What A Day!

Friday, December 23, 2011

The day started off great: 10 mins on the elliptical and then an hour boxing class. While I was standing by the front desk and getting ready to leave, one of the guys comes over and gives me a great, big hug. He says, "You know, for someone who was gone for so long, your body looks great!" How'd that make me feel? WONDERFUL! Wish I felt the same way about my body. I guess all that running did my body good.

Got home and ate some breakfast. Of course, I had to go on the computer and that was the end of all the errands I had to do. Got caught up on checking email, reading all the sparks stuff that I never got out the door until I had to take my son to his friends house (which wasn't just around the corner. Wasn't too thrilled about that.). On the way back, I called DH to see if he ate lunch. He had, but he wanted to know if I wanted him to take the princess to the mall. So, had to meet him in a parking lot and do the switfcharoo, Felt like a divorced couple switching the kids for the day. Weird!! Got home and had to bake for my friend: a cinnabon cake. Ate some lunch while it was baking. Then, got a text from my son that I could pick him up from his friend. Back in the car again.

Got home and got my things to go back to the gym to take a spin class. I know, crazy!! Double dipping in the exercise, but it was such a good class. Got home, showered, ate a little something and then, baked another cinnabon cake for the house and to give some away to friends.

Now, I'm sitting and listening to music. Have to put the wash in the dryer and then, wrap some presents for tomorrow (trading gifts with my daughter's friend.).

Btw, forgot to blog about our new addition to the family: we adopted a dog on Saturday from the pound. He is so cute. He's a corgi mix, one year old. Here's some pics of him:

My oldest (21) with the new guy

The youngest boy (16) with the new guy

The one with my 19 year old won't rotate, so it would be weird to post it. Don't want anyone getting a crick in their necks!!

Here's a few pics of my princess with her first night of Chanukah gifts:

All the presents!

What could it be????

Won't rotate, but it says it all: Another American Girl doll!

Rachel and Kanani

And here is what the boys got:

They get money for reading the 5 books and writing a 2 page summary. Aren't you glad you don't have their DAD as a parent??

Looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend.

Until then-

Happy Chanukah to Me!!

Thursday, December 22, 2011

So, I bought myself a present in Vegas and it came yesterday!! I was so excited. I ordered a bracelet with 2 charms: one for my Los Angeles Half Marathon and one for the the Vegas Half. Here it is:

I forgot to upload my pictures of my princess opening her present the first night of Chanukah. We got her an American Doll which she really wanted. Mind you, she already has 4 others, but this one is a character doll which is leaving December 31st. She was so excited. I'll try to remember to upload them tomorrow and post them. She's been happy for the past 3 nights with her presents. Lucky me so far!!

Trying to just get by with the eating until January 1st. I'm so disgusted with myself, but, I"m going to enjoy the holiday season with my family. The one saving grace is that I get to go to the gym as much as I want for as long as I want because there's no school. Yeah!! This week has been good: 2 spin classes, 2 hour hike on sunday,2 boxing classes, ran on Monday (which didn't go well at all) and not sure what's happening this weekend. No classes at the gym, so have to figure out what I'm going to do. Going to try and run again and see what happens. I think I pulled something in my stomach while running the half in Vegas. Hopefully, it'll go away soon!!

Until next time-

I hope everyone has a wonderful Chanukah, Christmas, etc....

I love the style of the bracelet. I didn't get to see which one you picked because I was so out of it that night. What a great reminder of your accomplishments!

Can I tell you that it is kind of a dream of mine to take a couple weeks of vacation and just have a fitness filled time like you are having right now. haha With my work schedule/commute I am so limited in what classes I can fit in, so that would be awesome.

Have a great rest of Chanukah!

Las Vegas RnR Half Marathon

Monday, December 12, 2011

Vegas was fun, the half, well, it could have been better. Saturday morning, I went to my daughter's soccer game. From there, my son took me to the airport to catch my flight. I got there so early: 10:50 for a 12:05 flight. Went through security and got called out. They had to inspect my boots I was wearing. Seriously? It wasn't too bad. At least I didn't have to open my luggage. The flight was packed with runners for the marathon. It was so cool. The girls sitting next to me were running, too, so we talked the whole time. Landing wasn't too great. Very windy and bumpy. Didn't like it at all. Had to concentrate on my breathing so I wouldn't loose my breakfast! Took a shuttle to Luxor to meet SWEETNSKINNY and her aunt. I was so excited to see them. Loved her aunt!! Sat in the lobby for a bit and then went upstairs to put my bag away. Expo time!! Took the monorail to the Venetian (after walking forever) and then, had to ask everyone we saw with an expo bag where to go. No signage, not good. Expo, disappointing. I did however order myself a present: a bracelet with charms from the 2 half marathon's I did. Can't wait to get them. Keep you posted. I finally got to meet SLEEPYDEAN. Unfortunately, she wasn't feeling very well.

One day, I'll look like this!

After the Expo, we headed back to our hotel and stopped for a bite to eat at a Mexican restaurant: 2 fish tacos. Very good indeed. Got back to our room and relaxed.
Sunday morning, woke up and got ready to meet Aunt Terry's high school friend who was also running the half. Headed over to Excalibur and ate at a buffet. Disappointed. Had some ravioli and mashed potatoes. Hard to eat when your race is later in the evening. We decided to walk over to the Mandalay Bay and scope out where everything is. So glad we did. Figured out where to go, where to meet after the race, etc. Headed back to our hotel (so much walking!) and got a banana. Then, got ready!

Sorry it's on it's side, but I couldn't rotate it!

Headed over to our corral. It was oh so crowded. We heard that someone almost got into a fight. Aunt Terry left us and we found our way.

Getting closer to the starting line

We crossed the starting line at 5:58pm. It was going well except for the lady who decided to cross the street in front of all these people. Seriously!!! SWEETNSKINNY stayed with me a bit and then, gave me the ok to take off. And, I did. I was doing good until about mile 7. Quads were cramping up, but, I persevered. But then, a cramp in my stomach. Not a stitch which I can get rid of while running. A cramp. Horrible. Don't wish it on anyone. Had to walk a bit, but, was able to start up again. But then, came back. Let's just say that I did more walking then I wanted to. I really wanted to PR this race. As I was getting closer, I thought, maybe I will. But no, cramp was back again. More walking. Finally Mandalay Bay, but, where was the finish line? Around the corner and then, another corner. Finally crossed the finish line at 2:23:23, five minutes past my first half. I know, not bad, but, I was so hoping to do just as good or better. Got my medal and my blanket, picture taken and food. Then, all I wanted was to find Aunt Terry. And, when I did, I got my hug. That's all I wanted at that part. Found out the SWEETNSKINNY was about a mile behind me. We waited and the wind picked up. My daughter called me at that time:

Found SWEETNSKINNY and headed back to the hotel. We were both freezing and nauseous. Didn't want anything to eat. Just a nice, hot shower. after finding out that room service would take 1 1/2 hours to deliver, we decided to go get something to eat in our pajamas and medals. We earned the right. Chocolate milk and pretzel. Ate about a third and was done. Sleep please. Got into bed around 12:00. Exhausted, but couldn't fall asleep.

Next morning, we went to the Ventian to meet Aunt Terry's friend for brunch. Still not feeling all that great, but the buffet was much better: fruit, egg white omelet, waffles. After brunch, walked over to Caesar's Palace to get my DH some chocolate from a store that we love. Taxi back to the hotel and waited til my shuttle was coming. Back at the airport, got something to eat and then, time to board the plane. DH picked me up from the airport. Got home, unpacked and relaxed.

Now, I have to figure out when my next race will be. Have to coordinate with SWEETNSKINNY. And, I need to get my eating back on track. But, that's another blog!

Until then-

Ughh so sorry to hear about your cramping problems. I ended up with indigestion for the last half of the race. So weird for so many runners to have had issues during this one. But it was quite the experience.

I got one of the last chocolate milks in that little store too. And then ended up waiting the 1.5 hours to get room service. haha

Aunt Terry was great huh? Her "kids" are lucky to have her as a teacher.

It was great to meet you and I'm sure our paths will cross at a local race one of these days. Congrats on finishing half #2!

Chanukah Bombshell Challenge Start

Monday, November 07, 2011

OK, so SWEETNSKINNY invited me to join her in her Christmas Bombshell Challenge. Well, I changed the name to fit my needs!! I thought it would help me out. I'm not putting a number on this, just to get back into a pair of jeans I bought & haven't worn yet. Sad, huh? So, today was so far so good.

Breakfast: bowl of oatmeal w/ raspberries
Post run: greek yogurt w/ sugar free jelly (YUM) & a handful of almonds
Lunch: sushi form the market (in a rush)
Snack: coffee w/ diet hot cocoa & a handful of popcorn
Dinner: bar-b-que tri-tip (crockpot!), salad & 1/2 tortilla
Snack: handful of almonds, banana, candy cane green tea (thanks SWEETNSKINY!) & peanut butter & oat bar (while I watch House w/ my boys later)

I think I did ok today. Oh, I forgot, I did have one mini peppermint patty. I just couldn't resist. So, here is a pic of me in the jeans I would like to fit into:

Looks fine with the sweater covering me.

Now, here's without the sweater:

front view and

Side view

Rest assured, the muffin top is hanging over and I can hardly breathe. My goal is to fit into those jeans comfortably!! Wish me luck everyone!!!

Until tomorrow-

OK, another friend has challenged me to 60 minutes of exercise everyday of December... and I'm going to now call this my Chanukah Challenge, too ;-). (I'm doing quite well-- and it's amazing how a 'challenge' can get me unearthing all my exercise videos and home equipment, etc ;-). And hmm, I've got a pair of jeans that are a tad 'snug' when sitting down.... so I'm good for this goal too!! Love your Sparkpage, and all the hiking you've gotten in with friends and family-- think tomorrow I'll head up our hill on our Western PA farm ;-). Saw your response on the SparkJews page, responding re/ BirthRight.

I love Greek-style yogurt too, btw-- I've found I can make my own that turns out *amazingly* well every time, using Activia yogurt as my original starter (LAST February... it just keeps on working, perfectly!!).

Best luck in your Chanukah Challenge-- I'll check back in to see how you are doing!

Update on the last few days

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

Things have been going pretty good since Sunday. I'm still on high from my half marathon. Still can't get over how well I did. My legs were a bit sore on Monday, but all better now. I took Monday off. No exercising. I think I deserved that. Instead, I got to help out in my DD's classroom. We painted their California models they made last week (which I helped with, too). It's so nice at this age. They really didn't need any help at all. Did a few errands after I left her class and then, I was back there again for a little party: decorated pumpkins and had cupcakes ( a belated birthday for my daughter, too). Since there wasn't any homework, my DD went to a friends house. I met her at another one's friend for trick or treating. We ate dinner (1 slice of veggie pizza and lots of salad!). The girls had a really nice time together. I had a half a slice of pumpkin bread and 1 mini bag of peanut M&M's. Couldn't resist. My favorite.

Tuesday, I did some strength training. Just did 45 mins of arms and abs. Giving my legs some more rest. Eating was ok. Can't remember what I ate all day, but I think I did ok. I also don't think I did much yesterday. Just felt like relaxing.

Today, I got to run again. I was so excited to get out there and run. How crazy is that coming from me!!! But, it was so windy today that I decided to run on the treadmill which I loathe! I had to do 6 miles: 5 miles of intervals and 1 mile of straight running a total of 59 minutes. I"m hoping tomorrow the weather is better so I can see how I do outside. Eating was pretty good:

1 rice cake w/ apple butter
1 roll w/ 2 slices of turkey & 1/2 avocado
1 venti non-fat misto w/ sugar free vanilla
handful of almonds, string cheese
2 meatballs w/ whole wheat pasta
3 mini chocolates

Now, I'm back from soccer practice: I get to sit in the car and play/read on my IPAD while DD practices outside. I think I'm going to make myself some green tea and have a peanut butter & oat bar. Then, it'll be time to watch Modern Family!

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Until tomorrow-
