the GREATEST Christmas present anyone could ask for......

Monday, December 07, 2009

My youngest son was made redundant eighteen months ago as the recession set in.
In that time I've watched him grow more dejected each week as he steadfastly applied for any and every job he heard about and received no acknowledgement back.

Some jobs had over three hundred applicants!

He went on training courses supposed to better his chances but which in reality made no difference what so ever.

In all this time he had one interview but found another thirtyfive shortlisted applicants there when he arrived...he didn't get the job.

He attended the job centre every week, wrote and re-wrote his CV so it sounded different and lived on a frugal handout which would make anybody feel down hearted.

I admire him so much for his perseverence which has at last paid dividends...
a firm he applied to over a year ago kept him in mind and on Friday called the Job Centre to ask them to tell him to get in touch.

He started work today.....YEAH!!!

There is hope for everyone out there....though sometimes it's a long time materialising. emoticon

My daughter went through the same thing about a year ago. She had a job she loved and was great at, but was downsized out. It is so hard to watch your child suffer. But like your son, she recovered and is now gainfully employed. Life's a little harder now than when we were young, isn't it?

So happy your son found a job when he did. God doesn't forget us. As you try to lose weight just remember your weight will come off when you least expect it to. Keep trying just as your son did.

You're right. That was a fantastic Christmas present. Good luck to your son in his new position.
The recession is hitting everyone hard. My younger son is a graphic designer, worked for a full year in a company which created video games for a major distributor...well the company went belly up with NO WARNING. Son applied for unemployment but was DENIED because he had in the past worked free-lance. I am so upset that he paid in to SS and unemployment but is now being penalized. He's going to try to fight it, but what does he live on in the mean time?
Forgive me to have vented on your Happy Blog....but you, of all people, understand how upsetting the situation is.
Take care and have a wonderful Christmas.

Hurrah! Good for your Son. You are right saying perserverance pays off. The job situation is really scary. I feel sorry for everyone in the job search market. The stores are complaining sales are down this Christmas season. No wonder. No work, no money, no gifts.
I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas. Sherry

a Christmassy visit

Friday, November 20, 2009

Yesterday myself and a friend had a very pleasant afternoon out visiting a nearby stately home to view their Christmas decorations.
This year they were made and displayed by the new young owners of the hall and this was reflected in their designs.
It was very child friendly, minimal, colourful and mixed modern with traditional in a very appealing way.
I enjoyed it immensely and walked quite a good distance with out feeling much pain as it was so interesting.
It was just the stairs that got me, three flights...but I didn't do them all at once.
I'm rather slow, two feet on each step which can cause traffic jams if there are a lot of people about and it makes my knee ache rather than hurt.
I didn't sleep too well last night, I did get a couple of muscle cramps and spasms that had me wandering around the house for an hour or so but today I am relatively pain free.
I'm convinced gentle exercise and slowly building up my strenghth again is the way to go.

What beautiful decorations! Now that Thanksgiving is over, I'm ready to start preparing for Christmas. I hate it that the stores start playing Christmas music before Halloween!
Do you have any special plans for the Holiday?
Just thinking about you and wondering how things were your side of the Pond.

turning point

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

After six weeks I finally slept through the night, 10:30pm to 7:00am, and I feel GREAT!
Almost pain free, just a slight limp as my knee still won't straighten properly yet, the odd muscle spasm now and again but I'm raring to go!
Oh! I AM going to take it slowly, not rush into anything and I'll build up my walking again, I don't want anything to go wrong now.

The weather has been bad since Saturday with high wind and torrential rain just when I wanted to get out and about again but I've managed a short walk each morning and enjoyed it for all that!

I've sort of been off the wagon dietwise too and yesterday climbed back on and I'm staying here now come hell or high water.
I've kept up with my physio exercises and drank my water so it hasn't all been bad..... emoticon

Thanks everyone, I intend to take it steps Elafant.
The weather gods are certainly helping Spirit as it's too cold to hang about outside and it also makes my muscles hurt when it's cold.
Thanks Marilyn and Lil for your much needed support emoticon

Congratulations! I noticed your status and am thrilled for you. What I wouldn't do for more than 4 hours of sleep a night.
I didn't have a good summer, diet wise. Lots of stress, etc.
The good news is I just finished the third of my cortisone shots in by lower back and I think they might finally be helping.
Good luck with your PT. A good night's rest is just such a gift,
Keep up the good work.

throw away beauty...

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

This was an old and rotten piece of plywood my DH was about to throw away.
I turned it over and there hidden from view was this beautiful pattern of coloured lichens.....little green and yellow flower shapes each one with a beauty of its own.
I took the photo and DH took the rotten wood and.....threw it away!

autumn glory

Saturday, October 17, 2009

It's three weeks since my knee started hurting and though it's feeling loads better the doctor still says around three more weeks of taking it easy and I've to be patient!

Today was the highlight of the last three weeks as I went to the supermarket with DH and did a grocery shop.....the sad thing is I was really looking forward to it LOL
Can't say I really enjoyed it and my knee is giving me gyp but hey! at least it got me out of the house!

Don't things look different when you haven't seen them for a while?
The ride through the village was an eye opener.
I can't believe the difference in the trees and gardens.....autumn is upon us!
My own garden which is very sheltered has been the limit of my hobbled forays and though it has changed I'm afraid complacency set in and it didn't prepare me for the myriad of colours I saw.....just beautiful.
Can't wait to get back to my daily walks!
