Mt. Baldy II

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

It all started Wednesday evening when Pagona called me. "hey, let's take Melissa and hike with her at Mt. Baldy!" (Melissa did Mt. Whiteny w/ us last year. She's from Seattle & was coming in for the long weekend). "I haven't trained Pagona. I can't do that." "oh sure you can. You're in good shape," says Pagona. Well, as we're talking, I'm getting more excited. I told her I had to check w/ DH & I'd get back to her. Went over to DH, leaned over and asked, "Jonathan, can I hike Mt. Baldy on Sunday?" "Sure, why not?" YEAH!! Called Pagona back and we made plans. The rest of the days were the same as usual.

Sunday morning, my alarm went off at 5:20. Got up, went to the bathroom, got dressed and was in the kitchen by 5:35. Ate some breakfast & finished packing my backpack. I got the call at 6:00 from Pagona that they were passing Rocky Peak. Hopped in the car & met them on the freeway. And, we were off. We made good timing, but we had to make a pit stop. We got to the parking lot, got ourselves ready & we were off by 7:55. But first, here's a picture of the 3 of us:

And, up we went to the fire road. We wanted to take Melissa the same way we went the first time, but we couldn't find the trail. They don't mark anything. So, we turned around and went the way we came down last time. Pagona and I decided that we were glad the last time we came the weather was bad and we couldn't see what was in front or on the side of us. It was kind of scarey. We made awesome time to the top. Melissa was in the zone and was hauling butt up that mountain. We were behind her and very content in our pace. It was so windy that I lost my hat. By the time I turned around to try to get it, it was gone. Didn't even see any yellow. Loved that hat!! Made it to the top by 11:30 (I think). Someone took a picture of me at the top, but for some reason, it didn't come out. But, here's one with all of us at the top:

We ate some snack, rested for a little & then, we were on our way. Our goal was to go back the same way we came up last time. We were headed for the green hut. Well, off we went. We're going down hill, nice pace & I needed a potty break. found a "bathroom" and had to ask a couple to wait. They weren't too happy, but, oh well. We started talking to them and realized, we were going on the wrong trail. See, they didn't mark them at all! If we would have continued on that trail, we would have gone 7 miles and it would have taken us to the village. Then, we would have to hitch a ride back up 3 1/2 miles to our cars. Or, we could turn around and find the right trail. What did we do? Turned around and went back. More uphill elevation. Oh so fun!! It took us 45 minutes which was really good. Found the right trail and we were on our way to the green hut. A lot of rocks to climb down and over. But, there it was, the GREEN HUT:

Took a potty break and we were on our way. We made amazing time on the way down. Basically, we just made amazing time. It took us 7 hours to hike 15.4 miles. Last year, we did less miles (because we didn't get lost!), took us more time & we ended up taking the ski lift down because it was getting late. All in all, it was a great hike. It was so nice being with my buddies again. And, they were so proud of me because I drank ALL of my water this time!! We ate a little snack and then, we went on our way. I got home around 5:15, took a quick shower & then, the whole family went to my brother's house for a visit. I was exhausted, but I was able to socialize. It was fun telling everyone all about my adventure.
Got home and we watched a movie. I was so tired, that I just couldn't get into it. So, I went to bed instead. Read a little & then, lights out. Didn't put the alarm on or anything.

When I woke up Monday morning, my legs were a bit stiff. My calves and quads hurt the most. DH asked if I wanted to go bike riding w/ him and our son. I told him I was just going to take a walk. Got dressed, put on my ipod and off I went. Well, let's just say that my walk truned into a 4 mile run. I just started and didn't stop. Not sure how smart that was, but I felt good. The rest of the day was crazy busy (as to why this blog is so late). Shopped, cooked, cleaned and hosted. 2 families came over at 4:30 for dinner: steak, salmon, beet salad, green salad, wild rice & brushetta. For dessert, DH & I made whoopie pies. Not my liking. Way too chocolately. The filling was good, though! The last family didn't leave until 10:00. can you say EXHAUSTED? (Oh, btw, my oldest son came home for dinner and to do his laundry!)

It was a great, long weekend. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I will post again tomorrow about my Tuesday and Wendesday.

Until then-

I Fell Behind

Saturday, September 04, 2010

I know, I was supposed to blog every day, but, life got hectic. Thursday, I spun at home, went to school, got my hair done & then, back to school to finish up for Back to School Picnic. Ran to get my son from his school, changed my clothes and, back to school again. Got to sit in the sun from 5:00 - 7:00, handing out envelopes to the parents. In the packet, they find out what class their child is in. Rachel and I were quite happy. She got the teacher we wanted!! YEAH! Got home just in time to eat a little something (bad eating day b/c I wasn't home all day) and then, watched the first USC football game. GO TROJANS!! Yes, we won (played hawaii), but our defense sucked!
Friday, I got to the gym early. My son changed his schedule & is now taking zero period which means, he has to be in school by 7:10. Rachel doesn't have to be in school (when she starts) until 8:05. Can you say CRAZY?? Any how, I got to workout full force. Did 70 mins on the arctrainer & then, took a boxing/s.t. class for an hour. I was ready to leave & my friend says, "Come on girl. Let's do some more cardio!" What?? Yup, I did. Did another 25 mins on the arctrainer. I decided to kick her butt on it & did a great routine. Was exhausted when I got home. Basically, did nothing until I had to pick my son up @ 2:15. took him for a haircut & slurpees. DH took Rachel to the country club to swim. Not sure what I ate for dinner, but, it wasn't a great eating day again. Watched a movie & then went to bed.
This morning, took my usual spin class (she gave us an extra 10 mins of push!) and body sculpt class. Came home & DH said, "Want to go to Ventura to walk around and have lunch?" Well, duh, yeah. took a fast shower, picked up the dry cleaning, and got gas. DH, Rachel and I leeft around 11:45 (the other 2 boys wanted to watch football all day). can you believe we had traffic? It's crazy. It was a beautiful day. Chilly, but beautiful! Had some lunch, walked around. Found a chocolate store & my hubby was in heaven. He got a box of truffles. Got Rachel some Ben & Jerry's & Dh some Starbucks. We went to Calabasas on our way home to stop in at Omaha Steaks. Having company on Monday & wanted to pick up some good steaks. I ran into Coffee Bean to get my drink! Then, to Suzy Cakes for more goodies: whoopie pie, banana pudding & 2 cupcakes. How the heck is someone supposed to eat clean and healthy with stuff like that in the house? I will do my best, I promise. I can handle little bites of my DH's truffles and be ok.
tomorrow, I am so looking forward to my day. I get to reunite with my Mt. Whitney buddies (ok, Pagona is here & we get to see each other, but our other buddy is joining us from Seattle) and climb another mountain together! yeah. I will definately blog about that with pictures. Going to have a WW latte bar and relax. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!!

Until tomorrow (or maybe Monday, depending on how late i get back from all my activities)-

September Goals

Wednesday, September 01, 2010

Ok, so, I've been doing a lot of thinking for September. I think I have some good goals. Now, I just wish I could find something to train for (like so many of my SP friends). First, let's go over my August goals:

emoticonExercise 6-7 times a week. Oh yeah, haven't taken a day off in awhile.

emoticonBe below 120: uh, nope, didn't get there. Not even close.

emoticonBe conscious of eating & track: well, I was kind of good with this, but didn't always track.

emoticonTry a healthy recipe once a week: yeah, failed!

Okay, on to September:

What are my fitness goals? To get lean and trim
What is my weight goal? Lose 5 lbs & try to be under 120!
What are my rewards? Well, ok, haven't figured that one out yet.
What are my fitness plans? Continue my exercise routine (unless I find something to train for & need to readjust it). Do cardio everyday for at least 30 mins, if not more. Strength train 2 times a week. Box one time a week. Spin at least 2-3 times a week. Body sculpt once a week (love that class!). Now, some things might have to change once I get Rachel's soccer schedule for Saturdays.
What's my diet going to be like? I need to track my food regularly & eat clean (as much as possible).
What are you going to do if you go off track? Get back on it at the next meal, or at least the next day.
Any other goals? I would like to start bike riding again. Maybe I can get DH to help me get back or, enlist my friend to help me. She lives around the corner & bikes a lot. I would also like to find something to train for. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm listening. I still would like to try to find one new recipe to make a week. Any one have any good ones for me to try? Send them my way!!

Okay, here it is. It's in writing, so, I'm committed.

Until tomorrow-

Great goals, Chana. I think I'll try writing up some goals for September too.

I like the idea of getting your husband to bike with you. A couple of months ago my dh and I were on a bike ride on a Saturday morning. And he said he'd love to do this every Saturday morning for the rest of his life. He said he felt like a teenager out for a bike ride with his best friend. I think we've only missed one Saturday since he said that! I don't always feel like going, but after hearing a heartfelt sentiment like that, it has made me want to make that effort. Husbands can be very inspiring!

I also like having something to train for. It keeps things interesting. And race day can be so fun and uplifting.

Good job on the goals you did well with in August and good luck in September! emoticon emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticonAwesome goals Chana :)

are there any charity walks, runs or bike rides in your area? We usually have them Sept, Oct and in the spring... Another idea would be a college level fitness class where they focus on improvements (thinking of my swim class & drills ad nauseum ;)

Or, someday... i'm thinking P90X for the fun of it!!! Ha! I can hear myself muttering on that ;)

I went, but didn't weigh in!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

I know, you were expecting me to report. I weighed myself at home & was totally fine. I worked out, took a shower and got ready. I was just not in the mood to weigh in. As long as my scale was fine at home, I was fine. I really only need to weigh in once a month at WW b/c I'm a lifetime member. So, I'm good until next week. My scale at home said 125.4 and that's what I've been for about a week now. I'm hoping it'll go down. I would like to see a lower number already. I'm trying!!

After the meeting, Rachel and I met a friend and her daughter at Starbuck's. I had my venti decaf non-fat misto w/ sugar free vanilla. I just love that drink!! We had to be home by 11:00 b/c Orkin was coming between then and 1:00. Of course, they came as soon as I started making Rachel lunch. But of course!! After they left, I made my lunch and Rachel and I sat on my bed and watched tv. We watch cooking challenges together and since we are switching to direct tv tomorrow, we have a lot of watching to do. I think we watched 2 or 3 CupCake War shows. We're crazy, I know!!

Not much else happened today. I made tacos for dinner (I had mine w/o the shells) and a blintz loaf for my son. I did taste it (had to make sure it was ok for him to eat). Now, I'm trying to decide what to have for dessert and, I jsut realized that I have to enter my food for the day. Never did that. Oh, I also have to think of my September goals and go over my August ones. Gotta see how I did. Hopefully tomorrow I will blog about that!

Ok, until tomorrow-

Monday Again

Monday, August 30, 2010

I went to the gym this morning and took my body sculpt class which I love. However, the insturctor informed us that he's changing the time starting on Wednesday: instead of an 8:15 class, it's now going to be 7:15. He has to take his kids to school. Well, there goes Mondays & Wednesdays. I can't make it to the gym until 8:30 once my princess starts school. Even now, with only dropping off my high schooler, I don't get there until 8:00. Now, I have to rethink about what I'm going to do. Hopefully, not many people will make it and they'll switch it back. I got in about 30 mins on the arctrainer & had to come home. The guys were coming to replace the garage door opener.

I basically did nothing until I decided to take my daughter to the movies. We went to see Nanny McPhee. It was cute. My 18 year old saw The Other Guys. He said that it was good. We got home & of course, my son texts to me to pick him up. Tryouts were over. I knew that was going to happen. He tried out for cross country. He said that he didn't think he made the team. I told him not to worry himself about it & wait til tomorrow when he sees his coach. He came in top 15: he ran 1 1/2 miles in a little over 10 mins. Hey, I couldn't do that! I'll ket you guys know. I decided to go back to the gym to take the mat pilates class. A little disappointed. It was the same exact routine as last Monday night. I don't think I'll be going back. I need the instructors to change things up.

Came home, made dinner: hamburgers for the kids, tofu for DH & myself. I love that stuff. I'm going to have a mango bar I found at Trader Joe's yesterday and watch some t.v. It was a pretty good eating day today. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go to WW. We shall see!!!

Until tomorrow-
