I always used to laugh to myself when I saw or heard anything about a latex allergy. I thought it was just nonsense - heck, I never had any problems. So...day before yesterday I had some small injury and put on a bandaid. Yesterday I took it off, and noticed that my arm hurt in an area near the original injury. I rubbed it, and the skin came off - well, then it was really painful! So I, being a little slow sometimes, put a bandaid on the area where the skin had come off.
Today I took off the new bandaid and again the nearby skin hurt. I looked closer - and found a bunch of nasty little blisters all in the area where the bandaid adhesive was! If I hadn't finally figured out that I must have developed a latex allergy, I could have ended up with bandaids, followed by new injuries, all over my arms.
So now I totally believe in latex allergies. :-( And I guess I will be buying latex-free
bandaids from now on.

Well, we are returning from dropping off my daughter at college far, far away. Only now I have a new car, one with an automatic transmission. This means that my son, who seems to be allergic to a stick shift, is now able to share the driving, even though he doesn't like to.
However, today I felt sick to my stomach most of the day, and he willingly drove for several hours. It was a huge help and relief to me. I only hope that my stomach feels better tomorrow. I wasn't able to eat dinner, and I still feel queasy, which unfortunately promises me a bad night's sleep.
Ah well, to a much better day tomorrow!

I have been on a loooong road trip, taking my daughter to college far away from home. This wouldn't have been quite so much a problem for me with healthy eating if it hadn't been for the fact that my older son didn't want to drive because the car has a manual transmission. I love the car, and love driving it, so I didn't mind, but......I got sleepy. Very sleepy. And I had to keep driving because we had a schedule to keep.
And I found that (sugar-free) gum didn't work well enough. Talking to my kids didn't work well enough. The only thing that could successfully keep me awake enough to drive was eating. Constant eating. Constant chewing and crunching and swallowing.
Which again didn't HAVE to be such a problem, except that what was available at the time was potato chips. A large bag of potato chips, of which I probably ate half. And the sad thing was that I wasn't hungry at all. I didn't even want it. What I did want was to stay awake and drive.
Eventually I started eating carrots and celery stalks. Lots of them. They worked just as well, without any calories to speak of, but by then the damage was done. Sigh.
So when I get home, I will have at least five pounds to lose just to get back to where I was when the trip started.
On the trip back, there will be no chips in the car, but only carrots and celery!

There is a reason I don't normally keep ice cream in the house. Today I ate way, way, way too much. Not to mention M&Ms. Oh, well, I will do better tomorrow. Since the ice cream is gone, I can't help but do better in that area. :-)

I am proud of myself - I got pizza for dinner tonight while the kids and I are watching the Olympics - and I only had two pieces. Granted, they were large pieces, and probably way too many calories, but in the past I would have eaten at least four, so I feel like I am doing great.
