So today was my Run to Remember 5 miler. This was my third time running it. Its for a great cause, and it has a challenging course. I love that it runs through the city, and near my office. I do not love though the way the air was feeling this morning- HEAVY. Not to mention I for some reason decided to make the poor decision of mixing the alcohols I drank yesterday as I lounged by the pool with the kids. This of course after our trip to Boston for the day yesterday after Boot Camp. I took them with me to get my number and to check out the Expo- which sorry this year was sort of a let down. Not much to do for the kids besides an overcrowded jumpy house and not as much freebies. Oh well- we quickly walked through, and then I decided since I paid the $13 for parking in the lot, lets enjoy the city. took my 5 and 7 yr olds for the first time to the Childrens Museum. It is sort of pricy- $36 for the three of us. It was cute, they did enjoy it which is the most important thing to me, but it really is not that much to do. It took us maybe 2 hrs to go through it all? They had fun but I think they are on the cusp of being too old for it. After we went there, I had a bit of nostalgia and wanted to go to the Barking Crab. It's a cute little bar/restaurant= really it's more of a cool waterfront hangout- NOT a good food place. I was starving though and did not feel like Au Bon Pan food at the museum. Barking Crab though- not a good place either. It's basically a tourist trap, so listen up those NOT from Massachusetts just checking out Boston. If you go here- JUST go there for the atmosphere and for the bar area. THAT IS IT. I tried their chowder- I wanted a cup, only sold by bowl AND that was $8.00! Again - not the greatest food choice, but I had done my Boot Camp that morning, had a healthy breakfast, and I was starving. I went with the bowl of chowder- which ate a smidge more of half of, and a salad with walnuts, craisins, green apples, and a bit of feta cheese. They served with some oil& vinegar dressing. Eh at best. Kids got chicken fingers & fries. Just overpriced for lunch for three with tip=- $55! The food was not good. Later we came home and swam in the pool. This is where I made more bad choices- had a skinny girl margarita, then I later had a watermelon one that I made. Finally I had a glass of red wine. What am I doing???? The night before a race. Dinner was good- steak tips on the grille, I had mine with tossed salad, and an ear of corn. Later I had a skinny girl fudgicle. I have to get the info on that- only 100 calories. So today I got up - feeling EXHAUSTED as I took a tylenol PM. The air was so heavy when I got to the race. HUGE crowd - must have been 8000 running the two races- half marathon and 5 miler. The half is the bigger draw. I like doing the 5 miler. So I lined up in the middle. It was crowded, have no idea if I started my watch right or not. I know I again went out too fast, and really the whole time, I just felt like luggage.
Mile 1 7:29
mile 2 8:00
mile 3 7:59
mile 4 8:01
mile 5 8:00
Just off and not my typical race. I don't know what my real official time is- watch said 39:49- horrific for me. Not sure what I was thinking as I said. I guess in a nutshell I was not thinking. Plus I sort of feel raced out. I just ran races EVERY Sunday this month. That is a bit much ... The only weekend I did not was Mother's Day. I have June pretty much race free. Soon I will be shifting back to marathon training. Weight- 158. Eh again. I ate well the past week for the most part. Just a couple of bad choices made here and there. Time to shake off this poor race performance and just relax. I think I need that.
Enjoy your weekend.

WOWEE- The Bruins did it. We are going to the FINALS! Can I get a WOO HOO? WOOOO HOOOO! What a game! I have to admit- did not watch all of it. But I did watch the first period completely- what defense for both sides. Amazing! I had to know about 11:40pm whether we won, so I woke up and turned on the local sports channel. I thought we had lost at first, but then saw the score- WOW! Amazing! I had trouble falling asleep after that, but finally did. I worked a half day from home yesterday as my kids had half days at school and hubs was working. So yesterday morning I did a set of resistance training mixed with 4 5 minute 5 tests on the bike level 8. I worked my triceps hard and also did some push ups- lots! My arms were aching. Today was Boot Camp- I lead, and we had only 4 total show with the long weekend and all. I got there late for me. I typically want to get a 2 mile run in for warm up, but instead got 1.32 miles. Then we moved onto the work out. I put what we did on the fitness tracker that I share. It was a great workout. I had us run twice (.50 more miles total) so I got just under 2 miles run. We also did a lot of squats and I added leg lifts this week. Felt great. Now I am taking the kids into Boston as I have to get my number at the World Trader Center at the Waterfront. They usually have a great running expo too. If the weather clears may go to the Public Gardens and ride the swan boats. Hubs is trying to finish up getting our pool opened. It's almost there. He worked last night and had a house fire call late, so he is beat. (Policeman) So that is that. Eating was great yesterday. I did have a couple cocktails as I laid outside while the kids played in the kiddie pool- just a skinny girl margarita and later a glass of red sangria as we watch Gnomeo and Juliet. That was too cute. So tomorrow- race, then relax around the pool, and Monday a cookout at my BIL house. Have a safe long weekend. Good luck to my Canadian Sparksters doing their marathon I think today? If not today tomorrow. ROCK IT!

Wow yesterday and now we are seeing this WHOLE long weekend are HOT HOT HOT. We can not complain around here as we had rain 40 days and 40 nights- well at least it felt that way. So like I said yesterday- decided to get out and run yet again outside. This time in the afternoon- which I NEVER do. I worked at home as I had a client visit nearby. As soon as it was 4pm, I laced up the sneakers and headed out with hat, glasses, Garmin, and IPOD. NO water. Should have brought some. I also made another gaffe. For my afternoon snack I opted for a Chobani Raspberry yogurt with flax seed, fruit, and granola. Delish and healthy sure but you know what? Not the best choice before a run- especially a hot one. I ate it about an hour before- NOT enough time so future reference- DO NOT eat yogurt. So I headed out- muggy, about 80 degrees and SUNNY hot! Here is how I did the course:
mile 1 7:49
mile 2 8:02
mile 3 8:16
mile 4 8:21
32:29 4 miles. I was DYING as I progressed. I honestly FELT like I was walking but I guess I wasn't. It was so hard and I was SO SO SO parched! I somehow NEVER walked, never stopped, and made it through. I try to put myself in trying training conditions so I am able to handle when its real- like Sunday's race- The Run to Remember. This is a half marathon AND 5 miler. I opt for the 5 miler. I love running it as I get to run on streets that you typically could never run on in Boston. It's cool to run through the city, go by my office, the public gardens, etc. It's jus a great course. I have done it twice- both times under 40 minutes, which is one of my goal sets when I do a 5 miler. Here is what I usually tell myself before a 5 mile race:
break 40 minutes
do better time than you did last time on course
break PR- which is 37:52 right now for 5 miles.
So with this forecast of HOT, not sure what will happen. I do know I will try my damndest, have fun, and be done with my exercise for the day all by 9am. How can you beat that right? My husband and son are hard at work opening our pool as we speak. Can not wait to get in there. I am heading out to get a new kiddie pool too. WOOO! No weigh ins today. I was psyched about my 157 ! Not recording that though until Sunday- if I see it again or BETTER? WOO! Eating choices have been good. My new fave? Mahi Mahi Burgers by Trader JOes. They are so so so so good! Here's to a long weekend, here's to the Bruins winning tonight! COme on BLACK AND YELLOW!
