How the Earthquake shook some sense into me!

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Yesterday I was in DC, at my desk, when the Earthquake hit. Needless to say we got evacuated and were told to leave the city. I live 50 miles south of the city, the dilemma was getting to my ride to get out. She was in VA, 10ish miles away.

So, I attempted the metro - what a joke. The lines, the waits, the slow trains. I said I will walk to the furthest metro station to VA - so I started my mile walk. I made it, quite quickly I might add (in a suit & in dress shoes). Then I got to that metro station - it was a comedy club in itself, there was a line to get in the metro!

I and a friend of mine decided we would brave the walk. 4 more miles, 5 miles in all - I was scared. Seeing as I have not really been sticking to all the things I have been taught lately.

The walk was hard, it hurt - I climbed stairs, crossed 2 bridges, ran across the freeway BUT I made it. I can do 5 miles, in under an hour, in a suit. Thus realizing I can do 5 miles, in running clothes and lose this weight. What an eye opener!

Day 32 Question:

If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

Cyprus, no brainer for me. It's my dream vacation, and I have wanted to go there forever. The food, the people, the sites - it's just breath taking. They went for a school trip when I was in College, and I had no where near enough money to even think about it - but I remember looking at all the pictures and dreaming of going to a place that beautiful.

One day I will get there, and I will eat all the delicious food and laugh with all the wonderful people. :)

Technically I can say I've been to Cyprus, but it was only on a plane and we didn't get off the plane. But it did look like an interesting place to visit from the air when we were landing.

Hope you get there someday!

Motivation - 365 Q to R: 31

Day 31 Question:

What motivated you today?

Honestly, new suits. I went shopping yesterday, and I am fitting in old sizes. It's nice to know that I can try on different things and not look like I am squeezing into something like a tube of toothpaste. This morning I felt like my new skirt suit really flattered me, and I wasn't embarassed to be in it. It's nice to feel more motivated because you become more and more comfortable in your own skin.

Day 30 Question:

What is your hairstyle?

Currently my long bangs are braided back into a ponytail. But I have a shoulder length bob that is shorter & stacked in the back. Nothing too crazy.

Day 29 Question:

When was the last time you had an inspiring conversation?

Definitely last night during Bible Study. It's always nice to have a young adult bible study, with people in their 20s that understand what the scripture is actually saying. Father B last night did his usual puns about Star Wars, and a great Sean Connery voice - but I remember exact what the story was about.

It reminded me that when times got rough, all you have to do is turn to the Lord and he will guide you where you are supposed to go. It doesn't matter how big the challenge is - if David can slay Goliath, then every day giants should be easy to tackle.

It is so great that you had a good session. It is especially important that you can take what you learn and apply it to your every day life situations.
