I really can't believe how completely rude and insensitive some people can be. I will also add that I hate discussing politics unless I am with friends. I hate to walk into a situation where things get heated, mostly because vocal conflict (well, of course also physical conflict but luckily my life is such that that really doesn't ever affect me) distresses me and I just want to run the other direction.
This evening I was at the French table at a local restaurant, a twice-a-month event where people who want to get together and speak in French gather. They vary from beginning beginners to experts. I am in between, fwiw, but I usually much enjoy these evenings.
Not tonight. One regular attendee came rather late, sat down at the table, and just about the first words out of his mouth were (in mostly French and some English) how he couldn't understand how anyone could support Candidate X and those who do are just not intelligent.
I support Candidate X. I was pretty angry. I spoke up (and I don't often speak up in such situations because, as I say, I HATE conflict) and said, in mostly English but some French, that I would prefer it if we would not discuss politics because I support Candidate X and I was quite offended.
The rudeness, the arrogance, the intellectual snobbery...well, I could go on, but I won't.
However, this has pretty well ruined the French table for me. I can't decide if I will ever go back, but I am leaning towards not.

I had an awesomely fantastic time today at a friend's house. She was holding a "Pinterest in Person" event, the idea being that Pinterest is all about what we are interested in - say, crocheting, gardening, cooking, etc., but it is very solitary in general. So she invited us to her house to work on our crafty interests, and to bring a tasty treat (ideally from a Pinterest recipe) - what fun! To eat delicious food, work on crafts, and chat with friends. It would be hard for me to think of a more pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
I made brownies - others made mini-pizzas, potatoes with cheese, crustless pizza, homemade breads with herbs, meatballs, lemon cake...yummy! And, while I don't crochet, I bought a variety of small sewing projects I can never seem to find the time to work on. I finished mending a pair of socks, took in the waist of a skirt that almost fell off me the last time I wore it, and sewed some merit badges on a Boy Scout sash. Wow! I accomplished more in one afternoon that I had in years, and had fun doing it.

Things are going a bit better with my broken toe. I actually didn't tape it to the next toe over, because I knew it would hurt too much for me to actually be able to tape it. I did manage to find one of those medical-type sandals people wear when they have a foot injury. I got it the last time I had a broken toe.
What I had forgotten, though, was that, since they try to make these stupid sandals to fit everyone, they actually fit no one. The heel area is huge, way, way bigger than my heel, and the straps are so long I couldn't even tighten them enough to fit my foot. Still
I have been wearing it when I go out, because it's better than the other shoes I have, which all rub against my poor, pitiful toe.
The pain has lessened, and I am pretty sure it is on the mend. I wish it could mend faster, but things could have been so much worse. I am attempting to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. I wish everyone a blessed Sunday.

So I was careful and ate well yesterday, and was quite proud of myself as a result. I was also feeling like I was accomplishing things. Just overall seeming like a very good day. After dinner I was heading to the recliner to read for a little while, just as I do most evenings.
Now, I spent some time recently cleaning up the downstairs. As a result, my living room is in fairly good order. Between the kitchen and the recliner there is only one thing - a kitchen chair there is no room for at the kitchen table (because it is shoved up against a wall on one side). I couldn't figure out what to do with the extra chair, so I stuck it in the living room. I figured it was better than setting it in the middle of the kitchen floor for me to run into every time I walked across the room. Ha!
The sad thing is, that I wasn't even in a hurry as I walked towards the recliner. Maybe my mind was too much elsewhere, but I don't even think so. Just heading across the room. The next thing I knew I had - crash, bang - stumbled right into the one and only chair. It's a nice chair, wooden, attractive - ah, yes, it attracted my foot right to it.
I will not mention the words that rose to my lips, since I nobly refrained from uttering them. However, the pain was pretty extreme. Yes, I stubbed my toe against a chair in full, plain view, and managed to break my toe.
I debated long and hard about heading to the Urgent Care. But I have had this happen before. (Last time it was the vacuum cleaner, so you can see that I am 'accident prone.') You go to the doctor, they take an x-ray, they say, "Aha! Your toe is broken." Then they tell you there isn't anything they can do for it, except maybe tape it to the next toe over, and send you home with pain meds. Then they charge you a lot of money. I figured I could do the taping and the pain meds myself, and save the $$.
In a couple of days I'll be better, and in a couple of weeks, I'll be as good as new. See? Who needs a doctor?
But there does go the exercise I had been planning...no yard work or housework for awhile. :-(

Today I fixed broccoli for dinner, cooked in just a bit of water. As I was about to drain it, I decided to be lazy and just drain it into the empty teapot that was sitting on the stove. No big deal, right? I would just empty it out later and wash it. Wrong...I should have known.
So it's late at night, and I decided to make a fresh pot of tea so I could have iced tea tomorrow morning. Forgot all about the broccoli, and...of course...put tea bags in the pot and poured boiling water right into the broccoli water already sitting in the teapot.
YUCK!!
Oh, well, tomorrow I will do better. :-)
