A difficult week....

Friday, February 01, 2008

Let me start with saying, I am not defeated, I just need to gather the troops and prepare for another attack.

As I said in my previous blog, I injured my knee early this week and am not fully able to exercise, which kinda made me feel like I hit a roadblock. Then I got a head cold which has zapped all my energy, and now last night my dad was admitted to the hospital again with complications from pneumonia and COPD.

But with all this going down, I am still trying to watch what I eat, though I at dinner at 8pm last night because I was sitting with my dad in the ER.

Tomorrow I will get up and if it is not poring down rain, will take my dog for a walk and head over to my bi-weekly weight loss support group meeting. We will be making vision boards. I just hope I don't give them all my cold :D.

Come on, Bring it, i can take it!

The dog is cute, just adorable!
Hang in there.
If you con't eat till late at night due to everything going on, just make sure to eat light.
Good luck with the knee & you're dad. But don't give up. If you feel you need to exercise do some that you can do sitting in a chair. Any is better than none.
You'll do fine!

Feeling a bit down...but trying to stay positive

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

So, I was working out on Saturday with my 2 nieces who are 3 and 5. We had a lot of fun doing one of my dance-aerobic workouts on DVD. I felt really good. My oldest niece (5) suggested that we eat health y by going to Fresh cold I refuse! So I took my nieces and sister-in-law out for Dinner at Fresh Choice. When I got home, I changed and went to a wine-tasting event for single people...I had a great time and met lots of nice people. However, as the night went on my left knee began to ache, and by the time I got home, I was limping into the house. Sunday I could not walk on the leg at all so I stayed in bed watching movies and used the R.I.C.E method on my knee (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation). By Sunday night my knee was feeling better but not close to 100%. The next morning I took myself to the Minor Injury Clinic at Kaiser. An X-ray was taken and I spent 5 hours at the clinic. The good news is nothing is broken, however I did manage to strain the ligaments in the knee. The exercise for 2 weeks (I immediately felt the 7 pounds I lost coming right back on). So, now I am on crutches to help keep all the weigh off my knee, and I am putting a list together of things I can do while I wait to be able to fully exercise again. Here is my list:

1) Buy better workout shoes with better support and cushion
2) Really watch what I eat- keep the calories under 1500
3) Upper body --I can still do a upper body workout and crunches.
4) Lower Body workout consisting : Leg lifts, leg pikes, thrusters...and any other exercise I can think of that doesn't required use of my knees
5) Think positive and be patient!

Any other suggestions out there?

You're on the right track, keeping your chin up and figuring out what you can do in the meantime will surely help keep those 7 pounds at bay. When you do get back to full scale exercising, I have found the elliptical a HUGE help whenever my knees are threatening to give out. It's no impact so it gives them a chance to heal while still providing a great workout.

So, last night I drove to Fremont to attend a Zumba class at 24 Hour Fitness with some of the ladies from my weight loss support group. I left with plenty of time to get there, but I had directions to the wrong one. SO, I got on my cell and called 411 for the number to the one I was trying to get to, I called and all I got was ringing. So I called the other 24 Hour Fitness and got the correct number. The gentleman that answered the phone was so kind and walked me through how to get to his location (I panic when I am lost and I am sure he could hear it in my voice). So, I made it in time for the class.

The class was great, it was really about working out and having fun at the same time. The class involved movements from Latin dances....Mamba, Rumba, Salsa, etc. , the warm down consisted of Tango and hula. A great class, everyone was smiling and laughing, and no one except the instructor had any of the moves down, but boy did you sweat! I will definitely do the class again!

Zumba is a new class as my gym and I was wondering what exactly it was. Only problem is the class is during the busiest time of the gym, which I despise!!! Guess I'll have to catch it on a holiday or something! Maybe!
