WTF Challenge 11/3 - 11/7

~*~ WTF Challenge 11/3 - 11/7 ~*~

Welcome to anti-burnout week. We all seem to be caught in that awkward uncomfortable stage between completely giving up and overdoing it so much that we are about to burn out.
AMEN- that was me Monday. I did take TWO rest days so I am listening very closely to my body.
This week's challenge is to go back thorugh your history and tracking on spark and find when you were most motivated
and happiest with your progress and momentum and find out how to recreate it NEXT week.
This week we are just going to focus on the basics.

Get all your water everyday. CHECK - for me I do it while working out- I bring my trusty water bottle filled. By the time I leave- it's empty. Then at work- I only drink water during the day. I fill this GIANT Patriots mug probably two or three times. Water is a plenty. I make about 4 trips a day to the ladies room to prove it!
Track your food and any fitness you do. Hey I am a SPARKS nut with their two trackers. I swear by them and I have religiously tracked since February 2010. It's how I stay focused, know what I am eating, and where I am. People think I am CRAZY how much I account for the calories I eat. Hell- maybe I am?
Get 8 hours of sleep nightly if possible. This- not possible. I try- I really do. It's just I have to be up for 4:30am. I go to bed by 8:30pm, but fall asleep later- say 9:30pm. I am close- I get 6-8 hrs per night. Not bad.
Make sure to get in some alone time so you don't crack. Try to do this. Tough as I am on duty solo most nights as hubby works second shift. When he is home though- I do disconnect briefly so I can just catch my breath.

Forgive yourself for any blase or over-demand you've been going through. DONE
Next week we are kicking it up- but we can't do that if we are running our bodies into the ground. LET'S ROCK IT EVERYBODY. WE SO DESERVE IT!

Do what you can and report back on the next template everything that you were able to accomplish, big or small victories, between now and Sunday. Check and check

This week's challenge- instead of letting your spark die out, build up a solid stack of new firewood for the cold times ahead. Will think of my plans. Hoping the marathon training will be starting. Still waiting to hear for sure- IF I have a number!

Bonus Motivation Kicker- find a movie that you have always loved, where the main character prevails and overcomes obstacles, no matter how bleak the future. netflix it, rent it, by it used, whatever. Watch it, I dont care if its Beaches or 16 Candles if it motivates you.
HMMMMM

Then workout after you watch it and let that character be your workout buddy in your imagination. Figure out what it is about that movie that really gets you going. Think about it while you work out. use it. Love it privately.
TOO FUNNY - will try that. More at SPIN class I think for me.

There is no check in thread this week for this template- but feel free to blog about what you learn about yourself.

Love that I belong to TWO gyms again. I know - NERD central, but this second one offers classes = which in the past I would NEVER of thought to try as I am so uncoordinated. Being somewhat fit now though- I love the challenge of trying a new exercise or routine. It's exciting to see how far I have come as in the past as I say- I would never have been able to follow or keep up for that matter. I am proud that I did a flex /muscle class last week and caught on with no trouble. It's nice to mix it up.

Trying my damndest to get out of my cyclicle weight range of 154-157. I have been doing this now since August. SUX. I want to see the 140's dangit. Let's get this parted started right. Let's get this party started quickly!

Dissed by the trainer? WTH?

Wednesday, November 03, 2010

Ok- I was all pumped to get my body fat tested, have a health /fit assessment, etc this morning. What happens? The JackA$$ doesn't show. Ok- I am not that mad but I am disappointed that I didn't get to see how my hard work has paid off- if it has I mean. I just saw on the fitness boards a question about body fat levels. Coach Jen answered the breakdowns of body fat:

The low end of the range would be for women ages 20-30, higher end for ages 40-50.

Essential Fat 10-12%
Athletes 14-20%
Fitness 21-24%
Acceptable 25-31%
Obese 32% plus

OK I am 41 and I had mine tested at the gym after my trainer sessions in April (had 13) and it went from 27% to 25% from the year before. I was disappointed that it was only 25% but I have been continuing to work hard to get to either fitness or better athlete level. The new gym I have been going to (won a 3 month free membership) they offer free fitness assessments. The guy emailed me back yesterday to confirm 5:30am. I responded and said see you there. NO SHOW. Oh well. I ended doing 42 minutes running -5.32 miles. Then I did three sets of planks that I held for 30 seconds each, 3 sets of 15 bridges holding a 10 lb weight, and last one set of 25 bicycle crunches. I have been missing ab work so squeezed in the one set. I will kick abs up tomorrow. Today I wore my Calvin Klein dress I bought back in September. It's a SMALL. WOWEE. I am a little self conscious= maybe it's too snug? I will have to see what Coach T thinks. I love it but hopefully it's not like I am squeezing myself into it appearance? Hopefully not. Well back at it here at work. Hope all have a fab day and feel good.

Mooy

Better

Tuesday, November 02, 2010

Wow- a day off does a mind and a body good. I feel so much better than I did yesterday. Yesterday was just plain awful. I felt tired, cranky, moody, blah. I did eat well - for the most part, but I needed that day to regroup. Work was very stressful- I had a lot of deliverables I needed to meet. I felt like I was never going to get there. I finally did get through it, but getting there was rough sailing. Today is a new day though and I feel good.
I met my friend- although at first she had no clue I was there. the day started bad as my internet connection at home was /is down. WAAAAAAAA That is a part of my morning routine. Logging into facebook and sparks to have coffee and wake up. I tried in vain to get the connection back - unplugged cords, reboots, etc. NOTHING. WAAAAA I have no clue what the problem is. It was working last night???? Anyway- had to get a late start here since I had meetings up to 11am! Work out though- that was killer. My friend was on the high stair master when I finally spotted her. Here is what I did:
ran 11 minutes 1.45 miles
First set of 3 exercises:
Lunges with dumbells 3 sets of 15 12 lb weights
lateral raises with dumbells- 3 sets of 15 8 lbs
Bicep curls- 3 sets of 15 - 8lbs

Run .39 miles in 3 minutes

Second Set - my friend and I find each other here:
lateral pull down machine- 3 sets of 15 50lbs
shoulder press machine= 3 sets of 15 40 lbs
chest press machine 3 sets of 15 50 lbs

Run .39 miles in 3 minutes

Third set:
angled leg press machine 3 sets of 15 100 lbs
push ups- 3 sets of 10 real ones
tricep dips legs straight out- 3 sets of 12

Ran .53 miles in 4 minutes

That was it. Time was up as I had to be on time for work - or close to it. I have been late here and need to work on that. Especially that my coworker is pursuing his masters and basically work is secondary and not a priority for him. It makes things stressful for me. He is out the next two days- vacation time to prep for his latest class. His time, his right, but knowing the big picture is he wants to be laid off, he is unfufilled here- it can be grating to me as I actually like /love my job and I am bothered that he's basically only here for the money and makes no effort to hide that. Ok- I got it out. I feel better. I have a race Saturday- 5k on a course where I could PR again. It's flat and fast. We shall see what I do!

Boss sees nothing. He's too busy on migration AND for some reason really carries the kid. It's fine- I worry about me. I just feel bad when I snap at his slackertude.

WHAT? I take another rest day? Yes!

Monday, November 01, 2010

Ok to start I am telling you- I really went for it yesterday. To start- ran 2.55 miles, THEN took my first ever muscle/flex conditioning class that was an hour. Next- went for the free swim at the gym with the family. My hubby and I are competitive so we raced the freestyle- just one lap= he beat me by a half body length. Then I decided to do a 100- so three more laps - just to get some exercise in- besides the up and down the pool I did with the kids as they swam. After that, grocery shopped, got dinner, took the kids trick or treating- walked pushing double jogger as kids jumped in and out for an hour in the COLD! let's just say- by the end of the night I was spent. This morning- I had the intent to go to the gym and do my 45 minute run. I just could not do it- as when the alarm went off- I felt SO SO SO tired and I still do now. Not good. I worked out Sat and Sun- HARD, so I need a break. I did walk from the train this morning and if I am up for it- will do Wii but knowing me- most likely I will not get to it as I have dance class for my daughter right after work. Whew- can you say busy? Eating has been good. I allowed myself TWO pieces of Halloween candy last night. One- the full size peppermint patty, and ONE mini mounds. My two faves. Heck- all candy is my fave it seems. I said no to anything after that and I was in calories again for the night so yea me. Will get back at it tomorrow with strength training. I have a 5k race coming this Saturday. It's a course I have done many times, so we will see if I can best my PR of 22:34! Hope all made it through their Halloween! Here's to November!

Classes are NO joke

Sunday, October 31, 2010

OK - as I whined in my status update- my muscles were aching. My inner thighs specifically after yesterdays spinning class. OOF. All day I ached - whether it was carrying my 4 yr old up the stairs- yes he still makes me do that occasionally- even though he's 50lbs, or attempting to walk in some what heels at the Halloween party yesterday- I had aches and pains. I do think they are good ones- the ones you get from really pushing your muscles and body to the limit. I did that yesterday. My friend bailed on me with today's work out. Which was running first, then an hour muscle/flex class. This was first ever of this type of class. Anyway- she texted that her hips hurt so she was out. Now believe me- I could have EASILY done that too. I almost did- I really was hurting. BUT- I said - stop sign- I can handle this. Let's do it. So I did- only got to run 22 minutes- 2.55 miles, but headed in to the class not knowing what to expect. I find out- she actually starts out with 10 minute cardio type warm up. Nice. I already ran for that reason but was going to be whacked with more. Which she did. She had us to some marching in place, turning into leg kicks forward, to the sides, running in place, jumping jacks, lunges- you name we did it for like 10 minutes. I was sweating. Then she moved right into weights. We had to balance on a leg with shoulder presses, we did hammer curl sets, bicep curls, tricep work, leg work, push ups into planks, ab work, and then squats with the bar. It was an overall HARD work out and a good one. I felt overall stretched out, worked, tired. I loved it another words. I plan to alternate- one week- spin, next week that class. I have to start getting long runs in- so one of these is enough on the weekend I think. Saturdays I think will become my long run. I will start that next week. I was 154- so down for the week and finishing the month of October at 154. Nice. Today we are using the gym's pool for family free swim at1pm. THe whole family is going so this will be great. Get some exercise in for the kids and some therapeutic for me. I am sure the swimming will help me loosen my muscles. Hope all have a great, safe, and fun Halloween.

GO PATRIOTS! KICK FAVRE's BUTT

Yeah it was challenging. I am a class virgin so to speak. I typically work out alone or just go running. I have been trying to kick things up with cross training. It makes things different and I feel I am working different muscles. NICE.

That class sounds great! It always makes me giggle/groan when I just ran two miles and then I get to class and we do 15 minutes of cardio warm-up.
