This week was another consistent week and therefore a successful one! Once again down 2 pounds and my new shoes are here and I am so happy they are everything I wanted .
I ordered 2 pairs of trainers from zappos.com, both of them were New Balance because all of the great reviews and recommendations I read for trainers and other Studio Dance shoes for Zumba and like did not offer Wide Widths. That was frustrating but I knew I'd have luck with New Balance. If anyone is interested the model number is WX797v2 and can be found here www.zappos.com/new-balance-wx797v2-b
lack?zfcTest=fcl%3A0 . They are very supportive and have great cushion. I especially like the medial support they put on the forefront of the shoe. I can feel the difference when I do side to side lunges and squats. There is so much more stability and I feel grounded. Before I always just used running shoes for all my workouts because I assumed that was the only way I'd get the most cushion to help protect my knees and everything when working out. But I've found running shoes really are good for just running . Their built to propel you forward and don't do well with a lot of lateral movements like cross-trainers. There not minimal like I thought I would like, but there not to minimal and they don't feel to bulky. There just right!
My running shoes are by Brooks and it was my first time ever trying on Brooks. They fit perfectly! The fit is so right on and they are very plush. While I was doing my shoe research I found that I am a rare underpronator (my feet tend to curve outward when running), and as such I need more cushion and more of a neutral shoe to help it. Reviews for Brooks said that I would need to go up either one whole size or a half size to find my "Brooks shoe" size and I was confused about what size to get. Luckily someone suggested to me to go to www.runningwarehouse.com/ where on product pages for shoes they have a thing called show me how it fits, where you can plug in the size, brand, and model of the current shoe your using and it will compare that fit to the shoe your looking at and suggest a size for you to try. It was very accurate for me. Out of the 2 pairs of Brooks I tried I went with the Glycerin 10( www.zappos.com/brooks-glycerin-10-di
va-pink-anthracite-silver?zfcTest=fcl%3A0 ) because they were actually cute and fit me better then the Brooks Ghosts. I liked how the Ghosts felt, but for some reason I felt pressure on the balls of my feet because of the drop in the padding of the shoe toward the front. I'm like the princess and the pea when it comes to shoes, I'm very picky and any small thing bothers me. Anyway, my search is over and I got back to working out later this week. I even tried my Zumba for my xbox again and it went a lot better then last time I tried it and I know it's because of the trainers. Less traction on the shoes allows me to twist and turn more freely without hurting my feet, ankles, and knees. A commenter on my blog last week suggested that I try a type of band that you can slip onto your workout shoes to better dance on hard surfaces by getting rid of traction. The Dance Socks ( thedancesocks.com/ ) look great, but I didn't want to buy them just yet. In the mean time I cut a pair of old ankle socks and made my own for the in between time. They worked really good. Of course I won't be using them anywhere but my living room though . Maybe I'll use them as a reward for a mini goal .
Just to update on my granola bars I made them in the muffin pan this week for the sake of uniformity and it worked out wonderfully. I just cooked them for a few minutes longer!
I also tried the banana "ice cream" recipe ( recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.asp?recipe=694221 ) that I've seen on my start page a few weeks back and I loved it. The texture really did come out like soft serve. I mixed in some raspberries and a little apricot yogurt and put them into pop molds for a quick treat.
I also joined an 8 week challenge here on Sparkpeople through a sparkteam. It's their version of the Biggest Loser and it's a team challenge.
I'm on the Crimson Rockets. Sounds "out of this world" to me . I'm glad that I found it and was able to get involved in time. I think getting involved and active within the community will help me a lot more this time around. Because there's only so much you can do on your own! That's why I have come to like blogging consistently. I love to hear the feedback and suggestions from everyone here. I truly appreciate it! .
So, this week I will continue to keep up my streaks and get moving some more in my fantabulous shoes . Maybe even try to start running again. I haven't gotten to take the Brooks out for a spin yet!
Just have to keep saying to myself "Get It Gurrl!" Here's to another week .

Down 2 pounds this week and I am still very proud of myself to be losing consistently without my usual exercise regimen. I still get out to walk my dog around the neighborhood and spend some time in the pool stretching and swimming. This month I have also taken up a squat challenge. I figured it was something I can do that doesn't involve me putting to much demand on my foot .
This week I got into the kitchen and made a big batch of chili and I finally made my granola bars! They came out so good I've been treating them more like desserts lol. The house smelled so great with them baking as well. I've been having them with a tablespoon of peanut butter spread on top for a boost of protein or with organic apricot jam I found at the dollar store for a bit more sweetness. The tropical fruit mix I mixed in with it though is sweet enough! Now that I know the basic base for the bars I can mix in whatever I wish really to fit whatever cravings or nutritional needs I want met. Here is the link to the original recipe I used recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.asp? recipe=379140 . I used regular brown sugar instead of splenda. I'm trying to avoid artificial sweeteners. To the mix I added shredded coconut, cinnamon, tropical fruit mix, and I topped it with ground flax seed before baking it. Mainly because I forgot to mix it in , but it worked out great! It made 9 bars with 158 calories each, 3 grams of fat, and 4 grams of fiber without anything extra or artificial in there (Maybe next time I can cut them a bit more uniform!). I wrapped them in wax paper for convenience and it worked out great. Here are some pics, and excuse the piece I took a bite of before I could snap a pic.
And here is a pic of my chili which I have always thought is the best thing I can make. I love my chili! Chock full of veggies and very satisfying. I usually have it with a salad and a wheat tortilla.
This week I have also ordered some shoes after many hours of researching and reading reviews. I never made it to the shoe shop, but I did order 3 pairs of shoes from zappos that should be coming soon for me to try. I am also trying a new brand of shoe. I have always been a New Balance girl, but I thought I would give Brooks a try since everyone raves about their shoes. I ordered the new Ghosts and the Glycerins for running. I shall see which ones I like most.
The third pair is a New Balance pair that I'm to use for cross training and things like zumba. I found that it is hard to find a pair of wide width shoes meant for jazzercise/zumba. There are great reviews for a few pairs I saw, but they don't offer them in wide widths. So I'm going to do my best to keep my eye out for a good dance sneaker with minimal tread. I sure don't want to hurt my knees! I'm just waiting on the shoes to get here so I can get back to working out.
I also have another small victory to report. Yesterday my family and I went to a local crawfish fetsival. Lucky for me I do not like seafood which is ironic because most food from Louisiana has fish this, or shrimp that in the food and my family from both sides come from the deep country out there. So I got to enjoy the atmosphere a whole lot more because I wasn't worried about food. I ate breakfast and a granola bar before we got there and I had a stuffed Louisiana Bread (which was amazing!) and I had 2 beignets. I couldn't resist those!
But it was a victory none the less. I stayed in my calories for the day and got to do a lot of walking. I should have done some dancing to while I was there, but maybe next year!
I will report back on my shoe saga and I am planning on having another great week ahead.

In preparation for welcoming August in a few days I have cleaned and organized a few things in my space. I have cleaned out my closet and reorganized the my clothes as well as the same for my dresser. I let go of a few pieces of clothes that I have had for YEARS, including a favorite sweater duster of mine I remember buying in the 8th grade . I've gotten rid of pants that I honestly don't wear anymore either, but always have kept them in my closet "just in case" I needed them. I got rid of lots of random things too including some old speakers that I will never use again, old school bags, and purses. It feels really cleansing and freeing to get rid of stuff that I don't need. I filled one big donation bag that will be going to Vietnam Veterans of America, I always donate to them. Cleaning out clutter and getting rid of things that I would never think about letting go of before but am okay to let go of now makes me feel as if I've grown since the last time I purged my closet lol. It's like a small victory each time . Today I am even clearing out the refrigerator and eating up random veggies that I've cut but didn't use them all up. It made a nice little veggie/chicken dish. It was made up of Black beans, mixed veggies, italian squash, red bell pepper, sweet corn, a carrots, about 3 oz. of chicken, onion, and garlic clove. Mmm...
I've also organized my vanity and did a small DIY project with my costume jewelry. I was looking at the coolest jewelry displays on Etsy that were like $100+ dollars that I really liked, but surely didn't have the money to spend on them lol. So I re-purposed or "upcycled" some old cork boards by stapling 2 lacy doilies to them and just started hanging earrings on the lace, pushing some post earrings into the cork, and hanging bracelets and necklaces with old hoop earrings. And this is what it looks like!
Clearing out everything helps me to appreciate the things I have and puts me in a place too mentally prepare for starting anew. July hasn't been the best month for me due to my foot issues that kept me from giving 100% into losing. But that's only my judgmental, critical, mean side of me talking. Despite not being able to exercise I have not gained any weight and I've got to play a bit in the kitchen and created some new dishes that I can add into rotation. Including Taco Pasta Salad ( divascancook.com/2013/07/taco-pasta-
salad-recipe.html I use wheat pasta) and my Green's N Eggs!
These are all small steps and victories that have kept me on track and closer to where I want to be. In August I will ease back into an exercise routine and will be mindful and careful with my body as to not hurt myself again and I will continue to not be so hard on myself. Especially when wanting to indulge in foods once in a while. I've learned that from listening to past Spark Radio shows, which I have really come to enjoy! I like listening as I'm cooking and getting ready for the day. Here's to a new month of possibilities!

I had another good week this week and lost 3 pounds. I'm down a total of 10 pounds now since resetting myself a month ago . Which I was surprised by because I haven't been exercising as much as I would have liked because of my foot. Instead of doing nothing at all though, I've started treading water in our above ground pool, stretching, and even a tiny bit of strength exercises . I love stretching in the water! Makes me feel like an ancient yogi lol . It even helps my foot a lot.
I attempted exercising with my bogo find from Payless and they did not work out! They went right back to the store, but unfortunately It only irritated my foot again . So I spent the week looking into shoes and what not and today I went to the mall to go to the lady footlocker to try on different types of shoes with my sister (BunBun2010). I was all excited and ready to go this morning, but it turned out to be embarrassing and frustrating . I checked online to see their inventory and they had larger sizes and wide widths (In workout shoes I'm an 11w). So I was all jazzed to try things out. Turns out in the store they do not carry wide widths at all. All those shoes I saw on their website were not carried in store. I asked the sales person which shoe on there huge wall was Wide Width and she said we don't carry it at all! Not one shoe on my list was I able to try on. All I kept thinking was great, now my feet are to fat to go shopping! lol I found it ridiculous. The store to me wasn't what I thought it would be, it was more of a fashion athletic store for thinner ladies. The store Wasn't really a store that catered to running or sports. It made me feel stupid really thinking I could find something there. And I'm a pretty upbeat person, I hate to speak these words but its true. So I didn't get to try on one shoe the whole day, which was my objective for going to the mall. I did my research online and double checked that they would have what I needed for a reason. For me personally, knowing that I am bigger it makes me much more self conscience about the stores I go into to avoid frustrations and conjuring up negative thoughts about myself. The sale person in the store wasn't the most helpful and she looked at me a bit sideways when I asked for a wide width and that made me upset.
Luckily I found Lane Bryant, one of the few stores I actually feel comfortable in. They were having a sale on clearance items. I got a $80.00 dress for $15.00. Made my day a little brighter .
I know it seems silly to complain over not finding clothes in the same stores as "regular" individuals, but always having to find speciality stores is annoying. In the end though it always works out because they tend only to the ONE demographic. So I'll be heading to a store that caters to runners here in Cali called "A Snails Pace". They do diagnostics and everything to help you find the shoes that work for you. And they carry "Special" sizes! I didn't go there first because it is a bit of a drive away, but now I need to. If that store doesn't help me any, I'll just be back to shopping online .
Hopefully I'll be fitted with my new shoes soon!
P.S.: I posted a recipe this week that I improvised. It's surprisingly good!
