she's getting back into it. We went into the club to have some lunch: seared ahi tuna with a light slaw. It was really good.

That, basically was the day. Came home, went on the computer, found a training program (thanks SWEETNSKINNY) for my half marathon. I'll see if I like this one better. DH tried to make fresh pasta which didn't work. He'll try again. Instead, we had store bought pasta with clams. I had a bit with salad. Then, because the kids go back to school this week, (UGH), we got some tutti fruitti. I had taro berry with strawberries, almonds and passion fruit poppers. Watched some t.v. with the princess and now, have to get her ready for bed. That's gonna be fun. She's been going to sleep so late. She's already started with the, "My stomach hurts Mommy!" Wish us luck.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, Hoping this is a fast week. Lunches, carpool and homework: YUCK!!

    Sorry you missed getting to workout, but it does sound like you had a nice day. Hope getting the kids off to school went smooth. I know mine were a pain in the rump to get back on schedule.

Glad you found the training program, I didnt follow this one this year (George sends me my "homework") but have used this program in the past! I'm hoping this week is a fast one for me too so heres hopin for both of us!!!

The Last Few Days

The last time I posted was Tuesday. I really wanted to get back into posting every day. However, on Wednesday, we had no internet access which led into mid Thursday. Was I happy? Oh no! I was not a very nice person to Time Warner, but you know what? We have way too many problems with them. They deserved it! Wednesday, I got on my treadmill (too windy outside and got a late start due to the internet) and ran 3.15 miles (using my minimalist sneakers). I then walked for a mile. So, 45 min of cardio. Thursday, I got to take my early spin class and then, got roped into doing 20 minutes on the arctrainer. That's what gym buddies are for!! Didn't do much else during those days. Kids still home from school. I think I did some errands, but you know what? I can't remember!!! Friday, I took an hour cardio boxing class. Love that class. I just love hitting that bag!! Time Warner aggression out on that one!!! DH called and wanted to know if I wanted to meet him for lunch with the kids. Of course we did. He was near Baja Fresh, so that's where we went. He had to order those chips!! That did me in. I was doing so well with my eating. I was good the rest of the day though. Did some errands with my princess: Trader Joe's and then 7-11 for slurpees for them.

For dinner, I made them calzones. Yes, homemade ones!! Cheese, spinach, mushrooms and olives. I, on the other hand, had greek yogurt. Wasn't too hungry, but knew I had to eat something. Then, all of us (6 b/c the oldest was still home) played bananagram. It was so much fun. I think we played around 5-6 rounds.

Today, I took my regular spin class and then, ran to another gym to take my first Zumba class. My DH's assistant just got certified and she was having a free class. Oh my gosh, so much fun. But, oh my gosh, I don't know how to move like she does. I think I need private lessons. One of my gym pals met me there with her daughter and niece. We had a blast!! Came home, showered and then, met DH, princess and 16 year old. (19 year old drove me b/c DH took my car). they were supposed to play tennis, but it was too windy. Instead, went to Best Buy and then, for lunch. Found a new Peruvian place. So good!! After, went to CostCo. Came home, cleaned up the email, and then, went to Fleet Feet. Got a new pair of workout pants which were on sale. Love sales!!

Came home and made dinner: M&M pancakes,, banana pancakes & 3 blueberry pancakes. Oh, and hash browns. I had 1 blueberry pancake and Greek yogurt. Now, I'm typing my blog. I think it's rest time now!!

    You've been doing a lot of fun stuff!! I'm so happy you tried zumba..I definitely CANNOT move like them, but its a blast. You are doing great, and great job getting back on track with your food! Palm Springs here we come!

2012! What will I be doing?

2012 started off pretty good. Took a great spin class on Sunday, January 1st. The instructor kicked our butts. Monday, went on a 2 hour hike. First hour was all up hill, a very steep up hill. The way back down was nice and easy, until we realized that we took the wrong path and ended up at a dead end in a cul-d-sac. We were able to walk to our car via the street. Next time, we'll pay better attention. Today, I took an hour spin class and an hour cardio boxing class. So nice.

Today was the day I started to eat better and so far, so good. Breakfast ended up being a Lunar bar because when I got home, I had to take the dogs to the "dog wash" (that's what my son called it when he was younger and it stuck!). It's hard taking 3 dogs. Thank goodness for my son. Came home, ate my bar, showered and then, went to pick up the princess at her friend's house. Sleepover last night. Stayed there for a bit and then, went to the market. By the time I got home, I was starving. Had a huge salad, tuna fish and brown rice. It was really good. I ate some baked bar-b-que chips when I was done. Later, for a snack, I had some almonds and 2 cuties. Dinner was quinoa, cabbage, brussel sprouts and a slice of tri-tip. For dessert, I had coffee (decaf, of course) and a peanut butter oat bran bar. They are so delicious. I might have an apple a little later, not sure.

I had to decide what I was going to accomplish this coming year. What should I do? My friend Seth said that I should do something that I say I can't do, like train for a triathlon or marathon. Ok, first off, I don't swim. So, Seth said, "hire a coach and learn how to swim. Next year, when we discuss the past year, you'll be so happy that you did it." Well, swimming just doesn't appeal to me. So, I really thought about it and here is what I decided:

January 21st - run a 5K with a friend for Charity
February/March - run a half marathon. Not sure which one yet. Have to find one
May - run a half marathon with SWEETNSKINNY in Orange County. Nice along the beach
June 10th - run Camp Pendleton Mud Run with Seth, his wife, 2 of my boys, my DH and my good friend with her son
October - Long Beach full marathon

Okay, it's there, that marathon is typed. Now, I have to do it. Oy, I can't believe I'm going to do this. I've always said, "No way. I can't do a full. My knees can't handle it." Well, this something that I said I can't do. Seth should be proud. Oh, and that full marathon? SWEETNSKINNY said that she'd do that with me, too. So, now, Aunt Terri, brush off your running shoes. You have to do a half now!!

    Sounds like you've got some exciting events to train for this year.

My swimming is pretty abismal but I took a swim clinic put on by a local city and it helped me get through the short pool swims at my 2 tris in 2011.

I don't know why there aren't more halfs in the area in February and March. It seems like the perfect timing weatherwise around here. I'm doing the Pasadena Rock N Roll mid-February just because I got a good deal and then the Pasadena Duathlon in March - hey you might look into a du, no swimming but definitely a challenge. You run a 5k, bike 15k and run 5k again for that one.

I keep saying the same thing about my knees and a marathon but something about seeing all these other people doing it on Spark, almost kind of puts the idea in my head it might not be so far fetched. I think I'll wait a few years though, I'm in no rush at this point.

    Aunt Terry said (and I quote) "Ummm..I dont exactly remember our deal?!" LOL!! I said ohh i'm sure you will be reminded when she comes in May :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE that we are doing the half AND full together! SO EXCITING!!!! And, I KNOW you can do it.

Merry Christmas Friends

This morning was windy, but it didn't stop us hikers. 3 of my buddies and myself went on a 2 hour hike. The first part was all up hill in the wind. The last part was back down with the wind pushing us. Not sure which was worse, but, it was so worth it!! Came home, showered and took the princess for a haircut (OK, really a trim!). She looks so beautiful! Then, we went to her friends house to trade chanukah/christmas presents. She got p.j.'s and a cozy blanket/pillow from Justice. She's happy. Came home, took my son to get his car, ran to Ralph's to pick up some last minute things and then, took the dogs for a walk. Watched a little t.v. with the princess and then, helped DH make dinner: tri-tip, onion pasta, bread and wine. We actually finished a whole bottle of wine. Lit the menorah and the princess got her present: a flute for her American Girls which she really wanted. She's doing good this Chanukah!!

Now, it's rest and relaxation. I hope all my spark friends are enjoying their Christmas Eve with family and friends. And those celebrating Chanukah, I hope you are enjoying the festival of lights with your family friends. Our family Chanukah is tomorrow! Hopefully, I'll have some pics.
