The good thing is, it's not as bad as last time...

Friday, January 15, 2010

The 2nd of February 2008 was a red letter day for me.
I got my hearing back after being deaf for fifteen months due to a benign tumour on my eardrum.
Now, almost two years later, I'm almost back to square one.....I've a nasty earache and I can't hear properly in my left ear!

It began a couple of weeks ago when my ear began popping and crackling every now and again, usually when I was laid down, but there were long periods inbetween them and they weren't enough to worry me.
Then last Sunday I began to get intermittent earache over most of the day and night. The next day it was fine but on Tuesday the earache began again. At first it was just small twinges with good periods inbetween, not too bad, then on Wednesday the pain came on in earnest and hasn't gone away and now I can't hear well either. It feels like I have something in there, it's painful and wet and it's sizzing and popping constantly.

Today I went to have swabs taken and have been given antibiotic drops for an ear infection. I've been told my ear is gloopy inside, it's swollen and painful too.
My psoriasis is pretty bad in both ears at the moment, which isn't helping as they itch constantly and you can't get at it to stop it!
I've to go back in a week with a view to seeing my specialist again if the swabs show anything bad.
The medicated drops I've been given make me feel even deafer and it really stung as they went in.
I haven't had much sleep as it seems worse when I'm laid down so I'm hoping the medication kicks in quickly and I can sleep tonight.

I really am thankful for small mercies.
It sounds as though I'm moaning a lot but there is a positive's not as bad as last time.....I can still hear in one ear!!! emoticon

Thanks everyone, the painkillers have kicked in a bit and I managed intermittent sleep emoticon emoticon

2nd February 2010.
Bit of an update for anyone interested.
It's a perforated eardrum and inner ear infection.
It's healing nicely but still swollen and infected so I'm on antibiotics.
The pain's gone and the feeling like I'm about to fall over has gone too.
Just time now...

When I was a kid you didn't take your kid to a doctor for earaches. I had a lot of earaches. I remember my mom grinding an aspirin between two spoons and then stir it with jam. After that I was treated to a warm drink with honey, lemon juice and amber whisky. Ugh! Can't drink the stuff even now. Just the smell reminds me of the pain. Thank goodness these days we have better options at our disposal to treat the pain! I wish you well on this journey and hope the news is good.

    I am so sorry Martha!!!
I use to have ear aches as a child all of the time and I can remember the pain. And like you say, you can't get to the itch or pain to do anything!! It can be very intimidating!!

I will be thinking of you and saying a prayer.
Maybe you can take lots of pictures with your camera to take your mine off of it!
Keep in touch!!

Brrr it's cold!!

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Brrr it's cold....a very chilly strong north wind is blowing so hard the snowflakes are almost horizontal!.
It's been snowing on and off since 21st December and never seems to get much above freezing so the snow and ice are compacted down. There's still a good depth over the footpaths and roads so I can't go walking outdoors yet.
Last nights snow is on top of the already compacted snow and ice making it very slippery and it still keeps snowing too. They're forecasting yet more to come for at least the next week and the temperature never seems to get much above freezing before it drops for the night again. What little bit of sun we do get just melts the surface which freezes over night making it like a skating rink.
I'm still too wary after my knee ligament damage, which is just coming right, and I don't want to slip and damage it it's indoor walk marching again....I enjoy it but I'd rather be out and about with my camera, unfortunately my walk buddy has a damaged knee at the moment so I daren't risk it alone.

I've denuded the house of it's Christmas actually looks quite bare!
I danced around doing the dusting, polishing and hoovering which made quite a nice workout and have walk marched for thirty minutes.

Yesterday I made a couple of big batches of soup which I've frozen into portions. One's butternut squash, onions and carrots and DH doesn't like it so it's all for me.....he he he!.....the other is mixed vegetable which DH will have some of.
I don't really have a recipe, just throw everything in, add chicken stock, any herbs or spices I fancy and that's it.....negligible calories, nice and warming on a winters day and a good filler!

Our weather is the same as yours still too. Except we have not had any days above freezing since before Christmas. So we still have 10 inches of snow on the ground. And it is snowing right now too!!
I have a couple of bird feeders that I try to keep full. The birds seem to be very hungry. I guess they can't find much right now except in feeders.

Stay inside and exercise! It is not worth it outside. I am doing the same thing. I love being out but not in this weather!!
Have a great day and wish I could see the "dancing duster"!! LOL
And I will take a serving of the soup please!........

motivator of the day!!

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

I'm not sure how you get to be Motivator of the day or how you get to know about it either but apparently I'm it!!!!
I'm thrilled...
My Sparkpage is covered with wonderful comments, goodies and emails from Sparkers who have sent their congratulations and good wishes and to them I send hugs and say a very big THANKYOU.

My health has been pretty poor these last couple of years but I now feel as though I've turned a corner and can get on with living life as it should be lived.
Losing weight is part of that so Spark has been a lifesaver to me not just through the wonderful people I've met here who are an inspiration but there is no end of wonderful help, advice.....nutritional & motivational.....and recipes to keep me on track and encourage me through any rough patches.....and there have been a few of those!
It's not so much me motivating you as you motivating me.....

I'm looking forward to 2010 with great anticipation, I'm hoping to stay on the wagon permanently and want to wish all my Spark friends a very Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year.
May YOUR year turn out to be everything YOU want it to be. emoticon emoticon

the GREATEST Christmas present anyone could ask for......

Monday, December 07, 2009

My youngest son was made redundant eighteen months ago as the recession set in.
In that time I've watched him grow more dejected each week as he steadfastly applied for any and every job he heard about and received no acknowledgement back.

Some jobs had over three hundred applicants!

He went on training courses supposed to better his chances but which in reality made no difference what so ever.

In all this time he had one interview but found another thirtyfive shortlisted applicants there when he arrived...he didn't get the job.

He attended the job centre every week, wrote and re-wrote his CV so it sounded different and lived on a frugal handout which would make anybody feel down hearted.

I admire him so much for his perseverence which has at last paid dividends...
a firm he applied to over a year ago kept him in mind and on Friday called the Job Centre to ask them to tell him to get in touch.

He started work today.....YEAH!!!

There is hope for everyone out there....though sometimes it's a long time materialising. emoticon

My daughter went through the same thing about a year ago. She had a job she loved and was great at, but was downsized out. It is so hard to watch your child suffer. But like your son, she recovered and is now gainfully employed. Life's a little harder now than when we were young, isn't it?

You're right. That was a fantastic Christmas present. Good luck to your son in his new position.
The recession is hitting everyone hard. My younger son is a graphic designer, worked for a full year in a company which created video games for a major distributor...well the company went belly up with NO WARNING. Son applied for unemployment but was DENIED because he had in the past worked free-lance. I am so upset that he paid in to SS and unemployment but is now being penalized. He's going to try to fight it, but what does he live on in the mean time?
Forgive me to have vented on your Happy Blog....but you, of all people, understand how upsetting the situation is.
Take care and have a wonderful Christmas.

Hurrah! Good for your Son. You are right saying perserverance pays off. The job situation is really scary. I feel sorry for everyone in the job search market. The stores are complaining sales are down this Christmas season. No wonder. No work, no money, no gifts.
I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas. Sherry

a Christmassy visit

Friday, November 20, 2009

Yesterday myself and a friend had a very pleasant afternoon out visiting a nearby stately home to view their Christmas decorations.
This year they were made and displayed by the new young owners of the hall and this was reflected in their designs.
It was very child friendly, minimal, colourful and mixed modern with traditional in a very appealing way.
I enjoyed it immensely and walked quite a good distance with out feeling much pain as it was so interesting.
It was just the stairs that got me, three flights...but I didn't do them all at once.
I'm rather slow, two feet on each step which can cause traffic jams if there are a lot of people about and it makes my knee ache rather than hurt.
I didn't sleep too well last night, I did get a couple of muscle cramps and spasms that had me wandering around the house for an hour or so but today I am relatively pain free.
I'm convinced gentle exercise and slowly building up my strenghth again is the way to go.

What beautiful decorations! Now that Thanksgiving is over, I'm ready to start preparing for Christmas. I hate it that the stores start playing Christmas music before Halloween!
Do you have any special plans for the Holiday?
Just thinking about you and wondering how things were your side of the Pond.
