race 1

Thursday, July 08, 2010

Tonight is my first July race. Of course it's a 5k, but it's one I really love. It's an all women race, and it's held in the town near mine. Only issue was childcare. My good friend was all set to take my two tonight as I ran the race. the town we live in hosts Kids Track on Thursday nights. She was going to take my tw0 - ages 4 and 6, along with her 5 yr old daughter to the races. I had packed watermelon for them, waters, and was planning on stopping for small cheeseburgers for each child for their dinner, to make it as easy as possible, since she was doing this wonderful favor. Turns out though- she calls this morning at 7:45am to cancel= her daughter is ill. Great! What am I to do? Figures I preregistered online yesterday for it. My husband is a policeman working (works second shift), my in-laws take care of my daughter, and two other grandchildren during the day so I feel bad asking them. I ended up calling my brother in law who lives in town and has an 8 yr old ... LUCKILY he called me back and said YES to watching them. Only problem- I can tell he is not on board with taking the kids to the track. See his daughter is not into exercise at all- mine are and love the exercise and friendly competition. His daughter is 8- about 25 lbs over weight unfortunately. She has lost some weight which is FABULOUS and I think the track runs would do her WONDERS! I could tell though he didn't seem overly enthusiastic so I can not force it. I said- ok- if you don't mind asking the kids what they'd like to do? If they say no and want to swim instead- so be it. I can take them next week. They are every thursday. Of course- I have another race 7/22 but for that- I have my niece Anna watching them and she will take them for me. WAHOO!

Races Races Races

I am really going crazy with the race count this month. I have a women's only 5k tomorrow night, another one on Sunday that benefits cancer research, another one 7/22 that supports the town of Reading, MA, and finally a 10 miler that I am not sure the benefits go to? Possibly the town of Newburyport? Who knows. I know one thing- I am ready. I ran some hills and distance on Saturday outside-6.05 miles. I did 6.9 miles on the heatwave day Monday outside. Yesterday I ran a 5k in 25 minutes, then did Boot Camp for 30 minutes more. Today I went back inside to the gym and again ran a 5k- this time under 25 minutes, walked for 5 minutes, and then finished my cardio with the high stair master - 11 minutes - equated to a mile there. No time for sit ups - captains chair leg lifts- 3 sets of 15. Ran out of time. I have the race tomorrow night so going to do a ST work out tomorrow. No extra cardio. May go a smidge later too- to get rest. I hear heat is still on our radar around here.

Work - waaaa

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

Well I am back here. Welcomed back with 647 emails. Oh joy! Today for workouts- decided to meet my friends who have started a second Boot Camp up. I have to do things a little different- running alone - I ran a 5k at 5:15am this morning in order to meet them for a 5:45am start. I have to be at work for 7:30am in downtown Boston. I have to be out of there by 6:15am to do that. (Shower, get dressed, and drive in) Well I finished my run - 25 minutes, no one was there until 5:48am. She and I started it right up then - she had to do her cardio AFTER the Strength training stuff we did. We did squats, walking lunges with an overhead weight, bicep curls, leg kick with a reverse lunge, tricep dips, and hammer curls. We did that set rotation twice and 1 minute intervals. Worked out well. They were moving onto to sit ups, but I had to go. I am happy I got an hour work out in, but think I will either have to get there earlier and start before them, or go to work later. I liked the change and with our weather not overly excited going inside at my gym. This past vacation forced me out on the roads with my running which is good considering I have 4 races this month.
Thursday- 5k, Sunday, 5k, 7/22-5k, and finally 7/27 a 10 miler. I ended up running 6.9 miles outside in the sweltering heat yesterday. It took me an hour. Not too bad- under 9 mm so that is ok. Especially since I had to walk a couple of spots. Just drained from the heat. Eating is back on track. Hopefully I can get those 2 lbs off that I gained from vacation.

Scorcher

OK - wow it's hot here in MA! I decided to try and add on to the longer run I did Saturday with my friend- we did 6.05 miles- about a 9 mm pace. She is a smidge slower than me, but that was ok- I wanted to get the endurance built up. She took me on a tough loop with lots of hills. Sunday I basically took off- did walk a smidge, but nothing serious. Today- figured I am back and home lets get back into a routine of things. I had to wait for my husband to get up so I really got a late start. I got out there around 9:45am. It was already hot- guessing 90's? I brought water thankfully. I made the first 3 miles with no trouble and no need to stop. After that though- I did have to stop once about 4 miles- felt tired and so hot. Just fast walked and paced myself with some water. Then kept at it- stopping 2 other times- briefly walking fast and catching my breathing. I ran out of water around 5 miles. I did make it in strong and fast. Took me an hour. Oh well- too hot but I got it done. After that my daughter had her friend come over and we've been in and out of our pool all day since 11am. It's close to 100 degrees for sure- with hardly a breeze. Our pool temp is a nice 85 degrees ... I am reading the Time Travelers Wife, so I go out there- jump in, dry off in sun, read... Love the book. Like I said yesterday- weight was 157. Not happy but not overly concerned. I was just on an 8 day vacation- with two other families who are not overly concerned with eating healthy. Both gals that I was with though made comments on my eating habits. They were impressed at my discipline, and even started to try some of my things- the greek yogurt with fruit, the almonds I would have before exercise. Hey- they both know what to do. they just have to choose to do it. Like I did back in January. Let us continue the fight kids. Hope all are enjoying the remaining day of the long weekend. Back to work for me. Haven't been there in quite a while. WAAAAAAAAA

What a week!

Sunday, July 04, 2010

Missed you all! Had a very nice week on vacation with friends & family. We rented a house on the beach in Humarock, MA. So so nice! We truly had fabulous weather the whole time- a couple nights it rained, but that was it. I managed to stay on track- exercising EVERY day I was away. It was fun to mix up my outdoor running. One day I ran this main street until the end of the town- 4.5 miles. Another I would run on the beach and then loop around- 5miles. I also did one day of my strength training- ran 1.2 miles, did my various sets of lifting, lunges, situps, pushups, and then in between sets would run .40 miles- twice! Felt great. A gal I went to high school lives in the town nearby so she and I met yesterday morning for a nice hilly run - 6.05 miles! I FINALLY took today off. I was wiped from all the beach going, walks, playing, etc with my kids and my friends. I ate smart, once and a while indulging, but mostly staying on track and on point. I weighed in today just now though - 157. That really is not bad considering I drank quite a bit of alcoholic fun beverages- frozen margaritas, cosmos, etc. ITs summer and I was on vacation kids! I also had REGULAR ice cream twice- WITH JIMMIES! MMM MMM! I think it's all in moderation and then you are ok. I may jump on the WII tonight with the kids as my hubby is working and it is the 4th! We saw the fireworks last night, but may tune in later to the ones aired on TV. Toby Keith is the special act. I have to get back to tracking. Did none of that this week- no computer- which I kind of liked the disconnect. Nice to be back too though. I have a race Thurs AND Sunday this coming week. Both are just 5ks. Happy 4th to ALL
