Sleepy time gal...

Monday, February 06, 2012

It's been an odd week-end.

Saturday wasn't too bad.
I went grocery shopping, then met my son and grand daughter and we walked along the seashore. It's quite usual for us to do this, nothing out of the ordinary exercise wise, but towards the evening I began feeling tired. Nothing specific, no aches or pains, no feeling queasy...I just kept nodding off!

Sunday I didn't wake until 10.20am which isn't at all like me and then most of the afternoon and evening I just kept nodding off. I even missed a TV programme I'd been wanting to watch!

My DH said 'You'll never sleep tonight if you keep nodding off like that' but I did...all night until 8.20 am this morning'm still tired!

This morning we set off late for my hospital treatment because of the five inches of snow we got Saturday evening.
I don't actually have an appointment, I can go anytime between 7am and 11 am, we usually go for 8am but today we didn't get there until around 10am.
It was pretty cold in the car as the air was temperature outside was at minus 9 but I still managed to fall asleep on the way there!

I've only been back about an hour and so far I've had a hot drink and another nap!

I aren't worrying not getting anything done!
It's too easy to stay curled up by the fire with this cold snowy weather

Sunset's golden glow

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

We went to a retail outfit for DH to buy shoes and on the way back stopped off at Hornsea mere. It's an inland fresh water mere and a haven for wildlife. Lots of Canada Geese and Mute Swans over winter here
It was a really cold day and very windy but the sun was just setting.
It looked beautiful.
DH was a wimp and stayed in the car drinking hot chocolate while I walked around the shore. He'd had two cups by the time I got back and when I asked for a cup said it was all gone!
He had kept the car heater running so I was soon toasty again!

Here are a few pictures of the sunset:

The setting sun casts a long gleam over the mere

A boat is silhouetted against the horizon

Terns heading in to roost

walking the walk...

Monday, January 16, 2012

Yesterday I had my first longish walk for a while.
DH and I went to a not too distant nature reserve and I managed three and a half miles.
It wasn't a fast walk as we were birdwatching but the air was crisp and fresh and I really enjoyed it, it's one of the things I've missed with being ill, and I slept really well last night too.
There had been a good overnight frost and the temperature was still low, some of the ponds and river edges were still frozen but we saw snowdrops and the odd dandelion out and the hazels were covered in their pretty yellow tassel like catkins.
Lots of mute swans were heading in to the reservoir and seagulls by the score, it's one of the largest seagull roosts in the area.
I saw what I at first thought was a big black rat in the undergrowth which turned out to be a red eyed black rabbit! Somebody's lost their pet.
I took pictures of catkins and the rabbit but they won't seem to load on here.

Here are a few pictures:

We walked the canal bank.

One of the frozen ponds.

Lots of swans were headed in to the reservoir, their wings made a beautiful sound as they passed overhead

let there be light...

Friday, January 13, 2012

It was my weekly weigh-in day today and I lost another two pounds which means I hit my small target of ten it's treat time again.

DH took me to hospital for my phototherapy session and on the way back we stopped in town and I bought myself a lovely little clip-on booklight so I can read my kindle in the dark...DH paid for it!
It was an easy decision this time, sometimes I have to rack my brain to think about what to get. Let there be light!! emoticon

I've been away from Spark for a while, firstly from a hand operation which has healed beautifully and secondly I became quite poorly with an severe allergic reaction from licking an enevelope.

I was very lucky I didn't go into anaphylactic shock.
Within ten minutes my face had puffed up so much.
My eyes closed, my tongue and lips swelled so much I couldn't shut my mouth and it affected my breathing.
This in turn set off a really bad psoriasis flare-up, in places I'd never had it before, most which became infected causing large pus filled blisters and burning hot skin.

The infection spread to my eyes, the left one especially being swollen shut, pus filled and very sore and weeping.
This later spread into my sinus cavities causing burning inside my head as well as the outside of my body. I was so hot that cold wet cloth compresses were steaming and dry within a minute of application and I turned a nice shade of deep maroon.

All this has resulted in just over six weeks of antibiotics, antihistimines, emollients and pain...but from today I'm medication free and I've started my phototherapy sessions.
I still have all my topical lotions and creams that I use too.

I'm having a course of thirty light therapy sessions at the rate of three times a week for the next ten weeks. Hopefully it will help the psoriasis and show up any patches which might resist and could be from an allergy, in which case I can go for allergen tests.

My eyes were affected quite badly from the infection and it spread to my sinus cavities which has been very painful. It feels almost better but my eyes are pretty scratchy, dry and sore so I've been given false tears which are helping and I'm showering with a special cream which has also helped my skin enormously.

My lips and the inside of my mouth peeled pretty badly and are still sore but I'm rubbing an emollient into them and new skin is growing back.

On a more positive note, the skin which peeled off my face, neck, back and chest has been replaced by some lovely, smooth, soft-as-a-baby's-bottom's still a little reddish but looks infinitely better.

The phototherapy session this morning was only fourteen seconds duration, but even then it got very warm!
Each session will be increased in length until I reach the capacity session time.
I stand naked in a little cubicle wearing goggles and a face visor protector...what a picture!!
When the machine is switched on, full length flourescent type tubes light up giving me a pleasant blast of UVB rays which will hopefully help my poor skin.

It might sound odd, it may even be wishful thinking, but even after that one fourteen second session my arms look less red and feel smoother.

I know one'll never lick another envelope, it was a hard lesson to learn but it's done the trick.
Seems I'm allergic to latex, so that bascially means anything to do with elastic. I'm now in the process of trying to find underwear that is latex free and believe me, it's not easy!
Here's hoping! emoticon
