Stuck!

I've been stuck on a set of numbers for a while now and can't seem to get the last couple pounds off to get over the hump.

I got to this point before by only doing cardio and this time I'm lifting weights and doing cardio. I feel like this will be better for long-term keeping the weight off.

I need a boost! Or an idea to mix things up to get over the hump!!

    Thanks for the comments everyone. I am increasing weights with lifting weights. I would have to say I'm not really increasing intensity on the cardio which is probably my problem.

    1] How are you doing cardio. Are you increasing intensity every session?
2] What weights are you lifting (are you increasing weight rather than reps?)

As you lose weight you have to work harder. It's too easy to cruise.

    I've been stuck for a long time now. I have just decided that this year is when I will reach my goal weight. It is slow but I am doing everything by the "booK" and I am making some progress. It's two steps forward and one step back but it is still progress! WE CAN DO THIS!

  Have you tried adding a day of yoga into your exercise schedule? Although it doesn't burn many calories, you'll get a good workout and it can help tone areas where cardio and weights won't reach and will lengthen your muscles as well. May be a good change to help get over the hump! emoticon

Going to the gym again....

Well I signed up for 3 months at the gym to get back in shape for my best friends wedding at the end of August. I've been good at going but need to work on eating. It seems my body thinks I am always starving and it doesn't help being bored at work. I always am munching on something to keep myself busy. I know this part is a mindset so I think being dedicated to the gym will help deter me from eating so much junk :)

I have done 2 walks in the past few months. I did the MS Walk which was about 5 miles and then walked 11 miles in the Relay for Life. My goal is to do the Breast Cancer 3-Day next year!

I have ONE WEEK left of the "Shake Your Shape" challenge that some ladies I work with and I joined. I've lost about 15 pounds since starting that 11 weeks ago and about 10 since joining Spark People! If I place in the top 3 I win money so I better be extra good this week!!!

  


Had to quit the gym! HELP!

So, because of money reasons I had to quit the gym. I have been trying to get out walking/jogging outside and have been doing ok at it. I find it quite a bit harder to walk/jog outside than do the ellipticals or treadmills in the gym. My major problem is shin splints & side aches. I thought I was getting in shape but I guess not! :) Im worried what I will do when there is bad weather for a few days in a row and I cant get outside!

    With the shin splints and side aches, I find strength training really helps. Stretching too of course! But for me, maybe I'm just naturally weak or something, hehe, but keeping those leg muscles strong is key to avoiding hurting myself when I run.

Is there a school track nearby? That can be much kinder on your knees than sidewalks. Asphalt is also better than sidewalks.

Another option is a cheap exercise bike (new one might be $100 but much cheaper on Craigslist) or exercise DVDs. You can even find some freebies and samples on Youtube so you can try it out and see what you like! I think the Self Bikini ones are pretty fast and tough :)
