Motivated by summer attire!

Thursday, March 05, 2009

Despite the cold weather and recent snow storm, I feel like summer is right around the corner! Thinking about summer clothes - shorts, tank tops, & bathing suits - has really been keeping me motivated to stay on track!

Last weekend I bought a new bathing suit! I tried it on as soon as I got home, and instead of feeling depressed about having weight to lose, it gave me instant energy and the motivation to get active!

Now I know how to get motivated on those days I just don't feel like going to the gym!

My husband has decided to try Sparkpeople!!!!! I'm very excited for him and am looking forward to getting fit together!

I had been nagging him for about a month now to get on SP, so when he asked me two days ago to help him get started I was all smiles!

I think being in this together will increase my chances of success and bring us even closer together!

Don't let the scale spark a bad mood!

Monday, February 23, 2009

I'm fairly new to SP, and have had really good weigh-ins for my first 3 weeks - losing more than my goal of 2 lbs per week. My fourth week, not feeling as if I slacked in any way in the week leading up to my weigh-in day, I hadn't even lost a pound.

I know that in the past this would have upset me - most likely even set me back. I would have declared a "cheat day" and been in a bad mood for at least the next few days, making it difficult to be active or exercise. I also probably would have boycotted SP out of guilt!

This was not the case at all! I feel good about myself because I didn't let the scale determine my mood like I always have in the past. Not reaching my goal of 2 lbs per week didn't throw me off. I accepted the number on the scale, kept my mood up, and continued to try! I'm okay with whatever the scale happens to say on future weigh-in days, and feeling okay about it gives me confidence to continue towards my goals!

You've just learned one of the biggest spark secrets: that scale is just an inanimate object--not the be-all and end-all of who we are and how we are doing. Reality is what you do day after day with food and exercise--that's how you develop confidence and success. Thanks for sharing this awesome lesson!

  good for you
my scale has been stuck on 207 for awhile
but i keep on exercising and watching calories
the main thing is that we are not gainning
it seems like the first 5 or so is the easest to lose
and then it gets harder but we can do this
keep on sparking
