I've been away from Spark for a while, firstly from a hand operation which has healed beautifully and secondly I became quite poorly with an severe allergic reaction from licking an enevelope.
I was very lucky I didn't go into anaphylactic shock.
Within ten minutes my face had puffed up so much.
My eyes closed, my tongue and lips swelled so much I couldn't shut my mouth and it affected my breathing.
This in turn set off a really bad psoriasis flare-up, in places I'd never had it before, most which became infected causing large pus filled blisters and burning hot skin.
The infection spread to my eyes, the left one especially being swollen shut, pus filled and very sore and weeping.
This later spread into my sinus cavities causing burning inside my head as well as the outside of my body. I was so hot that cold wet cloth compresses were steaming and dry within a minute of application and I turned a nice shade of deep maroon.
All this has resulted in just over six weeks of antibiotics, antihistimines, emollients and pain...but from today I'm medication free and I've started my phototherapy sessions.
I still have all my topical lotions and creams that I use too.
I'm having a course of thirty light therapy sessions at the rate of three times a week for the next ten weeks. Hopefully it will help the psoriasis and show up any patches which might resist and could be from an allergy, in which case I can go for allergen tests.
My eyes were affected quite badly from the infection and it spread to my sinus cavities which has been very painful. It feels almost better but my eyes are pretty scratchy, dry and sore so I've been given false tears which are helping and I'm showering with a special cream which has also helped my skin enormously.
My lips and the inside of my mouth peeled pretty badly and are still sore but I'm rubbing an emollient into them and new skin is growing back.
On a more positive note, the skin which peeled off my face, neck, back and chest has been replaced by some lovely, smooth, soft-as-a-baby's-bottom skin...it's still a little reddish but looks infinitely better.
The phototherapy session this morning was only fourteen seconds duration, but even then it got very warm!
Each session will be increased in length until I reach the capacity session time.
I stand naked in a little cubicle wearing goggles and a face visor protector...what a picture!!
When the machine is switched on, full length flourescent type tubes light up giving me a pleasant blast of UVB rays which will hopefully help my poor skin.
It might sound odd, it may even be wishful thinking, but even after that one fourteen second session my arms look less red and feel smoother.
I know one thing...lol...I'll never lick another envelope, it was a hard lesson to learn but it's done the trick.
Seems I'm allergic to latex, so that bascially means anything to do with elastic. I'm now in the process of trying to find underwear that is latex free and believe me, it's not easy!
