A new year

Saturday, January 03, 2009

Oh groan....The Christmas holls were a total pig-out-fest. I think I stayed in two nights out of ten, ate all round me, sat on the couch for hours watching crap tv. Astonishingly, the weather has been dry here for the past month, so I can't use bad weather as an excuse to not exercise, unfortunately. I've put on 5lbs in 2 weeks, purely from mindless eating. I'm almost looking forward to going back to work on Monday!! Almost...

Right so, it's time to get off my (very comfortable) couch and start exercising every day.

These are my new goals and I'm going to stick to them this time.

160lbs by end January 2009;
154lbs by end February 2009;
148lbs by end March 2009;
146lbs by 11th April 2009 (EASTER);
145lbs by my 40th birthday, 23rd April 2009

Happy new year everyone!!

    Best of luck reaching your goals. I have to say that having been off work for 2 weeks (school holidays and no childcare) I'm looking forward to getting back into the school/work routine. I hope you have recovered from your coughing and spluttering last month.

Coughing and spluttering....

Monday, December 15, 2008

I've been knocked out with a cough and cold for the past week, I'm feeling really miserable and had to take a couple of days off work. Thank goodness for my laptop!!! I'd be totally bored without the internet!

Hopefully, I'll go back to work tomorrow.

The gym is a distant memory, sob.....

    Oh, I'm so sorry your not very well at the moment. We have sore throats and coughs going round our house at the moment. I only went to the gym/swimming twice last week instead of my usual 4. Hope you feel better soon. Remember when you do make it back to the gym to take it easy at first, you will have lost some of the fitness you gained as it takes about 4 times as long to gain fitness as it does to lose it!

Take care

Now try to buy something special--don't spend it on bills like I did. If you had smoked the cigarettes you wouldn't have the money to pay bills. So HAVE FUN emoticon

First day at the gym....

Monday, November 17, 2008

Well, Saturday was much better than I expected. Some of the exercises were difficult. The elliptical nearly killed me - fifteen minutes at different resistances, phew. The sweat!!! I used muscles on Saturday that I never knew I had. My trainer had a program prepared for me - I did 60 mins cardio on various machines (bike, treadmill, rowing, elliptical) and 20 mins using weights. I'm to follow this for the first 3 weeks, then we step it up a notch. Eeeek! Help!!

I was a little sore on Sunday, but not too seized up. It could have been a lot worse!

So, I'm going back again tonight, Monday, for more punishment....

    Oh my gosh, you did GREAT! I think that I may have perished! hee hee And you weren't awfully sore? That is fantastic. You are going to have such amazing success with this, and I am so jealous! I told my hubby that you got a gym membership - he kinda rolled his eyes at me but I told him it would be a WONDERFUL anniversary gift (it is Thurs). We have a small gym like 10 minutes from us. No trainer, but my boss was a personal trainer for years before he got into chiropractic and he said that he would be more than happy to get me started. Not sure I trust him..........

Keep up all the fantastic work and great attitude!!!
hugs, Teenya

    That's what it takes... a good trainer to get you to work harder then you would on your own. I totally believe in a good trainer. I am always pushed to the limits and if I tried on my own I would never work that hard. Keep it up and you will be so glad you did.

    Well done you. Wait for it to become a habit and you will soon feel bad for not doing anything! I must get back to the gym this week, I've let it slide for 2 weeks - NOT good. I look forward to hearing more about it.

Fitness test

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

I joined my local gym last Friday and have been to terrified to go. I signed up for a fitness test at the time and, at 6pm last night, I got a call from one of the instructors asking me to call at 8pm for a fitness test. EEEEEEK!!!! I was absolutely sh*tting myself with nerves, but it went fine:-

My BMI is 28.4 so I'm overweight but not obese (phew). She's going to prepare a fitness program, focussing on cardio exercise to lose the flab. I could only do 2.5 push-ups (yes two-and-a-half!). I was absolutely mortified. She was in stitches laughing at me. I've got no upper body strength at all!!!

I've got great flexibility (my BF was delighted to hear), she said I was even more flexible than herself. BEAM!! (Though I think she was just saying that to be nice to me.)

My lungs are in great shape (thanks to my 9-month smoking quit!).

My blood pressure was a little high so we'll monitor that.

I've to go back on Saturday at 12pm to start the cardio program she's got lined up.

So, I went for a long walk afterwards to clear the cobwebs AND I'M BACK ON TRACK!!! Yippeeeeee! I've started tracking and planning my food again. I brought in my walking gear to work, so that's my lunchbreak taken care of. I'm feeling so much more positive. I've adjusted my goals to make them more realistic.

I weighed myself this morning and I'm down 2.4lbs since yesterday. Don't even ASK me how that happened.... (probably the shock)

    Good for you. You are sounding so positive and that is great. Don't worry too much about the push-ups. Did you have to do full or modified ones. I can only do 1 full one and have just got myself up to being able to do a set of 15 modified ones - it's only taken me 2 years! And, you are flexible! If your trainer says you are more flexible than she is, believe her. It is amazing how many people who are fit aren't very flexible.

Have fun at your next session. Remember it is supposed to be fun so enjoy it.

Take care
Fiona
