I live in Joplin, MO. Which means: when a tornado warning is issued at 1:30 in the morning, we through on shoes, get the kids up and throughing on their clothes, and run to my neighbors across the street. My neighbors have a basement (we don't) and they leave the door open for us. We hung out with them in their basement until the storm had passed. Nothing bad happened--just lots of rain, thunder, and lightening. But, my kids were shivering--either from cold, exhaustion, or fear. I stayed calm and tried to distract them, but we live in Joplin.
We will always be cautious of storms, ever since May 22, 2011. We live about 5 blocks north of the damage zone from that tornado. Prior to that date, we talked about sheltering in the bathroom, but we never did. Now, we go to my neighbor's basement. We're all a little tired and I let me kids sleep in (I drove them to school). We're all fine and no tornadoes came from the storm, but I still don't regret waking the kids up. Because I live in Joplin.

Dd's dance class performed in a dance competition in Tulsa yesterday. They danced to 9 to 5. They did a great job and received High Gold and won 1st Place High Point in their age group. This is one proud dance mom!

Last May, mil had a heart attack followed by quadruple bypass surgery. She had been sick for at least 8 months, but refused to go to the doctor. She had a very difficult recovery, including bil (her son) stealing from her. She lives 8 hours from us, so there's not much we can do. In addition, she had an opportunity to move near us (10 min away) about 7 years ago and ran back to the son who eventually stole from her.
In the last few weeks, she has expressed concern about being short of breath, but has refused to call a doctor. I called her yesterday and she told me she had called the Dr., but he wasn't there. The nurse/receptionist told her to go to the ER. She hadn't yet because she didn't have a way to get there (she lives in a very rural area and doesn't have a car, bil doesn't have a phone, her so called best friend said she couldn't take her, and she couldn't reach several other people who might have been of help). I told her to call an ambulance. She was about as concerned about the cost as with the amount of energy it would take her to get ready to go. She must have found a way to reach bil, because he called from the hospital to say her vitals were fine and they were checking on other things. They released her and said it wasn't her heart, but was probably the hernia. I understand why she doesn't want to have the hernia surgery, but then you're going to have to figure out how to live with the shortness of breath.

Tuesdays are usually my easy day, my catch up day. I only have one class and I can get caught up on a bunch of things for the week. I knew I had a meeting from 3:30-4:30 today, but that wasn't a big deal. Still plenty of time to get stuff done.
I came in today to find my parking spot moved. My parking spot was originally moved about a year ago to deal with construction of a new heating and cooling system. The construction is done and we (me and two other department heads) were promised we'd be moved back to the spots in front of the chiller. No, they moved us to a random spot on the hill. No big deal for me, but it took a while to figure out which was my spot and it's a source of mild annoyance.
Then, one of my adjuncts gave me notice that he cannot teach after this semester. That means I have to cancel his summer class and find someone to teach his fall class. I can deal with this later, so again, no big deal.
Then, I get an email right before 9 (BTW, I've been here since 7:30) apologizing for not getting this out earlier, but I have to go to a meeting from 1:30-3:30 today. So, now I am really annoyed. Like I don't have anything better to do for a total of 3 hours today, but go to meetings. This is the last full week of classes, but my time is expendable.
Sorry for the rant, but I am not happy.
